hey
I am looking a way to disable some firefox features e.g. file api, CORS etc.
does firefox have such switch?
ki7rw
despite what i've been able to find and try, i still get a DNS leak when using Firefox - Chrome doesn't leak so i'm assuming it's a problem with Firefox
kbrosnan
dns leak as in dns is not going though a proxy?
have you set network.proxy.socks_remote_dns?
thufir
can I return a header from the server that makes firefox refuse to load images/etc off of a different domain?
ie, enforce a same-origin security policy, but for images/anything
ah, i guess I want: Content-Security-Policy: default-src 'self'

Is it ok to complain ?
O wait, the report doesn't specify the severity of the bugs remaining, nevermind.
Might wish to update that to avoid confusion :)
auscompgeek
Qantourisc: nobody knows what on earth you're talking about.
Qantourisc
that's ok
tpw_rules
is there a way to remove the suggested panel on the new tab page? i click the x but it reappears instantly
wait it left now? i don't understand
the first 3 times i clicked on it it just popped back up

Qantourisc
tpw_rules: /me isn't sure what you mean, could you post an image in the next 120seconds ? (have to leave then :p)
or maybe someone else
tpw_rules
https://i.imgur.com/p1S562z.png this page in the new tab
the top left one was like "suggested site" and had an article based on a page i had browsed recently, which is creepy and i don't want. i pressed the "x" to remove it and it reappeared
Qantourisc
there is an x button ? :p
tpw_rules
but then i came to complain and looked back and it was gone. so i dunno?
Qantourisc
oow you want the tracking off
not sure how i managed that :p
never done that here
have to go now
tpw_rules
i mean it's not there anymore so i'm happy
Qantourisc
ill be back in 3 hours ?
tpw_rules
i'm going to bed in a few minutes
if it comes back, i'll come back
Qantourisc
tpw_rules: ow now i see
i have noscript
and it's blocking newtab scripts :p
(Action) has to go now-now
auscompgeek
damn, I was about to screenshot something
SmugLeaf
So my firefox "crashes" at random. but theres nothing in .xsession-errors, nothing in syslog, and no segfaults in dmesg
any ideas where to look
XXCoder
disable one plugin a time
see which causes it
b0at
first see if safe mode fixes it: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode#w_how-to-start-firefox-in-safe-mode
then you know one of the things safe mode disables is at fault
auscompgeek
SmugLeaf: try to reproduce it with a mozilla build
jnor
hi, something that has been annoying me forever: when I used mousepad I scroll a page running both fingers down the pad, but if I accidentally double tap firefox activates "Back". How can I disable this?
my pad is very sensitive
b0at
it might be something in your touchpad driver sending alt+left or an equivalent gesture
that's unfortunately too common
jnor
ah alright ill try and figure it out that way then
b0at
there are some where you can't disable the windows 8 charm bar, making certain movement impossible
wodim
allahu akbar

SmugLeaf: another trick to get more error messages is starting it from cli

Hi. I'm on FF 4.0.3 on OSX and youtube videos are not going fullscreen. I have confirmed that it's set to "Allow" youtube to go fullscreen. Any ideas anyone?
I deleted the setting from about:permissions page, and now it's not even asking me again to go fullscreen :(
XXCoder
add it back
aps
XXCoder: how do I add it back? When I go on YT now, it doesn't ask me about permissions
XXCoder
aps: firefox 4?
or 40?
aps
oops sorry, 40.0.3
XXCoder
basically go to about:config
right click and go to new then pik correct type
type name of setting you deleted
set value and done
aps
nah, I deleted setting from about:permissions , *after* it had stopped working
XXCoder
ah dunno then
does it stall massively when full screen?
n/m lol
aps
Some issue with facebook videos going fullscreen as well, might be a bug :/
XXCoder
try some stuff like safe mode? or disable plugins or extensions till find one thats preventing
bananabas
hi guys
julius_
hi
what do you install in firefox to get "spell check" while typing in forums and so? ive installed a german dictionary, it shows up unter addons -> dictionary but while tiping it does nothing
XXCoder
julius_: theres spellcheck setting, its set to multiline text box alone but can set to check everything
besides that it should work
forums tend to use multiline textbox.
julius_
in firefox, where is this spellcheck setting?
XXCoder
umm not sure
I had set it long before settings ui changes
auscompgeek
julius_: right click the textarea
bodqhrohro
Can I enable FOUC (Flash of Unstyled Content) in the newest versions of Firefox? There is an addon (QuickJava) for disabling anything besides HTML but it's too radical
b0at
bodqhrohro: fouc refers to a lag between renderings and css settings... do you mean disabling css style? like view->page style->no style ?
in that case, this might work: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/disable-style-button/?src=search
bodqhrohro
b0at: I just want to see the plain HTML 'till styles and scripts have loaded on VERY slow internet connection. Of course if it's not fully AJAX-dependent site
julius_
auscompgeek, thx
b0at
ah, yeah, i don't know if you can tune how it applies styles. i think even the gecko paint delay is fixed now, though very short.
but toggling them off and then back on may work, depending on the site
bodqhrohro
Okay, maybe I'll try DSB if it is not rejecting the download of CSS as QuickJava
auscompgeek
b0at: that delay is controlled by a pref, iirc
b0at
at one point they made the paint delay adaptive, but i never checked how much
the pref may still limit it, i dunno.
i was on a connection the other day where only the title showed and the rest of the page was blank, and i suspect that was the same sort of issue bodqhrohra had. it looks like it didn't even bother painting.
i'm gonna have to remember to try it again and see if setting to no style helps, next time.
(also see how slowly the data is coming it. i forgot to check)
frankyboy_
heya lads and gals... how to see log of errors while firefox loading?
blackwind_123
frankyboy_ : try to use Firebug extension... i dont a better way.. but i use this...
frankyboy_
blackwind_123, thanks... i'll try
b0at
if you mean the firefox the program, firebug won't help at all.
start from a console in linux/unix or run with the -console argument in windows
frankyboy_
b0at, nothing really much in console that define problem after updating
b0at
and if firefox is up and running but not working right, you might find details from the error console inside the browser toolbox (in the tools menu, after enabling chrome and remote debugging in the developer tools)
