Hello
I have found the answer to my question (how to relocate ADR)
Just set ADR_BASE and this is done
sidh
greetings gentlemen
i have to load a csv file into a table with sql*loader, but i have problem for some "date" record in my csv file , some are in "2006-06-09 23:39:32" and some are in "2006-06-09 23:39:32.133000000", in my ctl file for all date record i set [,date_field "to_date(:date_field,'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:Mi:SS')" but i get error with long date format in the csv, any idea ?

I want to use utl_mail to send the output from show parameters, whats the keyword that I should read up on?
I'd rather use utl_mail.send() instead of some kind of raw message method
mator
cmug, echo "show parameters;" | sqlplus "/ as sysdba" | mail -s "show params" user@domain.tld ?
cmug
mator, yeah but my exercise was to do it in a sqlplus prompt :)
but ok, it would require probably to create my own procedure, then use the raw smtp stuff to compile a message
mator
cmug, make pl/sql select cycle and read from v$parameter ?
cmug
I can't shake this shell type of thinking that something like exec utl_mail.send(..., message => `select * from table`); should/could work

Could any of you fine fellows tell me what Oracle's stance on VMware environments is?
I.E. deployment on a VM
Or point me in the general direction of some docs
RJarett
http://oraclestorageguy.typepad.com/oraclestorageguy/2009/04/what-the-oracle-vmware-support-statement-really-meansand-why.html
just dont tell them its on vmware
whats your OS? rhel 5. whats your hardware? HP
see no need to mention anything else
daveStyle
OS will probably be RHEL5 and the hardware is HP BL460c's
I guess so
CentOS isn't a supported distribution is it ?
RJarett
not officially
but ive neve rhad an issue with it
its a rhel rebuild
daveStyle
I know. And I'm a big fan. But I need to build an Oracle box for a customer and having it supportable would be nice
RJarett
are they going to pay $1500/year in rhel support?
mator
talking about centos, 'rhad' is a good misprint :)
daveStyle, install rhel5 then
daveStyle
hehe score
mator
or sles
daveStyle
I've been looking for an chance to play with sles
But playtime is another time I guess
mator
but i would go with rhel5, not used sles for about 5 years now....
phimic
hi all
daveStyle
RJarett: Good article that
phimic
are the content of the directory in adump bdump cdump ddump hdump and udump importaint?
RJarett
they can be
cdump is core files so it can be purged
id say keep a few days of trace logs in case you need them
phimic
my parition is 90% full and i need to cleanup
RJarett
and dont delete the alert log but cat /dev/null > alert...
phimic
can i delete files in *dump older than one month?
RJarett
yeah
but im bettign you have more data elsewhere taking up space
daveStyle
RJarett: From what I can gather there, support should be fine. Wheather you decide to mention it or not

RJarett
one thing about oracle on VMware, you must license based on physical server CPU. not vm vcpu
since they say vmware is not hard partitioning (like solaris zones or oracle vm server is)
which is total BS
mator
a few years ago, i was working in some company, there's was another system administrator besides of me, he was on night duty, and in teh morning I've changed him. How impressed was our oracle developers, when "select" statement on the devel server
started to return an error
I've went to investigate, and what do you think - it was one of oracle db datafiles deleted
RJarett
"i ran out of space"
mator
calling a night sysadmin, he told that server was running out of space, so he just selected one biggest and deleted it
RJarett
thats why i refuse to work at a company where anyone touches the OS of my servers but me
phimic
RJarett: take a look http://pastebin.com/m2f2b938e
RJarett
if you have 7g in bdump somethings wrong :P
bother looking at any of them?
phimic
RJarett: they have all the same content http://pastebin.com/m7f56db06
RJarett
oh you have auditing turned on high?
thats adump not bdump
phimic
how can i disable that?
RJarett
ls -ltra bdump/* | tail
then cat one of the last 2 files in bdump
auditing isnt taking up much space in your system. i dont think bdump would be the audit traces too
phimic
RJarett: output is here http://pastebin.com/m2d8d4b52
RJarett
cat a few of those files it listed
phimic
RJarett: in bdump are some directories like cdmp_20070824141403
seems to be old

