Guys.
I am wanting to model some data and I want to work out the probability of result Y being driven by X. I have come to three algorithms which I think will be useful. Bayesian Network, Retes Network and Markov Network.
The Bayesian is great but requires to much information to be known before it is ran. Retes resolves this by allowing less inputs but makes the over accuracy marginally less and the Markov Network is to strict like the Bayesian BUT calculates cyclic dependencies better.
Is that a fair synopsis?

Is there a way to tell expdp not to do an estimate? In many cases I find the estimate takes much longer than the actual dump.
I am using 10gR2

hi all
i've installed oracle on my linux system ! ... but i would like to know how to use it !
for mysql,i use phpmyadmin for example
or commands from the console !
how can i do for oracle ?
DiscordianUK
I suggest using tora - toolkit for oracle, which is available for linux
FANDER
don't you wish guys that wikipedia can be zipped to your mind?!
paissad-hp
i found this script to add for the configuration of oracle before the installation !
paissad@paissad-server:~$ pastebinit -i /etc/sysctl.d/oracle.conf
http://pastebin.com/f6075dd27
i would like to know if the variable kernel shmax is correct ... i added it manually
it's in french, but here is the tutorial i followed !
http://howto.landure.fr/gnu-linux/debian-4-0-etch/installer-un-serveur-oracle-sur-debian-5-0-lenny
you can just look for commands !
EFFINBUCKS
cool
pay not attention to that above statement just testing
and that one
oh and that one
crap and that one and this one too
echo
Frankiedog
anyone up for a question?
qnix
If I cache a statement, and that statement have been executed one time, does the cache will keep all results when cachefree will be called?

hi
phimic
hi all
i have a little strange behaviour with my RAC
the emctl says the database is not available but srvctl status database -d DB says it is up on both nodes
usn_work: good morning
do you have an idea for that error http://pastebin.com/d1fc7aed2
mahal
phimic could you post last 20 lines of alert log
?
usn_work
Best regards from DOAG Conference 2009
http://www.usn-it.de/index.php/2009/11/18/doag-konferenz-2009-impressions-day-1/
phimic, are you here?
phimic
usn_work: yes back from launch :)
usn_work
Did you already resolv your error?
phimic
usn_work: not really, i drop the whole instance and setup a new one
usn_work
eyeye
Describe the state the instances have been in when the error occured
Have they been running, and just the clusterware did not know that?
phimic
this database should be for vmware vsphere and need to upgraded to 10.2.0.4
i only have 10.2.0.3, this db was running for a week but i did not get as up again
usn_work
Did you patch CRS and ASM first?
phimic
up to now i did not patch CRS and ASM
before i patch i would like to talkt to you :)
usn_work
You have to patch CRS first, then ASM then DB
phimic
usn_work: is a rolling upgrade possible without downtime of the databases?
usn_work
uh
never did that
phimic
i am a little afraid for patching 10.2.0.3 -> 10.2.0.4 on a productive system
usn_work
With downtime, I did it several times without problems
But I'd patch the CRS and ASM one week beforehand
mgolisch
hm
anyone good with jdbc?
can i somehow use the statement.getgeneratedkeys function to retrive the inserted sequence value? if its inserted using a trigger and not in the sqlstatement i execute using jdbc?
phimic
usn_work: i found that blog http://askdba.org/weblog/2008/08/upgrading-oracle-rac-database-10g/comment-page-1/ for a rolling upgrade, but i am not sure to do this
usn_work
do you have a really-no-downtime-system??

