hi, I'm looking for some assistance in setting up a Oracle 9i database server (on Windows XP) to accept connections (eg using ODBC) from another server
do i have to configure a new listerner, or just edit tnsnames.ora

hi all
i have installed oracle rac 10.2.0.3 on SLES-10, clusterware is running fine
now i would like to setup ASM with dbca but i get an error on the second node http://pastebin.com/d39e4123d
TheBonsai
beside all that, use 11.2 clusterware+asm, or at least minimum 10.2.0.4+latest PSU

Thank you for uploading the files but unfortunately the AWR reports are covering different time periods and far from the limited 60 min.
CURSE YOU!
damn oracle support

phimic: so it was a half/half status nobody didn't really know (especially CRS) or so?

Hello.
I want to ask for help..
I have Oracle AS 10g with two portals (2 DADs).
One Apache serves it..
And I need to have different language in each of these portals. EN in the first one, CZ in the second one.
Now, both portals are in CZ. I need to switch one of them to english (because of a bug in export discoverer reports into Excel in CZ localization).
Is it possible? I look for the answer for 2 days with no luck :(

i have a productive and a test rac and want to have exactly the same databases
is it enough to check the parameters of the database instance with "show parameters ;" and setup that on the test cluster? is there an easyway to copy the configuration from the producive to the test environment?
stafra
Hi phimic. Use: "create pfile from spfile;", check the exported pfile (your db configuration).. You can transfer it and on test environment use: "crepte spfile from pfile;"

Hi there. Is there any way to get oracle to dump the data from a table in a text format that resembles SQL? (Like mysqldump for mysql) Something that I can store in svn, and read in with e.g. sqlplus.
stafra
Hello. Try to connect using SQLDeveloper - there is option to dump like that..
madsdyd
stafra, thanks, will try
(Action) was looking for a command line utility though
phimic
stafra: thank you i will try this
stafra
phimic: you are welcome :)
milan
i think the whole MV rewrite concept is logically flawed and does cope well with the CBO
there, i feel a release now that i said it
phimic
stafra: why does have "show parameters" much more variables than the created pfile?
stafra
Because in created pfile are only non-default variables (I think)..
phimic
stafra: i did a ALTER SYSTEM SET log_archive_dest_1='location=+DATA/CLIX/ARCHLOGS/' scope=spfile sid='rac1,rac2' ;
but show parameters returns the old values
stafra
phimic: try to restart the instance

i have the following issue: I have a table named "Product" and a table named "LotNo". Without a pivot, is there any other option to have on a single line the joins between this 2 tables ?

stafra
Junior: what kind of join do you need?
Junior
stafra for ex... select name, lotno from product inner join lotno on () ...
if there are several lotnos, i want them displyed on a single line
if i do the iiner join i will have multiple lines
thought at a pivot table, but i don't know how many lotnos i have
stafra
Aha. Try to google some informations about "oracle group concat"..
Junior
stafra i can use pivot
but i don't know how many records i have
this is not the same issue, but what i've used before : http://pastebin.com/m3f4de4d8
stafra
yes, group concat solves this issue..

Junior
no other solution?
i don't know how many records i will have in the "lotNo" table
and also i will have lotno/exp.date and several other data that i will take from the second table

I'm a relative newbie to data guard. Haven't used it for several years since 8i. I have a question about logical standby. Is it possible for the standby db to have a smaller undo tablespace than the primary? If so what happens if a large transaction succeeds on the primary but fails on the standby because undo is too small?
Also what actually gets shipped from primary to standby in a logical standby? The redo log or just the SQL?
TheBonsai
the SQL
REDO transport is phys. standby
which means it's an 1:1 mirror of the database
a logical standby can look very different physically
chuckh1958
What about my 1st question? Can the standby have a smaller undo and therefor fail to apply transactions that succeeded on the primary?
Not saying I would set it up that way, just asking if it's possible.
I've been reading the docs and they are not very clear on these questions. Like the physical v. logical question. The docs seem to inficate that redo logs are shipped to the standby and then converted to SQL for SQL Apply operations. (section 1.2.2 of 10g DG concepts and administration)
To me that would defeat one of the main purposes of logical standby.
TheBonsai
i'd say it's possible, but nonsense. but i never setup a log. stby
chuckh1958
nonsense I guess if it never happens to you. :). I'm just considering all options for standby.
TheBonsai
why logical, by the way?
chuckh1958
Up to the moment data is available on the standby where I can run reports against it. I don't have to wait for the next log switch to get caught up.
TheBonsai
RT apply exists. the primary writes directly into the standby redos
which are recovered
chuckh1958
TheBonsai: but if it's a physical standby it's not open, right? And I can't be running queries against the data.
TheBonsai
ALTER DATABASE OPEN READONLY; ;)
chuckh1958
And it can still be applying logs?
TheBonsai
pre-11 that interrupts the redo apply
in 11, it works
chuckh1958
I forgot to mention I'm on 10g
TheBonsai
then you'd have to open RO, do your queries, and go back to MOUNT with recovery
if that doesn't fit your needs, a logical standby is needed, yes
delfis
hello, i have table users and table friends(id, first_user, second_user)
how to count how many friends have each user?
sorry, not this channel :)
