is anyone here familiar with any of Oracle's major Business-Accounting Software? and if so - does any of it commonly include a "Credit Memo" feature for refunds/returns etc?
I want to argue in a paper that "'Credit Memo' is a common and recognizable feature in most business software" ..
TomJ
what permission do I need to give access to v$session?
i have a user who gets table or view does not exist
zasz
probably select_catalogue_role
TomJ
ah just this was ok: grant select on v_$session to ..

thanks

hi .. my typical imp syntax is " imp dbuser/dbpass file=exp_dbid_20100205.dmp full=y " -- is there anything extra I can give in there to speed up the import process ?
RJarett
dont use imp anymore
in 10g and higher use expdp and impdp
its much faster
you can give it a buffer=999999 thats about it
admin0
RJarett, what is direct=true ?
can that also be used ?
thanks RJarett
(Action) passes pizza and beer to RJarett
RJarett
yeah direct can be used. but it depends on the data typ eif itll help
also, if you can save all index creation for after, and you parallelize the crap out of it, it will help too
RuslanPopov
ppl, wtf http://dpaste.com/156451/ ???
[oracle@turanga:~]$ which lsnrctl
/opt/oracle/102g/bin/lsnrctl

mator
RuslanPopov, whats wrong with it?
RuslanPopov
what oracle does when it exceed the memory limit?
mator, how to tell to listener where to search its listener.ora?
mator
RuslanPopov, $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/
RuslanPopov, or use TNS_ADMIN environment variable
RuslanPopov
mator, I know about it but as you can see it doesn't work and I don't understand shy
I have no TNS_ADMIN exported
mator
i don't see what is your problems, please try to describe it first
RuslanPopov
I've trying to setup listener for newly installed oracle 10. I have istalled the 9i already on this computer. when I run lsnrctl status (all env variables are setted to ora10) I see the http://dpaste.com/156451/
usn_work
No prompt any more?
RuslanPopov
http://dpaste.com/156484/ - megafull log
mator
RuslanPopov, this is a statement, what is the question?
RuslanPopov
why ora10's lsnrctl uses ora9's config?
why does
mator
RuslanPopov, because you have started ora9 listener before or never tried to start ora10 listener
RuslanPopov
hmm
how can I start ora10's listener so?
lsnrctl start LISTENER_ALPHA helps
mator
can someone help me with english please? :)
Trengo
mator we can try :)
mator
thanks, asking on the #solaris now :)
RuslanPopov
If I have 9 and 10, do I need to have two several listeners?
http://dpaste.com/156510/ - why does tnsping see the alpha but sqlplus doesn't?
(Action) forget all oracle basic for the last two years
mator
RuslanPopov, post "lsnrctl services"
RuslanPopov
http://dpaste.com/156516/
mator
RuslanPopov, i don't see alpha
as registered
and why you need 2 listeners?
RuslanPopov
I don't know
I just think that ora 10 has to have its own

mator
I think there's no point to have multiple listeners, but you can find a reason for this on google 'oracle multiple listeners'...
RuslanPopov, so back to topic, why your alpha db doesn't registered with listener? or it does now?
RuslanPopov
as you can see, I create the second listener with name LISTENER_ALPHA (using ora10's netca)
but I don't understand how to tell my ora10's sqlplus to use this LISTENER_ALPHA by default
mator
RuslanPopov, listener name is not the same as database registered with listener, so your alpha listener service should appear in "lsnrctl services" output
RuslanPopov, check logs, register your database to any of your listeners, then it will be possible to connect from sqlplus
RuslanPopov
I hav e registered the DB at second listener
just check the second lsnrctl status at last url
I've solved this problem
RJarett
any netapp users where w/ 10g?
hali
yep
RJarett
any issues, esp with locking or high io rates?
hali
none
RJarett
well i guess i should ask, nfs or fcp?
hali
nfs
RJarett
how much are you pushing through it at your peak time?
hali
on 10g, not sure... think it was fairly low..
RJarett
ok
hali
200Mb/sec perhaps
RJarett
I could easily surpass 50k iops
hali
with 11g and direct nfs i get a lot more
RJarett
my 11g upgrade is a while off
are you using asm on top of nfs?
hali
as direct NFS has multipath support (can use nics on different subnets to establish multiple tcp sessions)
no
i tried it for a while
it's a requirement to run RAC on SE
we had a box like that for about 3 months then it moved to iSCSI in an attempt to improve performance
RJarett
im trying to figure out how to best do a purchase. if i didnt need a nexus and kept with 10gige switches it would save me a ton of money and configuration
hali
ditch nexus and go 4900M?
RJarett
or a non cisco 10gige switch but the 4900m would do all i need
ill still have my brocade so i could do FCP to the netapp until i upgrade to 11g
id just prefer to ditch the 4 fiber HBAs in the system
hali
equalogic offer 10gig SSD over iscsi now
worht considering
RJarett
equallogic is ass though :P
doesnt help when their backplane speed is much lower than the interface speed
RuslanPopov
plsql, how to get the name of current user?
RJarett
im looking at a netapp 3140 w/ 256gb PAMII module, or compellent w/ a tray of SSD 146gb disks, tray of fiber, and tray of sata
RuslanPopov
select user into username from dual;
RJarett
RuslanPopov: use syscontext and current_user option, or just say USER
depends what you want to use the information for
plus if you do stuff like proxying other users you need to take that into account. since who you see may not be who the user is acting as
RuslanPopov
RJarett, just to put current user name in plsql code
for instance, when create new schedule job