hali
phimic: do the upgrade on a test system first
uat or what not
phimic
hali: i have no test cluster
usn_work
you can't spend a sunday on it?
phimic
usn_work: yes no downtime system i only have a maintainance window of 1 h on fridays
usn_work
you simply can't do this
not without a test system and one hour time windows
hali
phimic: if you don't have a test cluster there is no way you have the uptime requirement to do rolling upgrades :-)
phimic
hali: ok so rolling upgrades sounds dangerous
usn_work
all you do on such a box is dangerous without a testing environment
hali
you could try to setup a test env in vmware / virtualbox
phimic
hali: i can setup one on environmen in vmware esx but i think then we have to pay two more SLES 10 licences
but i will wait and setup a test environment first
i don`t really know why vSphere4 dont work with a 10.2.0.4 db backend
mastro
which is the command to enable the oracle web console?
RJarett
start > run > firefox.exe
;)
did you PAY to license the included oem?
if you did, you run emctl start dbconsole
mastro
RJarett, let me se... hum.. no start here, nor .exe anywhere
RJarett, and I asked how to enable the oracle web console not how to access it
RJarett, :) i'm a developer
RJarett, thanks searching emctl command
RJarett
still need to pay for the web console as a developer
its not like oracle is free for development
mastro
RJarett, oh.. really? so I don't have it? hum.. well I guess I'll ask my manager to pay for it.. in the meanwhile I'll start enabling it to see if it work, not using it :) I promise
RJarett
you probably have it
just not licensed for it
and ask your manager if its worth about 160k$
or the lawsuit that comes from using it
mastro
RJarett, wow...
hali
even se1 comes with the basic web console, and costs about $4k
mastro
RJarett, well... how do I do it start up with the system like the oracle instances?
hali
or about $800 for a 5 user license
RJarett
mastro: sqlplus
who needs a web console to start a db?
mastro
<---- Oracle newbie, RJarett can you be a bit more specific? tnx
hali
im just saying that emconsole doesn't cost 160k
RJarett
hali: on a modern box it does
mastro
RJarett, well.. actually I don't care if that console is enabled or not.. my manager want it.. I'll enable it and let in play/pay with it
hali
no it doesn't
RJarett
mastro: set your env.
sqlplus / as sysdba
startup
mastro
RJarett, ? which env? SQLPLUS=sysdba ???
RJarett
mastro go hire a dba or google
this is intro crap
hali
whats what we are here for
RJarett
theres a thousand sites that will tell you this
hali
help anyone who needs help with oracle
mastro
RJarett, well... a link is enough... :) I lost myself into the oracle documentation
hali
nothing is forcing you to reply or even care RJarett
if you don't know the answer or care about a question, just leave it
RJarett
hali: helping on the simplest of searches promotes ignorance and laziness
thew "starting up and shutting down" chapter in the docs would do nicely
http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+start+oracle+db
hali
typical "im better than you so fu*k off"
mastro
RJarett, this is not laziness... I'm totally new to oracle.. I don't even know what is the name of the oracle console and so I don't know what to google for
RJarett
plus.. going back to before. the dbconsole, every tab is a "management pack" which is licensed separetely.
hali
this isn't #solaris ;)
mastro
RJarett, i'm not looking for a console to start/shutdown oracle... my manager say that there is a console in oracle to create new databases / tablespaces and so on...
RJarett, just tell me what's the name of this console and i'll google for it
RJarett
if you just licensed the 4 most common packs for a dba and developer on a quad core, quad socket db server (8 total licenses per pack needed * 4 packs * 5k$ list per pack ) * 1.25 (25% is about the support cost now days)
mastro
RJarett, and anyway I agree with hali.. i'm in other channel and I help anyone who need it, expert or not
RJarett
so thats 200k list for the management packs for dbconsole if you really licensed them. you can get a good discount it brings it down to about 125k
which is crazy
but just a point i was making
mastro: create databases: dbca
start oracle and do sql work: sqlplus
no web console needed for any of it
mastro
RJarett, it's not me who want that console.. is my manager...
RJarett
the dbconsole app for a web gui is ONLY usable after a DB is created since it runs largely from within the db
you need to use dbca first
but developers should not be able to create databases, tablespaces, etc etc
Since its an accident waiting to happen
mastro
RJarett, I already have my db configured and running.. i just had to enable this sh*tty console because my manager MUST have it, "absolute priority"
RJarett
show him this: http://oraclestore.oracle.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=10103
click into the Enterprise Managers packs such as diagnostic packs
hali
mastro: are you on a windows box?
RJarett
at $5k/ea
mastro
RJarett, I know i'm not a sysadmin, and honestly I don't even like having to do with stuff like that but since this is the case I come here asking for help, if you one day will need help with java (for example) or linux and you come in one of the channel where I usually hang on you'll receive help from me, no matter what
hali, nope, debian Linux
RJarett
mastro: i am helping you
ohh geez even an unsupported OS too huh?
hali
mastro: emctl start dbconsole ... plus debian is unsupported
mastro
RJarett, emctl start dbconsole <--- thanks :) waiting it to start
hali, I know :) i did the installation anyway
RJarett
you need ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID set
mastro
hali, it's a test environment
hali
mastro: if debain works, you're lucky... it may stop working whenever you do updates
RJarett
but everything here is easily found on webpages
hali
glibc etc
RJarett
in the channel onjoin msg
mastro
hali, i only know debian and so I used it :)
RJarett
http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle10g.shtml
look there for where he sets environment variables
mastro
RJarett, well.. it seems to work even if it keep saying "starting ............................" (add a . every 2 seconds or so)
RJarett, I already did the installation and set up all that stuff :) already using oracle in some application. But thanks!
RJarett, hali do you think is better to start over again and do the installation in a red hat server?
hali
possibly, you can use centos too (rhel clone)
RJarett
Centos
mastro
RJarett, it took me one day of work to install it on debian (never installed oracle before). I can't effort another full day to install it in another environment... will it take less time to install in a supported system?
RJarett
not for a newb
will this server become production?
mastro
hali, RJarett fedora/centos what would you advice?
RJarett, never
hali
not fedora
mastro
RJarett, test server
hali
fedora has nothing to do on a server
mastro
RJarett, the production server will be managed by the costumer and we don't know what it is we just know it will be oracle 10g
hali
(unless it's a fedora specific feature test in prep for rhel6 or something)
RJarett
even though 10g is going unsupported?
mastro
hali, well i know.. but linux is linux :) and fedora is just red hat with some "more recent" package and some software already installed without letting you the choice
avaia
ummm
mastro
RJarett, our costumer decision not mine
hali
mastro: linux is not linux
mastro: as oracle won't even work with certain versions of glibc for instance
mastro
RJarett, hali can the em console be executed just after the dbstart invocation? or it has to wait for it to be completed? (i need to know to set up the automatic startup script)
hali, glibc is not linux, it's a library :) anyway I got your point
RJarett
you need a long ass sleep after the db comes up in your init but as long as the environment is set itll work
the db chugs along on stuff and if you start the dbconsole too soon itll think theres a problem with it
mastro
RJarett, so it will just hang for a while until the db is actually started? fair enough
RJarett
no
itll error the start of the console
and the console will report the db is down or corrupt
and then some idiot like you or your manager will click the little gui setting to restore or something
and mess everything up
mastro
RJarett, thanks for the "idiot" but i'll not take it
RJarett, instead can you tell me if there is a recommended way to automatically startup the dbconsole at boot time?
RJarett, or just give me a link or something
RJarett
i linked you to a site that talks about all of that
additionally its in the onjoin and topic here
mastro
RJarett, are you talking about this? http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle10g.shtml it does not talk on how to properly start that console at boot time
RJarett
do you have enough logic or brain power to look at other pages on the site?
What happens if your java ide doesnt nicely tell you which method to use next?
do you ask people on IRC to link you to every possible api there is?
qnix`
C api cachin question: If I cache a statement, and that statement have been executed one time, does the cache will keep all results when cachefree will be called?
