Looking for a select statement to return rows where values fall between a pair of characters. eg. Select * From Customer Where name between 'A' AND 'E'. Only problem is that the customer names with E won't return. Anyone has a suggestion?
Dormir
try comparing the first character of name
Myish
Thats what I was trying in that statement
Dormir
no, you were comparing it to name, not to the first character of name
Myish
Gotcha, using substring to grab first char, thanks!

Hola
infl
hi all
how can I stop shutdown immediate in windows?
or I cant?
brig
shutdown immediate
TheBonsai
why do you want to stop it?
infl
I think oracle is hang
shutdown is too late
mator
sql> shutdown shutdown immediate abort ?
(Action) %)
TheBonsai
check your alert log if it initiated the shutdown
if yes, most likely it rolls back transactions
if this is too long for you, you can try to abort the instance, though the rollback will continue after next startup, of course
but since it's a windows and not a unix... maybe it's hung, yes. hehe
mator
:-D
TheBonsai
you can double check if it does IO and uses CPU and so on, but most likely it rolls back
there's also a V$ you can check for rollback, i just don't remember the name (and i don't know if it would work in shutdown status)
danielIL
just abort it
on shutdown it waits for jobs to rollback
infl
ORA-01089: immediate shutdown in progress - no operations are permitted
I cant connect to the oracle
TheBonsai
logon as sys with sysdba
locally
not via network
infl
oh well, shutdown abort is help
i havent free space in the hdd,so I think it was a reason
maybe)
sorry for my english
spheniscus
morning all
anyone here used the data modeler in sql developer ? looking thru the docs im confused whether there is a 3rd party add on or full functionality is for free
Franek_K1mono
how are you gentleman :)
mator
hello
danielIL
hello
MaL0
hi
does somebody know's if oas 10.1.3.4 supports jdk 6 ?
azi_
hm.. what is the simplest way to acess a oracle DB through a linux machine. I ws given an account for an oracle DB and would like to connect to it
DiscordianUK
simplest , source oraenv.sh set the SID etc
and then use sqlplus

azi_
oraenv?
DiscordianUK
Yes
azi_
sorry, what is that?
DiscordianUK
is Oracle on the linux box you're on?
azi_
no
DiscordianUK
ahhh what OS are you running?
azi_
ubuntu
DiscordianUK
Do you have oracle-instantclient installed on that machine?
azi_
no. should I install it?
MaL0
yes ;)
azi_
and then?
MaL0
sqlplus user/pass@identifier
azi_
ok
mastro
how do I make my weblogic servers load the new deployment version when they get started? If I don't update the deploy when they are running they doesn't update their "stage" version
and if I try to update the deployment while the servers are down it give an error saying there is no online server to update...
thanks for any help
TheBonsai
infl: i'm still convinced it rolled back
infl: HD full isn't directly a reason to hang without any message. this isn't mysql
hali
hm, oracle has changed the SIG so that DR / standby servers must be fullu licensed even if storage level replication is used :/
ok, kicked up a fuss with Oracle
our sales rep just sent me an email saying "In regards to DR environment i can confirm you wont need to license the DR."
fu*ker
cmug
oracle and the joy of licenses
hali
nightmare
cmug
as with any big company
usn_work
good afternoon
cmug
I love datapump, remap_*
hali
yeah, it's pretty usefull
all our clients use custom tbs'
cmug
and its so bloody fast too
my remap is almost finished, with traditional method I would have just created the indexfile perhaps
TheBonsai
currently i'm importing a 100GB export (6 files, parallel=6) with table_exists_action=truncate and content=data_only
runs for 24h now
"pump"
:)
cmug
:)
I fiddle with less crap
TheBonsai
(it's still at the truncate phase... many tables with ~1000 partitions)
nighter
1
cmug
grrr, except when my tablespace becomes 100% full
with 2GB files, oh my
hali
TheBonsai: sounds very overkill for just a 100Gb database
people love partitions for some reason
mastro: if you run in development mode you can drop the ear in the autodeploy directory and get an uncontrolled deployment
mastro: or you can script the deployment in wlst
TheBonsai
hali: well, it's not that flexible..
hali: it's a testsystem for a warehouse environment. the datapump behaves weird, it started one worker and truncates the partitioned tables since... a day
it didn't import one bit of rowdata for now
hali
ok
TheBonsai
really weird. i first thought it's stuck, but then i dug a bit into the wait events
next time i'll try to make another export, more spread and separated
cmug
errrr I spoke too soon, my impdp just stopped to a ORA-39125
ORA-39125: Worker unexpected fatal error in KUPW$WORKER.PUT_DDLS while calling DBMS_METADATA.CONVERT []
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error
TheBonsai
i had alot of dp trouble, but not this :)
hali
i've seen some bad sh*t in dp
like corrupting a CTX indexed column
not the index, but the column itself!
DiscordianUK
errk
cmug
Larry give me strenght..
TheBonsai
ouch
hali
expdp/impdp with the index -> corrupt data, but if you drop the index and expdp/impdp and rebuild the index... it works
rebuilding index doesn't help, the column itself is borked
usn_work
I'm always excluding indexes, at least for the import
TheBonsai
sounds like a typical 10.x bug heh
nobody really knows why, but it's b0rked
cmug
I'm rerunning with exclude=index
same error, hmm
nothing in alert log
mastro
hali, tnx! will drop/install it until i had the time to document myself on the wlst scripting
hali
i cant say it's great :)
but gets the job done
jython mix syntax

