is it possible to change ORACLE_HOSTNAME after installation of oracle without reinstalling ?
getting closer and closer
after googling and goooling
TheBonsai
ORACLE_HOSTNAME? where? what?
dagnachew
I had to change ORACLE_HOME_LISTNER=$ORACLE_HOME
TheBonsai, am getting close
TheBonsai
what's the problem
dagnachew
know I have http://www.pastebin.ca/1734490
TheBonsai
which files exist in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs?
dagnachew
TheBonsai, I just have init.ora under that
TheBonsai
init<SID>.ora
dagnachew
TheBonsai, you want me to rename that file ? init.oradb.ora ?
my sid is that
oradb
TheBonsai, this my init.ora http://www.pastebin.ca/1734492

TheBonsai
<TheBonsai> init<SID>.ora
<dagnachew> TheBonsai, you want me to rename that file ? init.oradb.ora ?
did i write a dot before the SID?
dagnachew
nope
init<oradb>.ora like this ?
or initioradb.ora ?
TheBonsai
initoradb.ora
dagnachew
ok
TheBonsai
it's the default name for starting up an instance with a given SID (ORACLE_SID)
dagnachew
TheBonsai, latest attempt http://www.pastebin.ca/1734497
I installed ortacle as user oracle
oracle
TheBonsai
#
# Change '<ORACLE_BASE>' to point to the oracle base (the one you specify at
#
# install time)
erm
this is a complete example-only init
where is your init?
dagnachew
init.ora ? in /dbs/
TheBonsai
your real init
not the one you put on pastebin
dagnachew
TheBonsai, /data/oracle/product/11.2/dbs/init.ora
TheBonsai
this is http://www.pastebin.ca/1734492
?
dagnachew
TheBonsai, here it is http://www.pastebin.ca/1734505
TheBonsai
this is an example file
not a usable init
where is your init, the one that was created by dbca on database creation?
dagnachew
I did not run dbca because gui installed did it I think so
TheBonsai, am runnig it know
DiscordianUK
(Action) sighs
dagnachew
whatever :)
at least am alive
I was so disaponted am in my hospital bed with my laptop
I drunk too much and fainted
DiscordianUK
Oh dear
dagnachew
at least my neighbor was a nurse so before emregency she new what to do
here in montreal emergency are more or less fast
TheBonsai
well, if you have choosen to also create a database with the software installer, you already have a database
and an init file
DiscordianUK
I'm sorry you're so ill

dagnachew
just kidding
it ain't true
usn
most important when working on oracle, dagnachew: Don't try to read, don't try to understand what you do
DiscordianUK
I don't believe a word you say ever dagnachew
You lie too much
TheBonsai
yes, usn
dagnachew
TheBonsai, in gui installer I had created initial db
TheBonsai
if you do it, it could work
dagnachew
but my dbs is empty
TheBonsai
do you know where your control files are?
DiscordianUK
Numpty's are never gonna grok Oracle
dagnachew
TheBonsai, I am creating with it dbca and I get the eternal lost connection
TheBonsai
now show the init file
dagnachew
I am trying to do it with emca script with dbca I get connection lost
TheBonsai
<TheBonsai> now show the init file
dagnachew
same as before
because dbca gives me tns lost contact
TheBonsai
dbca gives you lost contact?
dagnachew
ora 12547 tns lost contact
TheBonsai
i.e. you can't create a database?
dagnachew
I started the dbca as oracle my /data/oracle permissions are drwxr-xr-x 16 oracle dba 4096 Jan 1 14:56 oracle
TheBonsai
<TheBonsai> i.e. you can't create a database?
dagnachew
TheBonsai, I gave my self permission in that
TheBonsai
it is a question
"does that mean you can't create a database using dbca?"
dagnachew
nope
TheBonsai
what does it mean then?
dagnachew
dunno
TheBonsai, in cfgtools I have this initoradbTemp.ora http://www.pastebin.ca/1734537
TheBonsai, my SID=oradb
TheBonsai
don't take it personal
but
*PLONK*
dagnachew
with a brick
I agree
I copy this to oracle_home_/dbs/ right ?
defaultro

DiscordianUK
(Action) admires TheBonsai 's patience

defaultr0
hey folks, I've been troubleshooting my test setup and I still can't get "emctl start dbconsole" to work.
I tried following what was mentioned here but I get different results, http://www.oracle-base.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9411&p=19153
Discordian
are there no ops here at all?
defaultr0
it says Listener is not up. However, I can see port 1521
Discordian
Can't some of these trolls not be banned?
defaultr0
who are the trolls?
I'm just asking for help. :)
Discordian
the ones who repeat the same thing endlessly
defaultr0
No, it's just my second time

I defer to those that are

niko-mojo
Hi room
I'm having this error trying to connect to oracle on ubuntu 9.04. Spent about 8 hrs looking at this and I'm stuck.
This is the error that I have googled
oracle@ubuntu:/home/noel$ sqlplus -L '/as sysdba'
SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.1.0 Production on Sat Jan 2 17:24:45 2010
Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved.
ERROR:
ORA-09925: Unable to create audit trail file
Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
Additional information: 9925
ORA-01075: you are currently logged on
SP2-0751: Unable to connect to Oracle. Exiting SQL*Plus
oracle@ubuntu:/home/noel$
Any one :)
DiscordianUK
The error is clear enough
You can't write the audit file
I'd look at the permissions on $ORACLE_HOME
niko-mojo
I know - even though I checked my init.ora file that the path was correct
DiscordianUK
Are you executing that sqlplus as the oracle user?
niko-mojo
But I renamed my init.ora to init.orax to check that it was being read from but still got the same error so I'm not sure if its getting read properly
yes runnng as oracle
oracle@ubuntu:/home/noel$ whoami oracle
DiscordianUK
Hmmm
id -a gives dba as one of the groups?
On this install the log directory is owned by oracle and the group is the dba
niko-mojo
returns uid=1001(oracle) gid=1001(oinstall) groups=1001(oinstall),1002(dba)
DiscordianUK
and permissions are 755
niko-mojo
