Hello
Anyone knows if it's useful to specify TRANSFORM=SEGMENT_ATTRIBUTES:n when importing table data?
Well, err
Metadata, even
OK, that will be a question for later, I need sleep
Have fun

i've been struggling over this for the whole day :((
i found using count
but doesn't seem to work for me
for some reason..
Rudemeister
what reason

glaksmono
SELECT u.id as Photo, p.id as Publisher, COUNT(p.tags) FROM users u, photos p WHERE u.id = p.publisher_id;
is error
the reason is
SQL Error: ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected - got LAKSMONO.TAG_TYPE
00932. 00000 - "inconsistent datatypes: expected %s got %s"
Rudemeister
glaksmono: try this: http://pastebin.com/H2KiDcyL
glaksmono
Rudemeister: i don't understand the DECLARE part
what does it mean?
is it a function?
Rudemeister
although I am absolutely not at home, in plsql and varray stuff:P
glaksmono: http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14261/collections.htm#BABHFIGG
glaksmono
how do you even run it?
i run it but i don't get anything
that's because TYPE NumList IS TABLE OF NUMBER;
Rudemeister
ok

glaksmono
there's no PSQL stuff there
i'm trying to count
and aggregate
Rudemeister
what is the error
glaksmono
what does this mean?
SQL Error: ORA-01747: invalid user.table.column, table.column, or column specification
SELECT u.id, p.id, COUNT(t.*) FROM users u, photos p, TABLE(p.tags) t WHERE u.id = p.publisher_id GROUP BY u.id, p.id;
i'm trying to count the VARRAY

hi ... why my timestamp will be changed when i give it to a function as parameter
?
the parameter I use when calling the function: to_timestamp('23-02-2010 22:00:00.000', 'DD-MM-YYYY HH24:MI:SS.FF3') .. an inside the function: 23-02-2010 22:59:59.999 ... strange .. or is that related to timezone calculationg .. but then, why it's .999 ?
vmnew
using oracle 7 and getting "Next extent will fail for sobe objects" on my monitoring system referring to a certain tablespace. For that TS max extents is 200 and it's currently at 5. How can I know what's the issue here? Another odd thing is that I get "No error/warning messages found in alert log", how come? There's an "extent" warning just now...

hali
oracle 7?! no idea :)
11g is nice
vmnew
right, using that as well
DiscordianUK
(Action) remembers doing my V7 DBA
But not that stuff

I've used 9i,10g and 11g for a couple of years now and now one of our top unix analysts just got fired after 30 years, in which he somehow didn't replace that old oracle 7 topology... so I gotta downgrade my mind now :P

