ne1 here good with xqueries?
DiscordianUK
I've downloaded the 11GR2 zip files for linux 64 bit, the 2of2 zip unzips but I get CRC errors on some of the jar files
zasz
download it again
DiscordianUK
My understanding of zips is that if the zip itself was corrupt then it wouldn't unzip
nyc-h0st
that is a false understanding
zasz
I didn't get any CRC errors when I decompressed mine, so download it again
DiscordianUK
Okay
(Action) sighs
That's yet another 5 hour download
zasz
no sighing

nyc-h0st

Hi. I am trying to find a torrent site that allows me to download Oracle 11gR2. Can anyone help?
Right now, Oracle site is the only that I know to download Oracle 11gR2 but it takes a long time to download. I need a site that allows me to download multiple segmented file.
dsdel
use a download manager? :D
RAmiri
dsdel, what type of download manager are you suggesting?
dsdel, This is how I download the Oracle 11g. I use firefox and find the Oracle site that allows me to download and then I click on the file to download. Although I have a download manager named DAP. This DAP does not come into action when I download from the Oracle site but in other case yes it will play its role.
Anybody can help with the download of ora 11gR2?

how to check if UTL TCP is on?

I know how to alter a system parameter with oracle (alter system set paramname=value) but how do I read the actual value of that parameter?
RAmiri
Anybody can help with downloading Ora 11gR2?
dsdel
mastro: show parameter <param>;

mastro
dsdel, thanks, but what's the System? is it a table?
dsdel, may be some alias to a table?
dsdel
there are differen parameter settings: pfile/spfile and further
a view is also available v$parameter or v$parameters ? :D
mastro
dsdel, 'show parameter PARAM;' give me "invalid sql statement
dsdel
show parameter sga;
SQL> show parameter sga;
NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- -------
lock_sga boolean FALSE
pre_page_sga boolean FALSE
sga_max_size big integer 712M
sga_target big integer 368M
mastro
dsdel, does this only work from sqlplus?
Junior
yello ;)
dsdel
mastro: yes, if you don't use sqlplus you have to use the v$parameter view
hi Junior
Junior

hello guys! say I have a table with 3 columns A, B and C; how can I select the Nth first distinct (A,B) tuples ordered by A, B *and* C
that is, my column C is only useful in that it defines an order
intuitively, I'd like a SELECT DISTINCT A, B FROM ... ORDER BY C; but that just isn't permitted

i would like to upgrade my dbconsole with "emca -config dbcontrol db" and will be asked for a passwort for DBSNMP. I never setup this password. What should i do?
mator
phimic, setup this password ?
mastro
dsdel, thank you
mator
phimic, http://www.held-informatik.de/docs/oracle/11.1/server.111/b28337/tdpsg_user_accounts.htm#BABGIBBA - by default (after an installation) dbsnmp password is locked

hi all
I've got some trouble with a java application (ofbiz)
Exception: org.ofbiz.entity.GenericDataSourceException
Message: SQL Exception while executing the following:UPDATE W011.JOB_SANDBOX SET RUN_BY_INSTANCE_ID = ?, STATUS_ID = ? WHERE ((RUN_TIME <= '2010-01-12 15:45:19.592' AND START_DATE_TIME IS NULL AND CANCEL_DATE_TIME IS NULL AND RUN_BY_INSTANCE_ID IS NULL) AND (POOL_ID IS NULL OR POOL_ID = 'pool')) (ORA-01843: not a valid month
So, I've googled
and i did an export NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT='RRRR-MM-DD HH24:MI:SSXFF'
(in /etc/profile)
so now, when running the request manually, it works
but i still have this error in my app
application and server are not on the same machine
could it be a ojdbc problem ? I also export NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT in my computer before launching it but no luck&
mamurdian
hello, why does this not work: http://pastie.org/774896
delete from aa where rownum >= 2;
does rownum not work, when tuple contains NULL?
mattboll
mamurdian: I'm not really aware with oracle, but does select * from aa where rownum >= 2; works ?
I think that you already tried and this happende only when some null values& sorry for the noise
mamurdian
mattboll> no
mattboll> np
i'm a noob, but yes allready tried this select.
i think rownum works in another way then i have expected
mattboll
mamurdian: rownum works only with < or <=, you should try with a subrequest
mamurdian
mattboll> yup

haven't written Oracle PL/SQL in a while, but am trying to rewrite some OO- SQL into a PL/SQL package and was wondering if there was a way to return the rows of a select in a procedure or function in oracle?
it just happens that in the OO SQL they write a lot of smaller functions that return result sets
and then they go ahead and call these functions in their SQL
Would the similar in Oracle SQL be using a View possibly? it makes the SQL look neater
antonym55
Hi, when I invokeĀ  "oracle stop" as user "oracle" is fine, if I use a different user, I get "dyld: Library not loaded: /b/227/rdbms/lib/libodm10.dylib"
export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
caturdayz
how do i pass an index by varchar type to a plsql procedure from java?
i've found plently of examples of how to pass an index by number array

