i've heard that oracle 11g supports SPARQL queries, but i can't find any examples of actual code
is it real SPARQL support or just "SPARQL-like"?

[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor... any ideas? I can give more info: I try to connect to oracle DB on a secure server using ODBC
???
anyone alive here?
enjoytheday
how much shared memory we need to setup for oracle database server? If I have 6GB RAM
DiscordianUK
Sum up the memory you need for each instance
and that's it + say 10%
Clueless2
hello people!
anyone's around
Dormir
possibly
Clueless2
thanks
Dormir
ask your question. someone will answer if they can help
Clueless2
anyway ..i'm learning SQL with Oracle version
this is what I am getting
When inserting or updating data, the following error is returned:
ORA-00001: unique constraint violated (<schema>.<constraint>)
i googled but I don't have a CLUE on how to fix it
can someone help me ? At least I tried to search for the solution before I finally decided to come up here

Dormir
you're inserting the same data into a column with a unique constraint
Clueless2
sorry Dormir ... i'm new to sql ..
i don't know how to fix it.. i'm just following the book on how to Insert New Rows .. unfortunately I didn't expect this kind of error.
let me check the data again to see if it's the same one
Dormir
so, if you do insert into emp (empno, ename) values (1,'Jones');
then do insert into emp (empno, ename) values (1,'Smith');
and there's a unique constraint on empno, you'll get an error because you can only have one row where empno=1
Clueless2
k
hmmm..
sorry Dormire .. i'm still clueless
i'm not understanding at all.
the sample scripts were from school .
i just don't understand it
corpsicle
is srvctl for RAC control and crsctl for clusterware control ?
kiuma
hello, I need a union select and I need to define a parameter so that I can do something like (select col1, from tb1 where id = %VAR1%) union all (select col1, from tb2 where id = %VAR1%)
how can I define var1 ?
more precisely it should be:
(select col1, from tb1 where id in %VAR1%) union all (select col1, from tb2 where id in %VAR1%)
KeiKurono
hi
can you please suggest me a orcale<->postgres middleware for replication?
kiuma
does anybody have an answer for me ?
KeiKurono
can you please suggest me a postgres to oracle middleware for replication?
kiuma
let me remember
http://www.enhydra.org/tech/octopus/index.html
KeiKurono
for me?
vmnew
Got Oracle 10G installed on an RHEL 4.8 IBM X3650 server. Go a matching X3650 server that I want to make an exact copy from my original. When using 'dd', can I specify partitions and not drives (ie, /dev/sda1 and not /dev/sda) and do I have to create those partitions before hand?
I want to dd everything except my Oracle data files, for now.
KeiKurono
kiuma: thanks for the link
kiuma
np
but I'm getting mad with parametric select, because I 've no write access to the db so that I cannot create a procedure
hali
vmnew: using dump or cpio is probably better (and a lot quicker)
vmnew
thanks, cpio it is :)
KeiKurono
kiuma: i guess you have to demand write access
kiuma
in a bank ? LOL
so there is no possibility to have a select like "select * from foo where id in :par1" without a user/program interaction, isn't it ?
maybe I've found the barbatrick
dsdel
just even had an oracle 9i database with sga_max_size 40MB....
KeiKurono
lol the barbatrick
also called barbatrucco

kiuma
KeiKurono, are u italian ?
KeiKurono
kiuma: yep
kiuma
hehe
me2
dsdel
i hope you both didn't vote for berlusconi :D
KeiKurono
not me
dsdel
\o/
kiuma
well currently there is no choice, they are all the same, I'd like to be possible to vote none of the above
to send them all home
dsdel
there is no choice between someone who has got the biggest mind making machines in italia and who makes the laws that they suit him and his capitalism concerns than other? :D
there is nether a choice between good and bad. but very very bad and bad :D
KeiKurono
uhmm.. who is the first dude?
i'm not really into politics :/
dsdel
KeiKurono: berlusconi :D
KeiKurono
i mean "the biggest mind"
dsdel
he is the biggest media mogul in italia - and has released laws that the crimes done by him can't touch him / he can't get sued for them
'biggest mind making machien' :)
but we're getting bit offtopic hehe
KeiKurono
ah i thought you were comparing berlusconi to another politician
nevermind
soo if you could please suggest me a replication middleware for postgres to oracle..