Hello
usn_work
good morning
idletask
Hello usn_work
Uh, I'm such a dork sometimes
I forgot to gather the schema stats and I wondered why it was slow :/
usn_work
hehe
don't forget to gather system stats
at least once in a lifetime at peak time
idletask
We had nasty surprises with then in 10g
Doesn't 11g gather these automatically anyway by default?
Rudemeister
hi
bye
mator
:(
Rudemeister
?
tijnie
idletask, 11g doesn't accumulate stats out of the box :-) (you asked 2 hours back)
make a dbms_job and you will be fine.
idletask
tijnie: are you sure about that?
tijnie
Well, I didn't look it up in docu. But the database I'm working on rigth now (11G) doesn't accumulate out of the box
I had to make a job.
idletask
When you create an instance from scratch (with dbca), you have the option of including a number of maintenance tasks by default - and you say stats gathering are _not_ one of them?
This is not what I've heard :/
tijnie: what commands did you enter to look this up? I'm no good with dbms_job or dbms_scheduler :/
Rudemeister
what if my OEM agent didnt run for a while and theres tomuch xml to upload
tijnie
haha...there's the problem. I seem to remeber that I choose not those maintenance jobs while installing.
Rudemeister
(err-400)
toomuch
idletask
tijnie: ah... But hints as to how to look up what's already running are welcome to me :p
tijnie
idletask, you van use dbms_job package to create new jobs (or alter existing ones)
To check what allready is there have a look in dba_jobs
idletask
tijnie: I thought this was obsoleted by dbms_scheduler?
tijnie
idletask, documentation concerning dbms_job : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28419/d_job.htm#BABHCBFD
Rudemeister
ok got my answer thorugh google, tnx guys
through
tijnie
Yup, that's rigth, but I come across a lot of dbms_job. So I naturally go to dbms_job. However dbms_scheduler is more current
(http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28419/d_job.htm#BABHCBFD)
Oh ... that's the same as the abov.
You could use : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28419/d_sched.htm#CIHHBGGI for dbms_scheduler
idletask
tijnie: thanks! Will read
Right now, I'm finetuning my full dp export/import job of a CMSDK schema...
tijnie
haha still busy. Any successes so far?
ItsMeMario
How can i use toplink? We need to create a project, in eclipse...
idletask
tijnie: yep
tijnie: it works like a charm
But only after a 5 day work :/
ItsMeMario
How can i use toplink? We need to create a project, in eclipse...
idletask
Now, I'm into commenting the 10 (!) data pump param files that I use for this operation
tijnie
idletask, great good to hear. Well next time you can do it in 1 day. I always see these kind of things as valuable learning moments
idletask
tijnie: so do I, but from the CTO's point of view, it's 3 days late, heh
I don't care, I want the job done properly
I did learn a lot
tijnie
exactly.
The CTO also want the job done properly. only...he doesn't realize
ItsMeMario, I suppose adding the jar's to your classpath, and add the jar to your project. Then start playing around.
ItsMeMario, Can't help you any further, because I never used toplink or eclips. I'm a netbeans fan. But all those JPA's do the same in the end I guess. So play around with it.
ItsMeMario, Oh... and google told me some more : http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/jpa/eclipse/eclipse.html
I would say, that should do it.
Rudemeister, what was the solution? a workaround or a parameter had to be changed?
ItsMeMario
Thank u guy! You are google-fu mester
uaheuhe
tijnie
:-)
idletask
When you're a learner, you rapidly become a gugle-fu
tijnie
My career is based on the martial art of google
(by now I have a blackbelt in googling)
Rudemeister
:>
idletask
I owe a lot of my carrier to being able to research documentation as well
Google is not the only source :p
(Action) is starting to "get the hang of" dbvault
tijnie
idletask, that kind of functionality is what I fear most. No objective reason for it, but something makes me think : bleh
idletask
tijnie: well, it kind of makes sense, but it is not enough by itself
There's one fatal flaw in its base setup, but it is fixable after all (metalink told me how)
tijnie
Well I (ofcourse) understand that such functionlaty is nessecary, especially in health-car / legal. But
But, somhow I think it only adds complexity.
idletask
It doesn't have to
tijnie
uhmmmm can you elaborate some on the flaw?
idletask
The role segregation is done well enough that you can manage it easily enough
THE fatal flaw to my eyes is that, in its basic setup, the audit trail cannot be purged at all
The second one is that it needs a kernel compiled with the necessary functionality, but then mounting the db engine r/o and checksumming takes care of that
The first flaw can be worked around by exploiting the second :p
tijnie
hahaha, fun to read, but in in reality not to nice imho. I suppose Oracle will come up with a proper fix.
idletask
Well, I asked metalink to...
tijnie
(Or they say:"No that's how is designed"
idletask
I don't care, if (I think) something is a bug, I say it plainly and clearly :p
http://www.pastebin.ca/1811877 <-- here is what I sent to the Oracle support
(some English errors, I admit)
tijnie
Looks to me as a valid business-case for oracle
(I'm not english, so I don't mind the errors (I don't even notice them))
Did you allready get a reply or notification?
idletask
Well, metalink provided me with a way to allow deletion from the audit trail with a one-shot procedure
ie, shutdown everything, relink oracle without dbvault, startup, grant delete on the trail to the appropriate role(s), shutdown again, relink with dbvault, restart instance
And it works
But it should be setup that way from the start imnsho
tijnie
I agree. And it's not a very difficult fix. Oracle can implement it pretty straigth forward.
idletask
bbl
I have a memory hole :/
What is the table/view to use to view function/procedure source?
Wouldn't that be user_source/dba_source?
I get a 4043 when trying to describe them :(
RJarett
interesting. you cant run direct nfs when your oracle home is on nfs due to setuid issue
lovely...
you have to copy a file to local storage and symlink it back to the nfs share across all systems
idletask
Grrr
TDE has bugs
RJarett
anyone here using direct nfs ?
esp to multiple sources
idletask
No, I avoid NFS with Oracle, it wants crazy parameters
And I use a SAN, not a NAS
RJarett
iji think i found the issue. oracle needs the mounts on the OS level too
not just in the db
hali
RJarett: yes and no , and i did and i don't :)
i use direct nfs
idletask
What is "direct NFS" anyway
hali
tested multiple paths to the filer via oranfstab but didn't see an improvement so moved off it
idletask
s,$,?,
RJarett
its a NFS driver in the DB that allows direct io over nfs
hali
having multiple ips on the sam vlan didn't didn't do any difference
idletask
Eh?
RJarett
hali, i have 4 nics, each on their own subnet
same to the netapp
idletask
Like the DB knew better than the OS about NFS
hali
im testing two storage vlans to the box sometime next week probably
