hi all
hello everyone
DiscordianUK, are you the only here alive ?
DiscordianUK
I dunno
dagnachew
oh lord
you Dormir Xgc
DiscordianUK
the IRC servers are having trouble
dagnachew
tha
oic
that
that's why
hello mamurdia1
mnn
Any one know, try to startup, but memory_max_ ... Error
dev-shm's size is 13G
zasz
got a more detailed error?

mnn
Sure, ORA-00845:MEMORY_TARGET not supported on this system
lsnctrl start is ok
but..
zasz
did you just change the parameter then
mnn
yes, init.ora 's file changed that MEMORY_MAX_TARGET
but.. googling says,, change dev-shm size
So I remount and resize that, but i can't fix
Hm...What should I try to more..?
zasz
what does show parameter memory_max_target show
mnn
maybe 15000MB
zasz
what do you mean maybe
lol
mnn
because, my friend's problem ;-)
I saw the setting value is 15000
zasz
how much ram is in the server
mnn
4G
zasz
you could try something like this:
startup nomount
mnn
ok~!
zasz
alter system set memory_max_target=2048 scope=spfile;
mnn
ye
dsdel
If MEMORY_MAX_TARGET or MEMORY_TARGET is set to a non zero value, and an incorrect size is assigned to the shared memory, it will result in an ORA-00845 error at startup. The number of file descriptors for each Oracle instance should be at least 512*PROCESSES. Also, the limit of descriptors for each process should be at least 512. If file descriptors are not sized correctly, you will notice ORA-27123 from various Oracle processes and potentially Linux Error EMFILE
For example, if the shared memory file system allocation on your system is 1 GB, but you set Memory Size (MEMORY_TARGET) to 2 GB, then the following error messages are displayed during database startup:
ORA-00845: MEMORY_TARGET not supported on this system
ORA-01078: Failure in processing system parameters
zasz
makes sense
conflicting memory parameters
dsdel
yes, that's why I don't advice anyone who hasn't read into memory management of oracle to do it :D
zasz
because memory_max_target is the max pga+max sga
nah it's not too bad
i just haven't played with those 11g parameters yet
dsdel
nah it's not too bad to play with memory and then everything runs fine
but wait until the db is trying to use memory which isn't available... :D
had dozends of support cases in the last years only cause of memory problems
even overrun the typical archiver/harddisk space problems :D
zasz
damn
do you support oracle for a living
dsdel
the admin starts up the database, oracle starts up nicly utilitzing 2gb of memory
then the users start to sign in.. 2...2,5...3...3,5... crashdump

mnn
zasz,dsdel: Thanks a lot, I'll try!!
dsdel
luckily 64bit is here :D but that doesn't prevent people from assigning 2x memory to the database as it is inside the server
zasz: na we provide an erp system for textile industry and our main database is oracle
so i'm in support for oracle installations/updates/problems with our erp system
zasz
cool
i'm a new oracle guy
started in oct
going through the 10g manuals right now
read concepts, just finished the admin manual
dsdel
hehe i'm not even through them and doing that for 9 years :D
zasz
well on chap 32 on the admin manual, two chaps left
it's a big one
dsdel
ye I know :)
zasz
lol
dsdel
but I'm prefering the oracle partner teachings :D
zasz
going to do the getting started with recovery manual now
dsdel
ah rman ftw! :D
zasz
then i guess it's performance tuning
dsdel
really never seen such a good backup util
zasz
and then the utilities guide
the app dev
lots of books :/
dsdel
c ya in 10 years!
:D
PocketKnives
lol
dsdel
and don't forget to re-read then everything for 11g
zasz
i've been getting through about 1 book a month
oh i could't
dsdel
when you've finished it you can start with 12!
zasz
ill probably focus on the new features guide for 11g
dsdel
so they changed the CBS in 11g again
zasz
then 11g r2
dsdel
you come from feature to low-level...
zasz
11g R2 has a lot of new stuff
brand new installer too
dsdel
because you need to understand the change to the CBS and that one isn' completly documented in the new features guide
ah installer, just start and click :D
either it works or not =)
zasz
it generates fixups scripts now
like if you missed a pre req
dsdel
i'm mostly using installer-response file for installation
and it's equal to me if the installer is in opinion that i'm lacking a requirement =)
vmnew
Using Oracle 10G with (still) IAS 9 (oracle HTTP server). I remember that. in regarding to license, while I have a license for Oracle 9, I can upgrade to 10, once it is expired (if I havent upgraded), I cannot upgrade, unless I buy a new 10G licese. Is this the same with Oracle HTTP Server?
dsdel
a dba needs to know the server where he is installing a database - if not also an installer can't help him
vmnew: sorry I only now db - but you buy oracle db then you have the license - you can only upgrade without any additional fee if you have a maintenance contract, if not you have to rebuy the complete license count
zasz
i haven't tested out installer response files et, i need to though
dsdel
vmnew: the best would perhaps to contact the oracle sales team of your country - it's mostly much faster than asking through and you have an answer directly from the vendor not form some guys in chat which can be false
vmnew
yeah
zasz
we use the actual gui installer because requirements differ for every customer
Oracle-
I just finished installing oracle in fedora; but can not start working with oracle how do i should start him?
DiscordianUK
well using Bold text like that on IRC makes me unwilling to help you
Junior
yello ;)

Hi guys
There are two tables with similar structure. It's very strange that the query "select * from table1 where rownum <10" runs 200 times longer than "select * from table2 where rownum <10". But explain plans for these queries seem identical.
I traced the queries and used tkprof for trace-files formatting. There are much more "disk" and "query" for the first query than for the second one. Could anyone explain why so?
Explain plans say that full table scans are used in both cases.

Hello
http://pastebin.fr/6373
I have a problem installing Oracle 11gR2 in silent mode : http://pastebin.fr/6373
Okay, what about this error, when trying to run dbca in silent mode : ORACLE_HOSTNAME
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/lib/libnjni11.so: libclntsh.so.11.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Hello ?
Xgc
tstebut: Installation issue. You probably didn't satisfy the prerequisite list.
tstebut
OK, I used 32bit verzion, but have a 64bit CPU
but now that I try to install, I get The chosen installation conflicted with software already installed in the given Oracle home.
does it matter, if I install the 32bit bersion on 64bit CPU ?
now I see :
lsnrctl: error while loading shared libraries: /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied

TheBonsai: I want to get rid of it
TheBonsai

PURGE RECYCLEBIN; -- guess...
awaad
TheBonsai: I found it removed already !!!
TheBonsai: Do you know why ?
usn
maybe the db needed space in the tablespace
