dagnachew

Dormir, even the scripts in the wiki will take longtime
Dormir

dagnachew
I just want to be sure that this time it will install because I waited 2 hours and more with openjdk6 and know I restarted dbca 1hour30 min ago with jre installed ....

knandan
Hi All..
Is there a user friendly and light weight GUI client for Oracle ??
Xgc
knandan: Yes.
knandan: Look for instant client.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html
knandan
Xgc: Thanks..
there seem to be many..which one should i use?
i only need to insert, delete alter rows in the DB tables...
Xgc
Pick the one appropriate for the system you're using.
knandan
Xgc: lets say, if i download sqlplus, do, i need to install something else too on my local machine?
I just want to provide, username, password and able to connect
Xgc
knandan: sqlplus (found in the instant client package) can connect to your database with instant client.
knandan
i downloaded sqlplus...but it doesnt seem to work..
when i click on the exe file, i get an error..
Xgc
knandan: "Doesn't work" isn't very helpful.
knandan: The instant client package comes with sqlplus. Don't download it separately.
knandan
i just downloaded sqlplus..
nothing else..
Xgc
knandan: That's the problem. Read the docs more closely.
See: "Installation Instructions"
"All installations REQUIRE ..."
knandan
ok..
its written at the bottom..
thanks Xgc...:-)..
let me try again..
Xgc..there are 2 basic packages...the 2nd one is the smappler version..
will that do..
smappler-> smaller
Xgc
knandan: If you only care about english and UNICODE ascii.
knandan
yup...only english and unicode are enough for me..
Xgc
The larger one handles more languages and character sets.
knandan
Xgc: Thanks for this...i will download the smaller one..i just need english and unicode..and my db is really quite small and simple one
:-)
do i need to install the basic and instant client packages separately..?

dagnachew
hi all
dear lord dbca is taking forever
am stuck at 89 % for know more than 2 hours , I use jre
oh lord any one here ?
Xgc
knandan: Start with basic (Lite) and go from there. You'll probably need to download the sqlplus package separately.
dagnachew
Xgc, can you help me ?
Xgc
dagnachew: You probably did something wrong; didn't follow instructions, didn't satisfy requirements; didn't wait long enough; etc.
zomo
hey all
dagnachew
am waiting
I have all the sysctl stuff and limits stuff
Xgc
dagnachew: ... didn't provide enough detail in your description, etc.
dagnachew
Xgc, I installed oracle fine , changed sys password etc
Xgc
dagnachew: "stuck at 89%" isn't too helpful. It's possible you just don't have enough information for anyone here to help you without hand-holding you through the entire process.
dagnachew
but dbca is taking for ever , someone told me to use jre
that's what I did
Xgc, I tired to read the log file but it's not yet created
Xgc
dagnachew: There could be a failure in dbca and you're not seeing it. The "stuck" behavior is what happens if the underlying app fails during installation. You might not be notified at all.
dagnachew
Xgc, I am following this wiki http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Oracle#Post_Installation
knandan1
Hi
dagnachew
Xgc, since I have setup lvm on install I use the file system ? or I specify Raw device mapping file ?
zasz
just reading up on distributed database authentication in Oracle... if I wanted an Oracle solution for centralized authentication to my DBs would I use Oracle Internet Directory?
knandan1

