how to know ,when to coalesce a table space?
will we get any error, or performance degradation problem?
sidh
greetigns gentlemen
greetings
i've bought 3 brand new 380 GB sata hdd for having a small ASM environement for testing
for the moment i will use oracle 10G on opensolaris, but do you think i could "mount" the 3 asm hdd on a next oracle 10g/RHEL install ?
mator
sidh, I think it depends how you will use the disks, i.e. partition them
sidh, better not to partition at all and give whole disks to/under ASM management
but you can skip my comments, since I've no real ASM expirience
sidh
yes that is why i bought those HDD
i give them to ASM at all
hali
sidh: i'd to a database cloning in rman if you want to migrate between boxes
it's an interesting test just to move them, but i wouldn't be 100% sure it works
sidh
hali: yes but i won't have 3 hdd again, i would like to "mount" the same asm hdd disk group under a oracle/RHEL install in few months
hali
devices names will change etc
/dev/sdh instead of /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0 etc
i'd try it in a lab first
sidh
ah ok i see
eueu
Hello, is there a way to do a ALTER VIEW view_name COMPILE; for each view_name in user_views? Except Spooling the result of a select to a file and running that file in SQLPLUS?

drdimitri
eueu: I have no Instance to test my code, but this should work: http://pastebin.com/d5de78a1e
http://pastebin.com/m22bfa022
eueu
drdimitri, yes& but ALTER is not executable in PL/SQL.
I had already tried that :)
I think.
drdimitri
it is if you use dynamic sql: EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'sql-string';
eueu
ah, ok. I didn't know
thank you then.
It works perfectly.
except that s/imemdiate/immediate
:)
vigith
is this wrong?
PARTITION BY RANGE(TO_DATE(rts, 'yyyymmdd'))
i am getting error saying .. "ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis"
mastro
what should I do to enable the weblogic http session replication? is it enough to enable MAN replication for the cluster in the console? how do I check if the replication actually happen?
can someone tell me the steps to add an apache load balancer on top of weblogic cluster?
hali
are you using the weblogic plugin?
or just the web connector
(mod_proxy)
mod_proxy_balance will do what you want to do but is a fairly basic solution
you should probably look in to netscalers (or bigip/serveriron)
mastro
hali, I don't even know which options there are.. I'm trying to set up an balancer with apache mod_proxy, mod_proxy_http and mod_proxy_balancer. The problem is that this should allow set up of a route and I don't know how to set it up in weblogic
hali, my balancer work.. but It doesn't keep my session (i set up the stickysession)
hali
based on JSESSIONID?
mastro
hali, yes
hali
then something is probably missconfigured
no ssl between apache and weblogic i take it?
mastro
hali, no the cluster is on the same machine (just testing environment) 2 servers with different ports. the apache is on the same machine too
hali
can you pastebin your apache config?
i've used a tool called 'pound' for basic web balancing in the past, works quite well too
mastro
hali, sure
hali, http://pastebin.com/m54b1ea9d
hali, as you can see there is a lot of things commented out because they are tries I did
mgolisch
does statement.getautogeneratedkeys() work for trigger/sequence based incremental keyfields?
mastro
hali, with that configuration I can enter the server with the "balanced" url (port 80) but then any click and authentication send me to the server url. If I de-comment the ProxyPreserveHost On the url stay on port 80 but it keep jumping from one service and the other and I can't authenticate (loose session)
hali
first you need ProxyPassReverse for each url
mastro
hali, this line? ProxyPassReverse / balancer://mycluster/
hali
no per host
mastro
hali, since apache 2.2.8 it should be balancer aware and you shouln't need that configuration per-host.. but let's try it

hali
ther reverse should per host (or at least used to)
and the forward should be to the balancer
kok
Hi, i have a problem i see on my dbconsole entreprise manager the name of asm is not correct when i click on the asm link i can see this error : agent not access if you can help me please thanks
i don't know what is this agent
mastro
hali, is this line ok for the reserver per host? :8001/user/test/home
hali, sorry
hali, misstyped: ProxyPassReverse / balancer://mycluster/http://10.26.5.220:8001
hali, hum.. better this: ProxyPassReverse / http://10.26.5.220:8001
hali, what's the other route? you talked about a weblogic apache module, where do I found it and how do I use it?
usn_work
hi folx
kok
nobody know where is configured the agent of asm please
phimic
hello all
i have a oracle rac 10.2.0.3.0 64-Bit and would like to patch up to 10.2.0.4
is this a difficult task, how long the database will be offline?
does a rolling upgrade work from 10.2.3.0 to 10.2.0.4?
freezey
i am trying to delete an asm disk from my oracle group and i keep getting failed... the disk is already unmounted from oracle.. i am not sure why it is failing
number2
Does Oracle have a recommened list for Oracle training?
I guess they have their own training univ..oracle.com
Trengo
there's resellers
number2
It would appear
I'm looking for Pittsburgh, PA.
RJarett
its over --->
number2
waves
Maybe I'm reading it wrong but...
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getCourseDesc?dc=D49992GC10&p_org_id=1001
RJarett
let plsql die
please
number2
It seems some resellers offer the same thing but with multiple people
heh RJarett
That's what I'm saying.
But they're using it
RJarett
if you want a group course, itll be more like 10k
number2
With out any exp with Oracle or PL/SQL my first recommendation was not to use it in favor of Java or non-PLSQL
RJarett
but that one is the newby plsql class
number2
Does that seem rational?
