hi
whats the limited of oracle xe?
is there somebody know?
TheBonsai
no idea, but it should be mentioned on oracle.com?
quhan
thanks same to you
TheBonsai
quhan: ?!
quhan
??
TheBonsai
"same to you" - what is "same"?

quhan
i mean "thanks all the same"
sorry

djeday
=)))
TheBonsai
*hehe
djeday
sorry )
xe limitation is the size of db . max 4gb
TheBonsai
and usage of CPU and maybe memory
usn
good afternoon
djeday
also select * from v$options; // almost all func is false
TheBonsai
i never looked at XE, so i don't really know
usn: did you?
usn
yes
TheBonsai
<quhan> whats the limited of oracle xe?
usn
4GB DB size, 1GB of RAM used, 1 CPU used
DB size is all and everything: Dictionary, etc.
quhan
thanks
usn
about 3GB of user data possible
np
quhan
one user has 4gb?
usn
the installation
and it installs one single time per system
quhan
or all user in the machine
usn
$GB/1GB/1CPU per installation
and it installs one single time per system
TheBonsai
quhan: the database is limited to 4G

quhan
is one database limited to 4g?
usn
"the sum of all data in the DB", means all user schemas added
You can't have more than one DB on the machine
and "database" in Oracle means something different than in MSSQL or MySQL
TheBonsai
quhan: don't mix up database and schema
usn
what you know as Database is a schema in Oracle
The Database is anything mass data on storage in oracle
quhan
thanks
And I can download oracle 11g from oracle.com
TheBonsai
don't forget to license it :)
quhan
it must be multi-user
TheBonsai
XE *is* multi user
usn
One Oracle database can have multiple schemas, and each schema is the user's objects
quhan
where is the table?
under the schemas?
usn
within the schema
you have a schema
I have a schema
quhan
thanks
usn
we are both in the same database
quhan
database is limited 4g
usn
and because we are in different schemas, out tables can have the same name (a schema is a "namespace")
yes
add up your objects and mine, and don#t come over 4GB
quhan
I m a newbie, thank you very much
usn
no problem
quhan
oracle's database = mysql's host
oracle's schemas = mysql's database
usn
don't know that MySQL terms
TheBonsai
quhan: mh, maybe more "MySQL server's root directory" if such a thing exists
(a database)
usn
"What's the major problem of people coming from MySQL to Oracle?" - "They have to learn to cope with consistent data..."
TheBonsai
without XE, you can of course have multiple databases/instances per host, so the term "host" is misleading here
usn
It means, your fun starts after installing it ;)
quhan
mmh..
i know
merry Xmas
TheBonsai
crossmas?
djeday
^_^
quhan
christmas

re
ppl, does anyone know how to give execute grant on dbms_crypto, if I has system password only?
sql*loader guru wanted
I have simple table: id, a, b
I need fill this table with a list of one value, i.e: 'one', 'two', 'three', ...
mamurdian
how do i c which is the primary key of a table?
[RaD]
I can fill 'id' with sequence, but i need to push 'one' to both 'a'&'b' field and so on
boundfiller doesn't help
id is pk, it's obviously
does anyone know how to give execute grant on dbms_crypto, if I has system password only?
it is important question too
is it possible at all?
no gurus :)
does anyone know how to give execute grant on dbms_crypto, if I has system password only?
usn
a user has to be granted admin role on foreign packages to grant them himself
if your sys can do that to system, you are safe
[RaD]
i guess, our admins don't have sys password at all
it is a government organization
usn
mh
basic granting is only allowed for the owner of the object
[RaD]
usn, do I understand you right: sys has to grant admin role on system?
usn
it has to grant EXECUTE ON <PACKAGE> WITH ADMIN ROLE or something like that
[RaD]
then system can grant execute on dbms_crypto to any user
usn
yes
[RaD]
thank you
usn
np
[RaD]
next question :)
can I fill two field with one value with sql*loader?
if yes, what thing I need to pay attention to?
usn
I have a look
what version are you talking about?
[RaD]
11g
http://dpaste.com/137368/ - here is what I've tried
we use sql*loader a lot in our patching system, so I local loader guru, but this task killed me :)
usn
[RaD], is this something you need? http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Comp/comp.databases.oracle.tools/2006-05/msg00105.html
[RaD]
yep, wonderful!
usn
google is our friend ;)
[RaD]
it hates me
usn
hehe
[RaD]