dagnachew: http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=318757
dagnachew: http://bytes.com/topic/oracle/answers/64620-database-not-open-rookie
dagnachew
Xgc, I have already connected to sql plus and changed sys passw
I will try the first option
defaultr0
Good morning folks, I am a bit confused finding the download for Unbreakable Linux. What I found is "Enterprise Linux Release 5 Update 4 for x86_64 (64 Bit) - CD 1 of 6" but the word Update confuses me
dagnachew
Xgc, SQL> select status from v$instance;
STATUS
------------
OPEN
SQL> alter database open;
alter database open
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01531: a database already open by the instance
Xgc
dagnachew: Sure. Later it closes. There should be evidence of why it closes.
dagnachew
Xgc, but I am always stuck at 89 %
please anyone any help ?
Xgc, i run dbca as user oracle
should I run it as root ?
Dormir, you there ?
defaultr0
can someone please help me find the rpm version of oracle
dagnachew
Xgc, my tracelog http://www.pastebin.ca/1728634
scizzo-
what is the best way to actually get the current working schema that the user is using?
is it really the whole syscontext things or can it be easier done
dagnachew
Xgc, are you there ?
Discordian
defaultr0, look for Oracle-XE there is an RPm for that
works on Fedora or CentOS
dagnachew
Discordian, can you help me ?
Discordian
Run dbca as oracle
dagnachew
Discordian, thats's what I did know for the 5th time waiting each time 2 hours because I was stuck at 89 % every time
scizzo-
!schema
dagnachew
Discordian, my tracelog http://www.pastebin.ca/1728634
Xgc
scizzo-: SELECT * FROM v$session;
Discordian
That tells me nothing, I'm not an Oracle Guru I'm afraid, dagnachew
dagnachew
ok
scizzo-
Xgc: that gives a whole lot of information
Xgc
scizzo-: You'll see the schema information in that result.
dagnachew
Xgc, did you see my trace.log ?
Xgc, my tracelog http://www.pastebin.ca/1728634
mnn
Anyone here?
dagnachew
please anyone
Xgc, I think it's continiuing the install beacuse trace.log the last line was EMConfig thread to finish and know it's Starting Reader Thread... so sorry for the disturbance
Xgc, you there
it makes sense my reasoning ?
Xgc, I think it's continiuing the install beacuse trace.log the last line was EMConfig thread to finish and know it's Starting Reader Thread...

hello windsok

my advice would be to generate the scripts fromdbca
and run them manually
dagnachew
ok
hey ya
am still stuk at 89 % and this emConfig.log CONFIG: Starting execution: /data/oracle11g/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/orarch/bin/PARDeploy -action deploy -parFile /data/oracle11g/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/orarch/sysman/prov/paf/pa.par -force

DiscordianUK, altought I have a ticket for nba all star game given in gift
in this ticket worth the remiaing 11 % install finish ?
DiscordianUK
heh I'm not a guru I'm totally unsure what your log shows
I did look to see if I could help but I can't
dagnachew
ok
what about the others
I guess their working on their mission critical db worth $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
bin/PARDeploy
seems to be the culprit
Xoke
got an oracle sql question. I want to pull info from a table (a few actually) where the data may not exist. I want to return blank lines where they don't (to tie in with a spreadsheet)
e.g. select (some columns) from (list of numbers) left outer join (some other tables)
I can do everything else except for the (list of numbers) bit and can't figure it out
Xgc
Xoke: What table does "list of numbes" represent?
numbers
Xoke
Xgc, someone sent me a spreadsheet and wants info from the database. Now not all of the numbers are in the database
so I want to pull back the data listing all of the numbers, not just the ones that exist
Xgc
Xoke: Ah. You probably don't want that.
Xoke
e.g. say the numbers are 1, 2 and 3. Now the database has 1 and 3 in there but not 2
so if I do a select * where number in (1,2,3) I get 1 and 3 back
Xgc
Xoke: These are probably generated auto_increment or sequence numbers, correct?
Xoke
product numbers actually, but close :)
Xgc
Xoke: Don't you have a product table?
Xoke
yes, but it appears to be missing some...
Xgc
Xoke: What does a missing product look like?
Xoke
trying to find their physical location, so it would have a bin number
Xgc
Xoke: I bet they just don't exist. There's probably no reason to show them.
If they don't existing in the database, they don't exist. If you really want them, insert them into the product table first.
Xoke
I want to show them so I can easily export the data to the excel spreadsheet
afk a moment
dagnachew
Xgc, can you help me with this ParaDeploy
(Action) willing to give his nba all star game ticket 2010
Xoke
Xgc, well I think I will take the easy road and get them to add the products, cheers :)
dagnachew
Xgc, CONFIG: Starting execution: /data/oracle11g/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/orarch/bin/PARDeploy -action deploy -parFile /data/oracle11g/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/orarch/sysman/prov/paf/pa.par -force
Xgc
Xoke: The other approach is to create a fake product numbers table, just to JOIN with.
dagnachew
Xoke, may I disturb you ?
Xoke
dagnachew, sure
Xgc, can I do that on the fly though?
dagnachew
Xoke, please help me