RJarett
depends
but newbs with plsql on a production project is bad news
there is no benefit to using plsql over any other language
and in many designs it would be slower to develop, slower to run, harder to admin and source control
and non portable
number2
Yeah, my main reason was portability
However they're using COBOL right now
Speaking of letting things die
RJarett
ohh great from a 30 year old language to a 15yo one
number2
Well hey the paint dried
So they're going to paint themselves into the other corner
GUcko1
hi guys, I'm a computer engineering student and I have a database course. We are using PLSQL. I use Linux (esp. Ubunut). How can I write PLSQL in Linux? Should I install Oracle? If so where to get it? This is my first time with Oracle. I only dealt with Mysql.
RJarett
mysql makes people into idiots
GUcko1
RJarett: mysql rocks
RJarett
stfu and go away
number2
Hence the question? GUcko1 I would start at oracle.com
heh
RJarett
Rule #1 mysql makes people stupid
DiscordianUK
Ubunut I like it
RJarett
Rule #2 forget everything you learn in college since you are nothing more then a spoonfed drone right now
GUcko1
RJarett: rule #1 don't be stupid and start this kind of discussions
RJarett
Im sure you can run plsql in ubunut with mysql.
theres an app for that
You have an ipod going right now dont you?
GUcko1
As my prof told me that PLSQL is for Oracle. So how can I run it with Mysql?!
DiscordianUK
aiuee
RJarett
Spoon fed.
GUcko1
RJarett: yeah I have an iPod connected, but I'm not playing anything. I'm playing a song using Totem
RJarett: Lady GaGa
RJarett
well at least its not britney
guess that was last semester
avaia
RJarett: someone on your lawn?
GUcko1
WOW! Is Oracle free?!!!
RJarett
no
GUcko1
it's available to download!
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html
RJarett
Thank you mr obvious
I guess reading license agreements is next semester
number2
heh
GUcko1
RJarett: heheh I fail at the first condition!
RJarett
You can download it since Oracle doesnt care what some random idiot does with it to play around.
And if Oracle cares, they have more lawyers than your college has spoonfed pothead ipod wearing morons.
So they will just sue the person
Non production, non development, proof of concept usage only.
GUcko1
RJarett: " You'll not - use the programs for your own internal data processing or for any commercial or production purposes, or use the programs for any purpose except the development of your application;"
RJarett: how can they know if I do so? ;)
RJarett
They see everything
GUcko1
ghosts?!! :)
RJarett
Plus theres a line in the license that says it cannot be used for ongoing development of production systems
GUcko1
heehehe
they can't know if I use it internally and without an internet connection connected to the server ;)
Oracle cares about companies not individuals
RJarett
you ever watch the movie AntiTrust?
GUcko1
no
I'll get today.
RJarett
plus oracle isnt the only DB that can use plsql
but since you are going to be using it in a class, youll want the sample schemas and such
GUcko1
"plus oracle isnt the only DBMS that can use plsql"
^^you meant
RJarett
no
i did not
so stfu and dont think you know enough to correct me
GUcko1
RJarett: who are you?!
RJarett
To you, Im God. thats all you need to know
And youve been touching yourself too often. Knock it off
GUcko1
Oracle IS a DBMS
RJarett
do you even really know what the MS relates to?
GUcko1
hehehhe sure
I bet YOU don't
;)
RJarett
says the guy who proclaims "(1:16:22 PM) GUcko1: WOW! Is Oracle free?!!!"
And that he needs oracle for ubunut
GUcko1
hahahahah
hahahhah
DiscordianUK
There's something nutty there alright
GUcko1
RJarett: do you know Relational Algebra? Relational Calculus? ;)
RJarett
LEt me guess you read a CJ Date book and you think you are an expert now
GUcko1
now I'm not an expert
and I don't know that CJ Date book
I'm reading Fundamentals Of Database Systems
I guess you don't know that book
RJarett
You arent at the lvl of CJ Date yet
DiscordianUK
Everyone knows of that book
GUcko1
DiscordianUK: my book?
RJarett
Here's a tip for your future... if you ever use the word tuple in real life or a job interview, its a sure sign you dont have a clue. k thanks
GUcko1
RJarett: do you know my book?
RJarett
Yes. Ive read just about every DB book out in the last 12 years.
GUcko1
RJarett: have you been to college?
RJarett
A few classes.
Tends to make people stupid, and was hurting my income potential.
GUcko1
RJarett: well I guess my prof know better than you do by suggesting "Fundamentals Of Database Systems" rather than DJ Date book
RJarett
He is just lazy.
And knows that kids these days are too stupid to handle Date
GUcko1
RJarett: So you know Relational Algebra and Relational Calculus?
RJarett
I know its barely useful in real life. Thats the most important thing I learn from all of those books
GUcko1
ha that's why you say that my book is bad. You focus on practical work then.
RJarett
Theory gets you no where once you are done writting term papers for an old guy who doesnt bother reading them.
Like i said, forget everything you have learned and will learn since it does not apply.
What are you 19, 20?
GUcko1
I know my books isn't so good in the practical work like working in SQL and other DBMSs. It focuses mostly on theoretical parts like Relational Algebra, Relational Calculus, Normalization, Modeling...etc
But I highly find them sooo important
I'm 20
well be 21 soon
They are important for academic learning
RJarett
Your book will turn you into a drone that will not be able to understand the real concepts of how DBs work, and how or why to denormalize or normalize based on performance or problem
And lets put it this way.. when i was 20, almost 21.. i was working FOR Oracle ;) k thanks lol
GUcko1