corpsicle
any rac masters available ?
im curious why srvctl status service -c *servicename* doesnt return _anything_
sorry -d of course
same question
usn_work
corpsicle, what do you use as "servicename"?
corpsicle
the servicename stated in tnsnames.ora
usn_work
uh
corpsicle
yes ?
what seems to be happening is that it cant startup the listener
maybe i should just use netca to reconfig the listeners
usn_work
eh
after -d there comes the Db name
corpsicle
db name and servicename are the same
is that bad ?
sh*t, the targets.xml file has the wrong node names
usn_work
corpsicle, the syntax is "srvctl status service -d *dbname* -s *servicename*"
corpsicle
oh
i got this second hand from another guy here
usn_work
AND SERVICENAME has nothing to do with TNS service names
KeiKurono
can heterogenous services can be used to implement a replication from a postgres db (master) to a oracle slave?
usn_work
it means a cluster service
j`ey
Hi guys!
http://pastebin.com/NvHQF2Sr
corpsicle
usn_work: are you saying tnsnames is irrelevant for clusterware/rac config ?
usn_work
yes
corpsicle
wow
j`ey
I have this select statement, and I want to add a COUNT, so that it counts all rows with these distinct values
usn_work
you can have a RAC perfectly without a listener at all
it will not work for a client of course, but it will work for itself
all you can manage with crs_* and srvctl is the OCR
nothing else matters
corpsicle
but i need a listener to be able to connect to it =P
and when i try to start the nodeapps it complains that the listener cant be found
usn_work
try crs_stat -t -v to see all registered cluster services
corpsicle
yea
there are listeners there
usn_work
yes
corpsicle
but those are not listeners in the normal oracle sense then ?
they are clusterware listeners ... I DONT GET IT
(Action) cries
i even read a book on rac, and i still feel that i know absolutely nothing
usn_work: crs_* is clusterware and srvctl is RAC tools right ?
KeiKurono
can heterogenous services can be used to implement a replication from a postgres db (master) to a oracle slave?
or there is a better way
or am i in ignore
Froolap
what is ignore?
KeiKurono
nvm lol i was aking if i was ignored
usn_work
corpsicle, the difference between RAC and clusterware is subtle
I'd say the cluster is a RAC as soon as a DB is invlolved
under this assumption, your statement was wrong: crs_* and srvctl both work without a DB
KeiKurono
Can the Heterogeneous Services for Oracle 8.1.7 be able to connect to a remote PostGres Database ?
usn_work
KeiKurono, patience. If somebody knows, he/she will answer. You don't sped up by reposting your question. Just annoying people
KeiKurono
ok
usn_work
corpsicle, maybe you want to start from the beginning: What do you want to do? What do you try? What does not work?
corpsicle
usn_work: well, like two years ago you helped me get this RAC up and running =P
we tested our application against it and everything was fine
now we have to do some regression testing because of new jdbc with 11g
and during these two years, there has been a change of both nodenames and ip addresses on these two machines running the rac
so everything is a mess
usn_work
oh, I believe
corpsicle
i wasnt even involved in the testing this time until they noticed that things werent behaving in the way they were supposed to during failovers
so now i was presented the task to clean the mess up
usn_work
hehe
congratulations
corpsicle
i wonder if it wouldnt be faster just to try and make a clean installation of rac
then again i wouldnt mind learning these things properly
usn_work
hehe, maybe, this came into my mind, too
But if you want to clean up, you should check some corners:
- listener.ora's
- remote_listener and local_listener parameters
- VIP configuration in OCR
Did the interconnect IP change too?
corpsicle
no
the interconnect is the same
usn_work
a plus
corpsicle
and i changed the VIP addresses with srvctl modify nodeapps
usn_work
ok
the parameters?
the listeners?
corpsicle
are those parameters in listener.ora ?
usn_work
no
corpsicle
then i dont know what parameters you mean
usn_work
they are DB parameters
show parameter listen;
they can contain a TNS names entry, or a tns connect specifier with lots of brackets (()))
corpsicle
local_listener has the tns connect specifier
remote_listener is a tns names entry
the connect specifier has the correct IP
im starting to think its trying to start a listener that isnt actally required
Dormir
KeiKurono: I don't know if there's a driver for HS to connect to a Postgres DB. If there is, you should be able to
might be easier to write external code to do the ETL for you
KeiKurono
oh, i see
i was asking to found a middleware to do that.. but i fail
pcb-dennis
pcb-dennis: hey, i had to move my automatic disk-backup from FRA to a certain PATH, now rman writes the backups directly to the given folder, but it would be great if it would write it to Subfolders like in FRA (with date, e.g. G:\BACKUPSET\2010-03-10). Is that possible?
hali
no
pcb-dennis
hehe ok! short and clear answer, thx
Dormir
pcb-dennis: you can write a shell script to do that.
had one that would change the format string to reflect the day of the week

does anybody here had once to work with Oracle and C?? I need to make a program that connects to a Oracle DB and issue a bunch of updates...in C, should I use the OCI lib, righ?
MaL0_
eoliva, it haves to be on c ?
you have perl, ruby, python, java, with lots of libs to do it on a simple way
eoliva
MaL0, I work with python...and I made a program in 5 minutes with it....but I need it to be in C...cuz the processing and parsing will be huge...
MaL0_
ok

anyone can help me please, thank you in advanced.
steelnwool
hello.
my OEM for 10g just comes up with a blank page. Its an inherited environment so I've no idea how it got screwed up or if it was always like this.
looked in some logs, but not sure which ones are most relavant. i think java is bi**hing about something...

now that sun has been bought by oracle... is sun hardware on topic in this channel?