RJarett: in some csv file i have to sql*load , i have "date" record that are like "2006-06-09 23:39:32" and some are in "2006-06-09 23:39:32.133000000", how can i do to load only the "YYYY-MM-DD HH24:Mi:SS" part ?
do you thin i have to awk the csv file first or is it possible to do that directly within SQL*Loader ?
RJarett
depends how you split the columns in your control file
sidh
i split with |
RJarett
but if you pass a mask it should be fine
sidh
ok so i should set DATE(18) then
?
RJarett
no dip
whatevercol positionentry date "mask"
dont knwo fi you use position() or what
sidh
RJarett: if i set only a mask
YYYY-MM-DD HH24:Mi:SS, i get an ORA-01830 error
as i can see in SQL*Loader can set a length too, i was thinking about DATE(18)
RJarett
who ever exported out your csv is a giant dipsh*t
Pikshik
hi, ppl
will 11g client work with 10g db? (i mean different programs as toad or any other)
RJarett
yes
but not always if its instant client
depends on how the app was written
Pikshik
normal client, not instant
will different included features
(i'm beginner :) sorry for stupid question)
RJarett
itll be fine
sinesio
hi all, I need to know how to enable SNMP traps so I can receive alarms if my DB goes down or something like that
I've already created a notification method on the Database control
and applied that method to the default notification rules
but is this all that I should do?
because it is sending traps but not as I expected, e.g.: if I shutdown the DB I don't receive a trap, but sometimes only when i do the 'startup' i receive the trap saying that the DB is down
basically I think the DB is not sending traps in an asynchronous manner
I think it is only sending traps from time to time
can anyone help me with this?
RJarett
sinesio: why does it have to be snmp?
sinesio
because i'm using an NMS and I think the standard for receiving traps is SNMP
RJarett
ahh. i prefer active checks
sinesio
how?
RJarett
nagios. check_by_ssh calling my own check scripts
sinesio
ok, but that can only check from time to time right?
RJarett
on a schedule
sinesio
ok, right
RJarett
i check hundreds of things on my DB
it being up or down i dont care about since if its down one of my other checks will fail and ill know automatically
i need details and specs
sinesio
but the main purpose of having this SNMP traps is that it can work asynchronously, as soon as the DB wents down I should receive a trap
RJarett
why?
whats going to send the trap to you in you have nms as a reception host
sinesio
I think OMS and OMA are able to test the DB availability, and if it wents down, warn me.... i'm running a HA scenario with Dataguard
RJarett
and you setup OMS to use SNMP in conjunction with the systems net-snmp setup?
sinesio
thats what i'm trying to find out....
the way that this should work
right now i only tested with EM DB control
but it is not working properly
RJarett
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/b16244/chap2.htm#CHDCCEFB
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/b16244.pdf
sinesio
i'm using 11gR2
RJarett
and?
sinesio
and when I try to follow that tutorials I don't have the same folder structure
RJarett
when you snmpwalk the host what do you get?
sinesio
I have installed Oracle Database 11gR2... but right now I think I will have to install OMA and OMS
i've been reading alot on this, but still can figure out what is the best aproach
RJarett
what do you get if you snmpwalk the box?
sinesio
I didn't snmpwalk the box yet
i'm really new to SNMP
RJarett
so you dont even know if its setup or responding
sinesio
I've already received SNMP traps from the box into my NMS
RJarett
which traps?
disk and cpu/memory crap?
or oracle traps
sinesio
e.g: if I test the Notification method on my EM DB control
I'm receiving EM traps
oraEM4AlertMessage Failed to connect to database instance: ORA-12541: TNS:no listener (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).;
RJarett
so whats the problem?
sinesio
the problem is that I don't receive the traps when expected
e.g: if I shutdown the DB I don't receive any trap
and thats What I wanted the most
RJarett
then tell OEM that rule
sinesio
then when I startup the DB, only then I receive the traps saying the DB is down
RJarett
since if you shut it down, it may not be getting triggered
actually
you could be taking away the sysman user lol
and dbsnmp account
sinesio
I have that rule on the OEM
RJarett
make an OS based snmp trap to look for pmon or smon process and fire if its not found
take this out of oracles control
sinesio
ok, but then I would have to schedule that task to test that process availability, right?
can you explain me how is the SNMP process working on Oracle with EM dbcontrol?
is there a master agent and a sub-agent? Because this really confuses me
RJarett
not sure how 11 does it
i just never trusted snmp
usn
