how do you get the web interface for oracle express to listen on multiple interfaces? so far it only listens on 127.0.0.1
EFFINBUCKY
anyone familiar with forms builder for oracle?
(Action) scratches head
Dormir
haven't used it in awhile
EFFINBUCKY
item prompt is the part you actually put text
am i correct?
Dormir
ummm, maybe? :)
EFFINBUCKY
little buzzing and am trying to think
maybe is good enough for me
lol
ty
Dormir
try it and see
EFFINBUCKY
buzzing and watching creation the movie
was wrong prompt is just the text display for the actual part u put or read text from database
text items is that part
just to let it be known
dballester
good morning to all
fun tip of the day : customer with a datawarehouse with 3 groups of redo, each one with only a memeber of 52 MB. Count from 1 to 10 and breath

idletask
Hello
Is there a way to "print" a boolean with a select <somebooleanexpression> from dual?
Apart from case when else end
dballester
mmmhmh... don't remember but may be with a decode?
idletask
Well, decode or case, same story
Isn't there a to_string() for booleans?
dballester
same history?
select decode (value, true,'TRUE','FALSE') from dual?
anyone working with datawarehouses? i've something to comment about D&R
edje2
hi all, i have a user with a "ORA-28001: the password has expired" i don't know what password is used, so i can't change it. is there a way to just unexpire the password, without setting a new one ?
dballester
no one experienced in datawarehouse environments ? ( Typical of 500G with OWB, for example )
idletask
Hmm, why would you want to use the dvsys special procedures instead of, say, sys_context() to grab the username for instance?
Reign1
hi, how to make a compressed tablespace? this is nonsence, im on 11.2, use "DEFAULT COMPRESS FOR OLTP" and get error that i dont specify compression type
wtf?
toader
hello
idletask
Cool, I can use custom tables and functions to condition CONNECT via a dbvault command rule
It wasn't without pain
But it's doable
dballester
hi again
thinking about giving "MMA" ( note the quotes! O:D ) to a datawarehouse
i thought about RAC in active/passive 2 nodes cluster + flashback (GRP ) + promote NOLOGGING ETLs + RMAN ( full + incrementals with tracking change file to protect the noredo operations ), any tip?
RJarett
Yeah avoid rac
dballester
ah! + hardware san mirroring to standby site
why avoid RAC?
RJarett
$$, and little gain
dballester
i said active/passive
RJarett
whats yoru uptime requirement?
so you still need to license it on ENT
dballester
in the worse scenario, less than 1/2 day
RJarett
thats it?
dballester
a bunch of hours
RJarett
how many TB is the DB?

dballester
500GB
RJarett
so you have mirrored sans?
dballester
no, is part of my proposals
RJarett
with an image copy backup w/ rman if you have a major failure you can switch database to copy and be up and running in a few sec
and if you did something like a virtualized DB on vmware you could vmotion it to another box in the need of hardware work
dballester
flashback for logical errors, mirror for site disaster + rman for the last chance
RJarett
whats your daily data change rate?
100+gb?
dballester
i don't think so
just taking a look
RJarett
you would be better served with advanced dataguard if anything vs rac
have a 2nd running copy of the DB in readonly mode, and in a disaster you bring it up as primary
dballester
data guard was my first choice, but have appends with nologging
that's what i wanna make a rman tracking, to get the changes after the appends in an incremental call to rman
RJarett
yeah i process about 300gb/night. i know the hell of nologging
its a serious pain
dballester
how you deal with it?
RJarett
just bite the bullet
dballester
i am thinking in using block tracking file and after the ETLs, make a backup
and have all nologging changes in a backup set
and generate a new 'full base' with the previous full and the daily incremental
start flashback login before the ETLs
stop it after
this could give me something to lay on in case of logical failure
rac active/pasive and san mirror
RJarett
meeting
dballester
to hardware error
the 2 node rac active passive could be a good base to consolidate other databases that are flying around
the append kills me, the data guard could be a good solution in this particular environment
but i don't wanna force logging
who knows tomorrow how can change all ( adquiring new companies, adding new applications, etc... )
well... i think that this is my (by now) better proposal
prodcutnews
hi
dballester
hi prodcutnews
prodcutnews
hi dba
hi, in sqlplus when i use set pause on and run any query ..it is crashing my sql client ..any idea
idletask
Not me, sorry
I didn't even know about set pause
prodcutnews
when result scroll off, it becomes mandatory to use set pause on ...or else see results only by spooling off to a file
idletask
Yes, well, what's the problem with the spool method?
If you use a decent EDITOR environment variable, this is not a problem
prodcutnews
no prob with spool but cant do spooling everytime....moreover default editor im using which is notepad
idletask
Arf
I use vim
RJarett
why are you using sqlplus then? and not a more suitable environment like sql developer?
prodcutnews
its mandatory rule to stick to sqlplus available every where ...whenever i visit different clients and take their seats to solve their problem
elc0
is there a chan for berkeley db?
avaia
is your cat tired?
idletask
No, my cat(s) exhaust me though
Trengo
sleepycat :P
it's oracle's now, btw
elc0
was that some clever net lingo addressed to me?
or are we really talking about cats in #oracle
trying to find some bdb help
RJarett
oracle wants to sell sleepycat
usn_work
why don't you just ask
idletask
elc0: no, it's the fact that before BerkeleyDB was owned by oracle, it was owned by a company named Sleepycat software (hence the pun)
RJarett: really?
usn_work
the risk getting kicked becaus of ask-to-ask is as high as the risk for asking off-topic ;)
Trengo
elc0 i've limited exp with BDB but ask away
elc0
from a unix cmd line, is there a way to find the version running?
idletask
Of Oracle?
usn_work
of bdb, I'd guess, idletask :P
idletask
Hmmyeah
Sorry, brain fart
Trengo
elc0 of what?
elc0
bdb
Trengo
a .db file?
file my.db
db_dump -V
or something
elc0
Trengo: thanks. im getting somewhere. ill continue debugging. Will be back if I get stuck
Trengo
elc0 what you doing?
prodcutnews
/nickserv/access/list
dballester
usn_work, long time :)
elc0
Trengo: sorry bailed before I saw your question. working with memcachedb
Trengo: there was a mismatch in versioning that prevented db_hotbackup from running
usn_work
dballester, ;)
prodcutnews
how to look at motd
and change it too
Trengo
elc0 oh cool
sidh
prodcutnews: please don't pv people you don't know asking questions nobody answers here ... This is not the way of using irc
prodcutnews
im using sqlplus, whenever i do host it takes me c:\oracle_home\bin directory , all my codes are in c:\code, how can i make this directory as default, so that can get or put queries ( .sql files ) from c:\code directory.
sidh
why didn't you launch sqlplus when y'oure in c:\code
and then @your.sql from there
prodcutnews
how to verify whether oracle application server is running or not ?
usn
prodcutnews, is there any oc4j stuff in process list?
