>i have to create a table PLayedBy(macth_id,Clan_id) both match_id and Clan_id is primary key. so how can i define them with oracle
or they r not primary key.. its a relation's table
is it possible to have more than one primary key in a table?
Dormir
more than one primary key? no
more than one column in a primary key? yes
Lindsea
ok i solved that
i have a big problem now .. but can be solved
i'm at home (desktop) i need to show my database at schools PC . how cani import my database . i'll send it to my school PC
please help (urgent)
DiscordianUK
Errr you want us to do your homework for you? No can do sorry
Lindsea
oh ... no
i just did it at homr
home*
i just want to save it . no other question . really
DiscordianUK
export it using exp, then copy it, then import using imp
Lindsea
can u explain as : administration> storage >... // something like this
i couldnt find it thats why i ask
DiscordianUK
What OS is that?
Lindsea
w7 / oracle 10g

DiscordianUK
No idea about Windows 7 sorry
Lindsea
but its on IE http://127.0.0.1:8080/
DiscordianUK
I use Linux/Unix
Lindsea
its not oracle actually . i'm at its interface "
DiscordianUK
you just said 10g
Dormir
she's talking about DBConsole
DiscordianUK
I use the command line tools
Dormir
I believe
Lindsea
hmm actually on top its written : ORACLE Database Express Edition
I opened it by clicking Go to The Database Homepage
DiscordianUK
Oh that's application express?
I guess data unload then data load on the remote pc
Lindsea

DiscordianUK
Utilities->Data Unload/Load
I think
Lindsea
unload will not delete all things right? :)
i guess its export
DiscordianUK
It creates a csv or txt file with a table dump it seems
Windows Oracle-XE has an exp utility to export a database/table etc
Lindsea
oh, do i have to take all tables one by one ? i was expecting just a save or export like a doc file :/
DiscordianUK
Exp will do that
Lindsea
so where it is
seems i cant solve it . its a bit late here . gn all ;)
thanks for help and attention
DiscordianUK
good night, good luck

greetings gentlemen
i've just set up an instance on a 10gR2 ,and i would need to duplicate it on the same server (1 for production, 1 for tests, 1 for learning purpose) , is it possible with RMAN ?
TheBonsai
yes, backup, restore
google for it, there are whitepapers
you need a second instance, some data space, a controlfile copy, a backup set, filename conversion parameters (to restore the backup to "new" filenames/pathnames)
that's round about all
similar to a standby deploy, just ... without standby
sidh
thanks TheBonsai , i found this http://www.shutdownabort.com/quickguides/clone_rman.php that might be helpful
usn_work
good afternoon
TheBonsai
sidh: yea. there are many ways, the basic stuff is always the same (just tools or features of tools change a bit)

