UltraSPARC T2+ based T5240, has anyone setup a database on this hardware

I have a Linux/Debian laptop from which I've used DbVisualiser to connect to various Oracle DB's at work. For the last few weeks, I keep getting "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection". I get this error whether I use sqlplus, sqldeveloper or dbvisualiser. Other people can connect to the same DB instance I'm trying to connect to. I can RDP and ping the oracle server system. I've googled this and tried everything
suggested but to no avail.
zasz
format and install a supported OS
mns
zasz, oracle is running on Windows server

Hi. Where can I configure the apex web access to be able to login not only from localhost ? (I'm not able to login after an installation and I think perhaps because it could be possible only via localhost)
GrIM147
anyone know how to store files binary/images out side of the database , iam useing oracle XE with apex 3.1

hi
is there a safe way to backup the create statements for all tables and external tables, procedures, functions and packages from a oracle 10g database? I don't need any content just the code...
GrIM147
keep code before :P use version control . dont know about that was also looking for somthing like that
i know apex has something built in like that if you use apex at all
but it puts it all in one file

marco___
basically we have everything, just want to make sure there was nothing not commited to the cvs ;)
I googled but didn't find anything, really wonder that it's nto a more common issue
GrIM147
marco___, i every now and then checkout then run a install script that has everything listed through sqlplus against dev enviroment and make sure , very long prossess :P
marco___
:(
GrIM147
marco___, the only other way of doing it is in htmldb you go to utils then say generate DDL but it puts it in a single sql file quite annoying
per schema bases

How can I determine the ORACLE_SID ? is this perhaps the DB Name 'XE' ?
I'm getting "ORA-01034: ORACLE not available" in a sqlplus console and I think because I did not set up the ORACLE_SID correct...
But I don't know what it is or what I should set...
ok got it
bob_f
Yop. Am I correct that it is not possible to use a subselect with COUNT() ? e.g. SELECT tbl2.x, COUNT(SELECT * FROM tbl WHERE tbl.id = tbl2.id) FROM tbl2 WHERE ...;

hello, I'm trying to create a repository for XML, but when I call "dbms_xdb.createFolder('/home/XMLREPO');" I get the error ORA-31001: Invalid resource handle or path name "/home/XMLREPO". can you help me please?
I'm on it since 2 hours and I can't figure out why it doesn't want to create the repo..
I am on Debian Linux with Oracle XE by the way. maybe the repos are only available on the Entreprise Edition?
dsdel
Morg0th: checked that oracle can access the path?
Morg0th
dsdel: I just created a repo but in the path "/public/xmlrepo" and it worked.. but I don't have any /public directory in my files. I think I didn't trully understand how repository works..
hever
is it possible to create a database via apex or another web interface ???
Dormir
hever: you want to create a database in oracle terms or a database in mysql/mssql terms?
Morg0th
how is it possible to increase the lines length in sqlplus? for example if I do a "select r.res.getclobval() from resource_view r where equals_path(res,'/public/xmlrepo') = 1;" I only get "<Resource xmlns="
Dormir
Morg0th: try set long 999999
Morg0th
Dormir: it is working, thanks :)

Dormir, I dont know. A howto says "1. Run the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant located in the Windows Start/Oracle/Configuration and Migration Tools menu to create a database instance...." But I'm on the shell...