Hello, I am experiencing an error while trying to use the Configuration Assistant. The error specifies the following message: "Not a ZIP file (END header not found)".
Does anybody know of a log file I could look into, or what ZIP files I should obtain to replace the old corrupt ones with?
RuslanPopov
ppl, if I have an non-autoextensible datafile, can I turn it into autoextensible mode?
RJarett
yes
but make sure you set a max size to it
hali
cool, according to symantecs netbackup 7 dedupe calculator they owe me about 40k ... they say i can save about 80k a year by upgrading in tape costs, but i only spend 40k a year on tapes :)
RuslanPopov
RJarett, how?
RJarett
RuslanPopov: www.google.com
RuslanPopov
alter 'what'?
RJarett
hali: puredisk is such crap
RuslanPopov
alter database?
mns-kesem
does anybody know of any other channel on this server or another that may be able to help me with my question?
RJarett
datafile
hali
i use puredisk for a few things
apparently basicdisk has dedupe in 7
RJarett
ill stick with my datadomains
dsdel
i've never met a backup software which shot more databases than symantec :D
RJarett
mns-kesem: which config assistant? dbca?
mns-kesem
Hold on a second, I'll give you the name of the executable.
RJarett
dbca specifically tells you where its putting logs
RuslanPopov
RJarett, found, thank you and oracle docs :)
RJarett
RuslanPopov: be careful of max filesizes based on your db block size. also its a good way to run out of diskspace if you dont monitor it
mns-kesem
yes, it is dbca
RuslanPopov
I know :)
mns-kesem
I am running it from installation though
Dormir
adsklnewm{P
RJarett
mns-kesem: dont use the general or template DBs then. try a custom one with basic settings
hey Dormir
Dormir
hey
mns-kesem
Thanks, RJarett.
Problem solved
RJarett
he'll be back
"how do i start this"
dagun
is it possible to run multiple ASM instances on one host from different oracle homes?
RJarett
not recommened. +ASM is really supposed to control them all
dagun
hmm, then I should have separate home for ASM
RJarett
why?
hali
one asm instance should generally be enough
RJarett
what are you trying to accomplish?
dagun
but i wanna separate two oracle home totally
homes*
RJarett
if they are the same version, why?
dagun
that's the point
if i want to upgrade one database then the other one is untouched
Dormir
database or ASM?
RJarett
then you make a new home. and keep ASM how it is
hali
asm will work with lower versions
dagun
ok fine. i think you are rigth guys. thanks! :)
RJarett
Im not fond of ASM anyway.
Not many cases were its beneficial over OS storage
dagun
but still ... if i want to upgrade oracle home where from ASM runs then i have to shut it down and this means that both database are going down. even the one which runs from the other oracle home
RJarett
eh sh*t happens
dagun
i think i should have separate home for ASM ... but ok for now. i'll try to sort it out tomorrow. it's late already. bye
RJarett
dont use ASM
still need to shutdown ASM to upgrade it anyway
where you install its software doesnt really matter. and thats all the home is
dagun
ASM works with lower/higher oracle versions
i don't have to upgrade it
RJarett
if you have home_asm home_db1 home_db2 you will still gave asm using either software from one of the 2
dagun
i can keep it running if it runs from different home
RJarett
you can keep it running if it was in a o_h of 10.2 and you upgraded your db to 11
o_h of 10.2 doesnt magically disappear when you install 11 or upgrade your DBs to 11
Dormir
I think he's trying to patch one asm home, then swing the disks over to it
but, you'll still have to bring down everything when you do the swing. you save some time by doing the patch beforehand, but hard to say how much
MaL0-
does sombody knows to use data-source-class="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionCacheImpl" its a good idea ?
the source is a oas 10.1.3.3
LFC_fan
OK I know this is odd, but I was wondering how to mimic proper terminal behaviour with sqlpus
I mean using top and down keys
to refer to history of queries
Using in Linux btw
mator
LFC_fan, sqlplus doesn't support command-line editing and history as you like it in bash
LFC_fan
Oh
mator
though you can still edit last command with 'ed' command
LFC_fan
I am quite used to it so
mator
LFC_fan, use another sqlplus, like gqlplus
LFC_fan
Hmm
mator
or rlwrap
hali
LFC_fan: sqlplus will invoke $EDITOR, so set it to whatever you want (like vim)
and yes, use sqlplus
with rlwrpa
LFC_fan
Hmm

Hello
sytse
hmmm, am I right that TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE stores time in UTC, while TIMESTAMP stores time in.. the local time zone?
boingolov
we are about to move some schemas from one database server to another. dbserver1 is the dest, dbserver2 is the source . currently there are external entities pointing to dbserver2 that will need to reference dbserver1 . I can do some forwarding tricks so that external IP and port changes are transparent (i.e., nat forwarding is pointed to new location), and I've managed to configure a listener on a separate port. but ultimat
ely what I'd want is the oracle_sid to be aliased, so that there will be minimal disruption of services with no change required on the remote end . is this possible?
basically, what I want is two listeners on two different ports answering to two different SID's but in reality both are going to the same database
the two listeners on two different ports is easy enough
it's two sid's pointing to the same spot that's troubling me
RJarett
not gunna happen
totally against how oracle works
