arvut
hello
I have issues with firefox 39.x - 41.0 under gentoo, aurora
it crashes randomly when playing youtube videos with html5
I have recently gotten atleast 1 coredump
its like an annoying itch, it keeps segfaulting and music dies, nothing big is usually lost since session restore works fine
oh, and where has the "new-tab" button next to tabs gone? I compiled 41.0 today and noticed the UI difference
kbrosnan
the new tab button should still be preent
arvut
i can't see it
or click it
you want a screenshot?
kbrosnan
check a new profile
not really
arvut
I had to change profile.ini to get my current session back, it loaded some session from a very old profile, atleast 7 months
ah yes, its there now
nevermind
it wasn't there after upgrade, should I delete that old profile?
kbrosnan
could do a reset if you want
arvut
I really just want my session the way it is
between reboots
kbrosnan
of either the ui in the customize view
arvut
I have 3 windows and about 300 tabs oppen
open*
but that old profile that it loaded after the version change, is that obsolete?

evdw87
if you delete your old profile the session is gone
arvut
right
kbrosnan
as for the crash it likely depends on the version of gstreamer your firefox is using. there is a compile time flag that chooses between gstreamer 0.10 and 1.x
arvut
ok
I can see which gstreamer I got
Dragonfly6-7
hi
does 'refresh firefox' count as 'open firefox with a new profile' ?
spectromas
did I imagine it or did I see news about firefox changing which gstreamer it is built against?
kbrosnan
spectromas: the mozilla builds are using 0.10, some distros use 1.x
Dragonfly6-7: they are similar, refresh should perserve open tabs, history, bookmarks and passwords
Dragonfly6-7
kbrosnan - how would I create a new profile?
spectromas
kbrosnan: I believe mine is pulled from http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/${MOZ_PN}/releases/ but there was no change with this in the latest release?
Dragonfly6-7
(which has been suggested as a remedy for my .gif problem)
kbrosnan
Dragonfly6-7: a new profile would not copy any of that data and would result in a state similar to first installing firefox
Dragonfly6-7: firefox -P
with all other instances of firefox closed
Dragonfly6-7
.... "-P' ?
start firefox while holding down P ?
kbrosnan
no from a command line
Dragonfly6-7
d'you seriously think it might help my .gif problem?
kbrosnan
it uses the most basic settings so it is a good thing to try
Dragonfly6-7
(Action) types firefox -P in what I think is the command line
firefox is not recognized as an internal or external command
okay, there we go
evdw87
Dragonfly6-7: if you're on windows you need to specify to full path to firefox
Dragonfly6-7
thank you, evdw87
this is very aggravating
some ,gifs load and the majority don't
evdw87
isn't it just a server problem?
or isn't it limited to wikipedia?
Dragonfly6-7
evdw87 - for the past several days, Firefox has not shown me any .gifs from Wikipedia or Wikimedia servers. I can force my way around the problem, but I don't want to have to do that for each image.
I can load Wikipedia gifs on other browsers
and I can see non-Wikipedia gifs on firefox

evdw87
can you give me an example url?
Dragonfly6-7
one moment
(Action) reopens firefox
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bismarck_removing_his_helmet.gif
evdw87 - when I click on the "Media Viewer" icon, the image loads
'Open in Media Viewer'
evdw87
Dragonfly6-7: that's absolutely strange
you've tried a clean profile now?
Dragonfly6-7
minute
trying to get my file path
the full file path, ending in "firefox.exe -P" ?
... nope
not working
evdw87
more like "c:/path/firefox" -p
Dragonfly6-7
I'm doing something wrong
Program Files is not recognized as an internal or external etc etc
evdw87
you're missing quotes
Dragonfly6-7
the system cannot find the path specified
evdw87
you can also make a shortcut of the firefox executable and edit it and add -p if you think that's easier
arvut
evdw87: the -p should be before the endquote, no?
Dragonfly6-7
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
this is what I should put in my command line, yes?
arvut
I'm not very keen on win cli
evdw87
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p
Dragonfly6-7
there we go, it's asking me to create a new profile
will my current profile be destroyed?
evdw87
you could also right click while holding shift on firefox, "copy full path" will show up
Dragonfly6-7: haven't done this for a while, but I guess not
you could also try firefox portable btw
Dragonfly6-7
jesus christ
doesnt' work either
evdw87
you're on a new profile now?
Dragonfly6-7
Yes
blah
how can I recover my previous profile
evdw87
run the same command again and select your old profile
which is "default" if i'm correct
Dragonfly6-7
good thing I called the new one 'TESTING TESTING"
evdw87
:)
Dragonfly6-7
doesn't seem to be making a difference now?
oh wait
(Action) closes all windows
there we
there we *go*