Hello guys.
usn_work
hello guy
jacovt
I have a question that is driving me insane. I do a VERY basic query (ie. SELECT column FROM table WHERE column=value). I get a result back inside my client, but the JDBC driver also receives back a ORA-01403: no data found from the server. Is this normal ?
usn_work: ;)
Stuff that I use: SQuirrel SQL client, JDBC Thin driver 10.2.0.1, ORA 10.2.0.1 on AIX.
usn_work
~> oerr ora 1403
01403, 00000, "no data found"
/ *Cause: No data was found from the objects.
/ *Action: There was no data from the objects which may be due to end of fetch.
something seem to have broken the connection
jacovt
usn_work: Yeah, but, the fact is that I actually GET the data back.
usn_work: Hold, let me show you a network trace...
usn_work
maybe there has been all data in the scan, but the server process did not come to a defined end.
so oracle does not for sure whether these data have been all or not
jacovt
usn_work: http://pastie.org/751820
usn_work: Ah. But I take it that is not normal ?
usn_work
can you see who terminated the connection?
jacovt
usn_work: Hmm. Hold. Will have to do a tcpdump for that.
usn_work
should be the one that did send a RST flagged packet
jacovt
usn_work: Here is the whole analysis of the 6 packets that were transmitted during the query: http://pastie.org/751820
I unfortunately do not have another instance of oracle on a different machine to verify if I always get the ORA-01403.
But I ALWAYS get that error message at the end connecting to that specific AIX cluster, whether the query returns data or not.
So, basically I just wanted to know if it is normal or not. (I dont think it is.)
mator
jacovt, you should try to correct tcp Checksum errors
jacovt
mator: Yeah. Bit beyond my control. :P I do development, not networking. :D Wonder if this might attribute to it though...
mator
well, i just read http://www.ethereal.com/faq.html#q11.1 , seems like checksum errors can happen
jacovt
Yeah, that is probably the cause...
usn_work, mator: Any of you guys use a JDBC driver to access oracle ?
mator
not me, but i can make a test :)
jacovt
mator: Hehe. Well, basically I just want to see the network trace when you make an extremely simple query to a table and the results are returned to your client. I want to see if the ORA-01403 is ALWAYS present, or just on my side. I only have access to Oracle 10.2.0.1 installed on AIX. Would like to see Solaris, or Linux (even windows) output.
(simple ngrep port 1521 should work)
mastro
how do I load a sequence number i created in the database from sql loader?
mator
jacovt, what ngrep pattern ? :)
jacovt, http://www.pastebin.cz/28788
mator host is x86_64 linux, and ora host is a sun sparc machine running solaris 10 and oracle 10g
seems like ORA-01403 is always present, or we don't set some jdbc flag, *lol*
cmug
erm, anybody know why I get ORA-06502 when I create a AWR report from the past 4 hours?
jacovt
mator: heh. OK. Thanks. So its not just me... :)
mastro
anyone know how to make sql loader load use a sequence to populate one of the column? the sequence/trigger have already been created
Dormir
mastro: Check the docs at docs.oracle.com
jacovt
mator, usn_work: thanks for the time guys. :) Appreciate it.
Dormir
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/ldr_field_list.htm#sthref1274 is one way;
mastro
Dormir, can't find the info i was looking for there.. but i figured out myself :) after creating the sequence and the trigger you can omit the column and it will be automatically populated by the sequence/trigger
phimic
hi all
has the import "imp" statement an option so that no archlogs will be written?
i have a huge dmp-file and when i try to import it i get a full ASM
usn_work
phimic, NOLOGGING? No, and no direct path imp as well
mator
(Action) is planning veritas cluster server upgrade : 4.1 -> 5.0mp3
phimic
usn_work: hi
usn_work: is this a documented feature? imp HELP=Y dont say that
Dormir
put the db into noarchivelog mode
phimic
thanks Domir
sidh
i've made a migration from sqlserver to oracle 11G, now i set up the intranet app to query the database through odbc connector, i realize all accentuated char are displayed with a ?
do you know how to fix that ?
usn_work
did you choose the same charset for the oracle db as the sqlserver had?
How did you transport the data?
sidh
usn_work: i used offline capture with sqldeveloper
that is not me that create the instance on oracle
so the NLS_LANG is AL32UTF8 iirc
on oracle sird
side
usn_work: and i used sqlldr script to load the data
usn_work: i confirm , select * from NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS, i get AL32UTF8
usn_work
mh
maybe you want to check the NLS environment of the session you use for the loader
sidh
my oracle_ctl.sh has AL32UTF8 too
Lindsea
i have a GAMER and it has a CLAN. I want to check this :the gamers join_date to the clan can never be older than the date that clan established.
how can i do this?
none knows?
hali
on insert?
and/or update?
a check constraint making sure that join_Date < to_date('2005-01-01','YYYY-MM-DD')
would do that
Lindsea
i'm new to oracle, so i'll create a new constraint (a new check)?
is it like that? if it is what do i need to write in Constraint Expression?
hali
yes, you just write a single alter table add constraint statement
Lindsea
can u give an example ? i never write it before . actually tutor didnt want triggers or checks, said tables are ok . just do that. but i wanna learn this too
Dormir
can a check constraint refresnce another column?
Lindsea
thats what i want actually
dunno