I'm trying to install Oracle 10g under Ubuntu and when switch to Oracle user get message about i don't have path of my HOME directory
anyone here
_tydeas_
i oracle an ordbms? does it support user defined types?
Trengo
yes
Adam-85
Are there anyone here ??????????
_tydeas_
Trengo: are this supported in xe edition too?
more certain oracle-xe-univ-10.2.0.1-1.0.i386.rpm
Adam-85
hey
My problem in the PATH HOME directory to install Oracle with Ubuntu
anyone can help
Trengo
_tydeas_ no idea, look at the site?
dsdel
Adam-85: ubuntu is not supported from oracle. however there are plenty of tutorials which you can find using google which should tell you what packages and modifications you have to make for running oracle 10 on ubuntu
it depends on your exact rls of oracle you're going to install and the release of ubuntu. hard to tell all this in irc
Morg0th
is it possible to install dbms_java to use java procedures without reinstalling Oracle?
Adam-85: I'm using Oracle on Debian but I installed the XE edition from the packages, it is more easy
_tydeas_
i installed oracle xe server
how do i start creating databases and tables
should i install a client as well?
dsdel
_tydeas_: oracle xe has a database allready installed/configured. you can access it through the db homepage
client utilities are also installed
_tydeas_
although i have started the server when i try to start homepage i get Unable to connect
ideas?
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:8080.
Morg0th
_tydeas_: I don't know but did you do "lsnrctl start" ?
_tydeas_
i /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start
bash: lsnrctl: command not found
Morg0th
_tydeas_: lsnrctl is in $ORACLE_HOME/bin
_tydeas_
[dmtrsslvdr@dmtrslocal bin]$ lsnrctl start bash: lsnrctl: command not found
ideas?
Morg0th
is it possible to install dbms_java to use java procedures without reinstalling Oracle?
_tydeas_
didn't understood
i have apache installed
do you thing there may be problem with that?
Morg0th
_tydeas_: sorry, dbms_java has nothing to see with that, I just asked for someone to answer me. but I don't know, you should have a lsnrctl file that you can launch with "lsnrctl start" with the oracle user. I had a similar problem with something like that but I'm not sure this is because of that
ikonia
(Action) nods to the dba's
usn_work
the nod port is closed, we are GDI
ikonia
wow
usn_work
;)
ikonia
handy link in the topic for me there
usn_work
which one?
(for QS) ;)
ikonia
Linux
although I don't think it's what I'm looking for
I'm struggling to install an Oracle 9 client on a RHEL5 x86_64 box
it looks like the installer doesn't like the version of java that RHEL5 uses
plus it also looks like the client is 32bit so is expecting libraries in the wrong path
usn_work
hehe, old 9i trouble
ikonia
I'd love to take it forward to 10 or even 11
I strugglged to even get an Oracle 9 client download, now it appears I only have the 32bit version
usn_work
trouble is, that the java on the CD might not run on your OS, isn't it?
ikonia
that's a fail point, and would explain why it's looking int he 32bit library path for libraries,
usn_work
copy the disk to your HD and edit runInstaller. Change the java environment there
ikonia
I thought it was using the machines local java
usn_work
nots, it brings its own for installing
ikonia
thats a nice tip - thanks
usn_work
9i on a not-exactly-supported platform is PITA ;)
ikonia
I know, I know
I'm trying to convince them to move his box to a 10 client at least
usn_work
what db version do they have to connect to?
ikonia
a mix of an 8.1.7 and 9.02$something
the 8.1.7 backward compatability is the problem
usn_work
no
ikonia
I feel I'm being blind here - there is no reference to java in the runinstaller script
usn_work
8.1.7 server was supported until 10.2 client
ikonia
ooh really
maybe it's 8.1.6
usn_work
yes
then you have trouble anyway, last supported client for a 8.1.6 server is 9.0.1, no 9.2 allowed
and_, honestly, nobody wants 9.0
ikonia
I agree
(not got my support matrix in front of me)
usn_work
metalink note 207303.1
most important DBA pin-up ever ;)
ikonia
ahhh I'm not a dba - hence my grovelling in here
I'm telling lies, it's a 9iR2 database
just found the mail
screw it then, I'll upgrade the client to 10
how odd, nice one for pointing that out
I only checked as you showed the initial argument was flawed
thank you

Is this channel primarily for Oracle's DB software or is any Oracle product fair game here?
Dormir
any is fair game, though most people here know the database, I think

Having some issues with installing Oracle's VM product. I've gotten the server installed on a server, got the management software installed by script on another system. Neither the server nor manager hardware are recognized by X-Windows, so I'm trying to access the manager web interface from my laptop, but when I try to go in, I get a 403 Forbidden error. I've tried googling 'oracle vm manager 403 error' but wasn't able to find anything really applicable. An