jython,, is it something like PERL/SQL? ;)

phimic
usn_work: hi
usn_work: you habe oracle 11 running on a vmware esx environment, right?
usn_work
hi phimic - yes
phimic
usn_work: are you using ASM on raw paritions on a shared vmdk?
usn_work
I'm using direktly mapped LUNs
but htere's a way to change the VMDK to make it shareable
phimic
usn_work: yes i know i have no more free luns on our storage so i decide to use the shared vmdk solution but i have a locking problem http://communities.vmware.com/thread/164967
usn_work
That's what I am talking about
shared VMDKs are not everything. There's a way to solve that, but I don't know it by heart
only a little twaking in the vmdk header parameters
http://www.databasejournal.com/features/oracle/article.php/3686461/Oracle-RAC-How-shared-storage-works-on-VMware--Part-1.htm
phimic
usn_work: thank you for the link i will take a look
usn_work

brutuz
i have a question.. if i have a column with data type number and i wanted to show the upto to decimal..
and just showing 0 if its zero not .00
how do i do that?
im using to_char.. but if its zero it show .00
phimic
usn_work: disk.locking=false is not enough for me
cmug
can I abort a import without rolling back?
kill the session maybe
usn_work
this will rollback
hali
imp or datapump?
usn_work
it will always rollback
cmug
imp
hali
yeah
cmug
i hit control-c and its taking forever
hali
rollback etc
cmug
i'm gonna clean it up anyway
ok i'll just need to wait then
usn_work
crashing the instance will rollback as well
hali
it should have "just f*cking give up"-mode
cmug
yeah but I don't want to crash it
nice, OEM shows me the estimated time to rollback
21mins..
Techdeck
how do I return a random result from a query? a.k.a I have a table with 10 items, I want to return only 1 random result out of those 10
hali
select * from (select ..... ORDER BY dbms_random.value) where rownum=1;
Techdeck
thanks buddy
I don't suppose you know by any chance how to do that with hibernate?
mfilipe
how do I do to select a schema in oracle? I want something like 'use SCHEMA' of MySQL.
usn_work
a schema in oracle is a "Database" in MySQL
mfilipe
I know, but I want work with PCCLIENT table that is in FRIOPECA schema
Can I only use schema.table?
usn_work
yes, but you may need a GRANT to select the data from other schema
e.g. GRANT SELECT on PCCLIENT to MFILIPE
Techdeck
SELECT * FROM t_user_media WHERE id in (SELECT user_media_id FROM t_playlist_content WHERE playlist_id = 115 ORDER by dbms_random.values); -- what's wrong with that query? I get: 'missing right parenthesis'
usn_work
does the inline view alone work?
Techdeck
nvm, I see the problem, thanks!
oh wait, no, there was a problem, but that wasn't what was causing it
hmm, the inline query runs fine
SELECT * FROM t_user_media WHERE id in (SELECT user_media_id FROM t_playlist_content WHERE playlist_id = 115 ORDER by dbms_random.value);
this is the "correct" one
usn_work
how much lines does the inline view deliver?
Techdeck
5
is the 'IN' incorrect?
I can think of another way to build that query but why doesnt this work?
I can also do: SELECT * FROM (SELECT t1.* FROM t_user_media t1, t_playlist_content t2 WHERE t2.playlist_id = 115 AND t1.id = t2.user_media_id ORDER by dbms_random.value) WHERE rownum = 1;
I guess
ok thats what I'll do, thanks
cmug
my dump file is 3.5GB and its taking an hour to import..
usn_work
what about parallel workers?
cmug
maybe next time..
an hour is not even enough tbh
Franek_K1mono
co jest co jest
uoooh, sorry, -ENOTTHISCHAN
TomJ
is OCI a compressed protocol?
or to put it another way, anyone know if it benefits much from being run over a compressed SSH tunnel?
danielIL
oci isn't compressed AFAIK .. I'd check the ssh tunnel just to see how much I would benefit from it
