Got an old PC with DG/UX (Data General) UNIX, on it we have a custom made Oracle Forms 3.0 application (only for DG/UX).
What are my options as to move it into a regular linux server, for example?
I understand that the DG/UX cannot be installed on anything other than that hardware PC.
Other than trying to convert everything to Forms 10 or another version, is there a way to install that forms3 on linux?

I have 11g and solaris10, when I start runInstaller it passes all test and shows splash screen with 'Loading setup driver', then freezes.
What do I do wrong?
mator
RaDz, check logs and that all pre-requisites is done properly
RaDz
all passed well
it seems I have wrong X
I start ssh session from linux to solaris and then run runInstaller, I have no physical access to that server
vmnew

s/HCL/OS Support and HCL
Trengo
you can probably buy it from them

mator
RaDz, how do you get X client (oracle in this case) forwarded to your X server? over ssh or whatever ?
RaDz
ssh
mator
RaDz, can you try without ssh forwarding ?
RaDz
you're right, I have to test to use DISPLAY environment
give me a minute
mator
RaDz, http://kerneltrap.org/node/7169
RaDz
yep, thank you
no, it doesn't help :(

I event have tried with TWM, nothing help
mator
did you tried without ssh connection forwarding your x session?
RaDz
yes, I try simple export DISPLAY=IP:0
mator
and when you export display=ip:0, does it show installer window ?
i mean is it the same problem again or not
RaDz
yes, it shows splash screen every time and waiting for unknown thing
mator
RaDz, whats oracle version btw ?
RaDz

vmnew
Trengo: looking to d/l it :)
RaDz

[oracle@turanga:~]$ find install_11g/ -name *.rsp
install_11g/response/dbca.rsp
install_11g/response/netca.rsp
install_11g/response/db_install.rsp
Trengo
vmnew cant say i've seen it around
mator
RaDz, http://www.pastebin.cz/30041
RaDz

RaDz
http://www.pastebin.cz/30043
mator
RaDz, i've no idea of such difference

RaDz
wow, after 10-20 minutes of freezing installer shows the first window of master
DNS works well, what else could stop the application
mator
RaDz, check the installer logs :)
RaDz
[oracle@turanga:~]$ cat /tmp/OraInstall2010-01-11_12-56-44PM/oraInstall2010-01-11_12-56-44PM.out
[oracle@turanga:~]$ cat /tmp/OraInstall2010-01-11_12-56-44PM/oraInstall2010-01-11_12-56-44PM.err

does someone work with SQL Developer?
is it with SQL Developer possible to watch a history of statments i just typed in?
RaDz
preparing to perform checks...
it seems the installer tries to connect to Internet
it sleeps for 10 minutes and more
mator
try to snoop all outgoing traffic on it, except of your X server machine? :)
RaDz
how it helps me to get faster the running installer?
mator
well, if you will know what it wants, you can try to give it to installer to run it faster and not to wait? :)
RaDz
heh
can I point snoop on particular process?

Hi. The 32-bit i386 sdk rpm download appears to be broken (it's appearing as text, not a download). Does anyone here know a working link?
mator
RaDz, per process - not that i know or sure that it is possible... since network stack doesn't know about processes running, i.e. kernel doesn't give the network stack an owner process pid number :)
thatcode, use anything other than a browser to download that link ?
(in binary form)
thatcode
But then I have log-in issues
mator
but you can report that problem to a site owners
thatcode
I've tried wget, but got the login page
mator
thatcode, wget just needs to get your cookies also
RaDz
i'll try gdb
thatcode
There's no cookies file for it to load, as they're only session cookies
mator
thatcode, google -> "oracle download wget cookies"
RaDz
f.ck, my zone on solaris has a problem with /usr/local/bin, so I can't install gdb :(
mator
RaDz, you can mount /usr/local as read-write with a zonecfg and "add fs"
RaDz
I tell admins about, just waiting
installer hangs on 'Loading Sun JDK' at step 'Install Product'

Hi. I was here earlier with problems downloading the rpm. I've managed that now and it says it's installed, but I can't get my apache to see it.
I'm on Debian, I've set LD_LIBRARY_PATH, I've restarted apache
I've added extension=oci8.so to my php.ini
oci8.so in in my extension_dir (checked on phpinfo)
mator
thatcode, apache to see _what_ ?
thatcode
the oci8 extension
I've solved it now, was missing a library
But it wasn't telling me
phimic
hi all and a happy new year to all
mator
hello phimic
phimic
i would like to do a minor upgrade from oracle-rac 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4
hi mator
what is the best way to do this, first upgrade clusterware and then the database? is a rolling upgrade possible?
RaDz
does SUNWlibC equal to SUNWlibc?
mator
RaDz, there's no such package name SUNWlibc
RaDz
ok, it seems there is an error at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e10848/pre_install.htm#BABFDGHJ
mator
yeah, but we can't do anything with it... you can try to contact oracle docs maintainers team or put your comment right there...
RaDz
snoop tells nothing useful, gdb can't attach to the installer process :(
http://dpaste.com/143617/
I guess it doesn't like -m option
mamurdia1

where can I download Oracle's forms 3? Looking for Oracle Forms 3 for Linux or Solaris. It'll be a lifesaver
mator

Hey
I've got a quick question, I'm trying to install a RAC cluster, and I'm getting this error
Checking existence of VIP node application (required)
Check failed.
Check failed on nodes:
aisracdbs2,aisracdbs1
cluvfy stage -post crsinst -n aisracdbs1,aisracdbs2 is the command i ran
Dormir
ok, what's the question?
the error tells the story there
NeosVortex
I'm not a dba
Dormir: we don't have a dba so Im an SA trying to figure this out
all of the other config steps have been completed, but now I'm stuck here
I don't know where to go to fix the issue
Dormir
did you set up a VIP for the server?
NeosVortex
yeah
Dormir
ok, I can help you out in a bit if no one does. need to step out
NeosVortex
Thanks Dormir

evening all

zasz

I've tried Google with either the wrong terms or no help: I've got a query I'm running. However, it /alternates/ the result set it gives back. One time it'll (properly) give back 1 row: othertimes it (incorrectly) returns about 54 rows.
Normally it does the right thing (give back 1 row), however it sometimes falls into this state of the alternating results.
The query is on a table, where a NUMBER column is greater than an INTEGER column.
Does anyone know of anything that can cause this behavior, or other methods to try to debug it?

zasz: teite thanks guys

I just had a user blow out a 4g temp tablespace. It was doing an insert into sys.ora_temp_1_ds_1064. Anyone know what this table would be? Other activity by the same session indicates some kind of stats job but I have no idea why a regular user would be inserting into a SYS table.
SwifT
chuckh1958
Any idea why iy would be using up 4g?
SwifT
could it be that it's a copy of an application table?
chuckh1958
No real info from Oracle no those tables.:(
It would be nice to know how large I need to make the temp tablespace for dbms_stats to work.

if it's for histogram purposes (like http://www.akadia.com/services/ora_gather_statistics.html), perhaps limit the size might help
but I'm working on I'net pages here, not knowledge :)
chuckh1958
I am not using histograms on anything. ???
Ok. Looks like the default stats job *is* creating histograms.
delfis
how to write DATE
type
in select?
where created ='2010.01.11'
for example
Legrow
i think you need to use the to_date function: http://www.techonthenet.com/oracle/functions/to_date.php
delfis
SELECT * from messages where created = TO_DATE('2009.06.26', 'yyyy.mm.dd');
this still not working :/