hi folks, I've downloaded oracle-10.2.0.1 for Linux-x86 and wanted to install it on Ubuntu for educational purposes. Now the installer refrains because of unsupported os. Any ideas on how to get this working? I can't use the express edition due to the 4GB limit.
zasz
Install it on a supported OS
srm
good call.
avaia
srm: you can use "
err
or...
./runinstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
caturdayz
that seems somewhat dangerous
avaia
just sayin'
srm
thank you for the hint, will check this out.
zasz
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15660/pre_install.htm#sthref111
Rudemeister
anyone experienced with rman and hp dataprotector?
anyone?
noone?
zasz
bueller
srm
caturdayz: why do you consider -ignoreSysPrereqs dangerous?
zasz
because the installer does not check pre requisites, which are required for Oracle to work properly
caturdayz
right
it's one thing to try to get around the specific platform requirement
but that turns off all checks for installed packages, allocated ram, kernel config, etc, amirite?
i could be wrong about that
srm
I see, hopefully it's ok if I stick to the installation guide for all this stuff. There's no problem when the machine is messed up, just a one-shot test-system.
zasz
why don't you use a supported platform
srm
totally lazyness. But you're right. Going to grab a RH image and put it in the VM
*total
caturdayz
srm: i had a good experience with centos and modifying the redhat-release file
zasz
right... just do it the proper way from the get go
you'll have less issues
caturdayz
since centos is a redhat derivative
zasz
I've installed 10g and 11g on centos without any issues
srm
ack, time-to-grab-and-install image <= hassle-with-ubuntu-issues
zasz: would you elaborate on the redhat-release file modification?
zasz
http://madrid9999.googlepages.com/installdb10gr2rhel5
srm
thank yu
zasz
No srm, I did not need to modfy that
srm
*you
zasz
You are welcome
caturdayz
zasz: which redhat version?
er
which centos version?
zasz
I used 5.4
caturdayz
huh
i definitely had to convince oracle to install in centos
perhaps an older patch level of 11g
zasz
I had to do no such thing for 10g R2, 11g R1, or 11g R2
on CentOS 5.4
Shamrock
hi. I like to know if there is a torrent site for the Oracle software download.
srm
probably not. And if, they are unofficial. You have to bare with the oracle download server, it took me 3 days until I was successful with downloading
Shamrock
Wow, that is a long time. Where are you located my friend?
srm
good old europe
I've tried several times to download the 10g package but I always received connection closed/404 until today, the download worked, at 40k
Shamrock
If it took you 3 days to get, how about me who lives in the north pole!!
caturdayz
it took me maybe 3 hours when i was on a uni internet connection
srm
I guess you have just to be lucky...I don't blame my connection, I blame oracle's servers, I would wonder if the server's are interested in your location.
Shamrock
I wonder if Sun/Oracle know of this problem. We need to come up to tell them how interested people are.
zasz
works fine here
srm
Shamrock: just keep trying.
Shamrock
Yah, I am looking for some multi-server places that I can get this package of Ora gR12 in less than a half a day. If some one knows some way please let me know.
Dormir
Rudemeister: working on that myself (RMAN + HP Data Protector)
zasz
sup Dormir
Shamrock
How does that work?
Dormir
hey zasz
Rudemeister
Dormir: perhaps can you help me then
Dormir: how do you start backups, from rman (client) or from dpgui?
Dormir
currently, we start them with rman to disk, then DP picks them up
we're changing to RMAN and DP interacting. I'm working on that now
Rudemeister
ok
we start backup from dpgui
however..
then we miss the crucial rman logging such as piece handles, etc.
any resolution for that?
Dormir
hmmm, from what I've read so far, I don't know :)
Rudemeister
hmmm
its important
Dormir
but it seems like you don't get backup pieces
Rudemeister
lets keep in touch
what?
Dormir
everything's in one channel
Rudemeister
I dont understand
Dormir
but, like I said, I'm still reading up on it
Rudemeister
nevertheless, I want normal RMAN logging, no sbtio.log etc..
:P
Dormir
ok, I'll let you know what I find out
Rudemeister
tnx
if I got ill let u know
Dormir
question for you: when you set it up, did you have to link rman with DP?
trying to find documentation on configuring this and can't find anything detailed, just that it works
stoick
i have a select statement that has an 'IN' constraint of about 40 different strings. i believe this is why the sql is so slow. anything different i can do to speed it up?
zasz
you could use a lookup table instead
stoick
i should probably add all of these lists to a table anyway
zasz
is there an echo in here
stoick
i could have prefixed that with "you're right, "
ryan-g
does EXECUTE IMMEDIATE do any extra locking?
zasz
np
Dormir
extra locking? in addition to what?
ryan-g
Dormir: in addition to the table you may be modifying
Dormir: for example, does the PLAN table get locked on an EXECUTE IMMEDIATE?
Dormir
well, tables don't get locked
ryan-g
Dormir: if you have 5 DMLs in a transaction, are all 5 tables locked at the beginning of the Tx?
Dormir: ? a table is not locked during a DML?
Dormir
no
rows are locked
not tables
