Is there a way to get an ALTER statement from SQLDeveloper when editing a table. In MySQL, whenever you edit a table, it gives you the SQL statement before it executes so you can record it. Handy when you're trying to keep a development and production database in sync. Is there something similar for Oracle?
usn
Embry0, yes
Embry0
usn: Hi
usn
use the edit function for the table
do what you need to
choose SQL
Embry0
usn: Alright, so is there a way to get the actual ALTER statement, or will I need to put it together myself using the CREATE statement shown on the SQL tab?
usn
AFAIK you can't get the DDL for all tasks you did at once, you need to get them step by step (by pressing OK the developer executes them)
I was under the impression that it will give you only the ALTER if the object already exists
Embry0
Ah! I see it, the DDL item
I was hitting OK, then going to the SQL tab
but it looks like DDL gives me what I need
usn: Thanks!

hi, I created a new database sid and choosed "shared server" as a mistake, the sid has already been used and i have many users/tablespaces/tables into it, can I convert the database to a dedicated database? and if yes how? is it safe?
oracle 10.3

usn
didn't we talk about this topic recently?
both you and me?
dedicated server does always work as long as your client asks for it
to get rid of shared servers set the apropriate parameter in the DB to null
mastro
mastro
usn, yes but i don't know which this parameter are :)
usn, can't i use the dbca to modify it?
usn
no clue, but dbca would be an overkill
I told you the parameter, but looking it up by yourself should be easy enough
where did you get Oracle 10g R3?
mastro
from the oracle website
usn
is it new?
mastro
ah sorry it's 10.2
usn
hehe
do you know the link to the 10g docs?
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/homepage
mastro
usn, there are a lot of docs :)
usn
type "shared server" into the search link above
mastro
usn, uh.. interesting, what should I read? the administration guide?
i see
usn
look up the first three matches
try the same with dedicated server
in two hours you will know enough to explain the difference
and you will know and never forget how to
(Action) has to go

How do you setup a on delete restrict for a foreign key on oracle? I have read that is the default no action does this but then i have also see a set null with a not null on the fk field.
