Hi
fishees
hey i am in linux and i can't see chinese characters. All I see is boxes. In my task bar (debian), I can see the characters in the title, and on the browser title, but inline, I just see boxes with numbers and letters inside
kbrosnan
fishees: then you will need to install a font that can display the characters

fishiez
kbrosnan, how do i install a font that can display the characters lol? i have never had to install fonts in ff
kbrosnan
it is an os level problem
fishiez
ah, understood
kbrosnan
the wikipedia page i pointed at should have some steps to resolve it

WireGhost
Hello, Is it possible to modify context menu with userContent.css? I tried but doesn't seem working, so just wanted to confirm :)

auscompgeek
WireGhost: what are you trying to do?
oh, userContent.css. uhm, yeah, probably not
Cork
userContent should be able to style it too
rapha
Hi!
So this morning I open firefox and it decides that one of my websites uses https-only and the cert is wrong and no exceptions allowed. The only way I could get it working again was by hitting Ctrl-Shift-Del and deleting *everything*, closing firefox and opening it back up. Is there any softer way?
Cork
rapha: ya you can clear the cache i THINK
it might also be stored in the cert8.db
but not sure about that
lotuspsychje
anyone knows howto use pepperflash in firefox
rapha
Cork: thanks!
Alina-malina
how to run a separate firefox profile from console in a specified folder like c:/Newprofile?
b0at
firefox -no-remote -profile "c:\path\to\profile"
Alina-malina
ah heh thanks
d0p
command line for new window ?
Mrokii
Hello. Firefox on Ubuntu doesn't start anymore for me. Don't know what happened. The error I'm getting when trying to start it from a console is: (process:3264): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed
xangua
Mrokii: did you try firefox safe mode┬┐ a fresh firefox profile┬┐
Mrokii
xangua: Not yet, no.
I always forget how to start FF in safe mode, so I'm currently looking for that.
auscompgeek
that message is normal
-safe-mode
Mrokii
auscompgeek: normal?
auscompgeek
Mrokii: yes, completely normal
Mrokii
I just tried starting FF in save-mode but the crash still happened.
auscompgeek
what crash?
Mrokii
I'm sorry, I probably didn't explain it thoroughly enough. When I'm trying to start firefox it crashes (right after trying to start it.
auscompgeek
as in, what happens?

Mrokii
I get a message box from the Crash Reporter saying "Firefox had a problem and crashed. Unfortunately, the crash reporter is unable to submit a crash report. Details: Couldn't move crash dump."
auscompgeek
uhm... is your disk full?
Mrokii
nope
auscompgeek: According to df in Terminal, the disks I'm using all have enough free space.
auscompgeek
(Action) shrugs
Mrokii
But I just noticed that Thunderbird doesn't start either... :-( Wth...
auscompgeek
maybe you've screwed up the permissions on ~/.mozilla/?
Mrokii
I didn't do anything on that directory. If the permissions are screwed up, it must have been some kind of bug.
I'll try creating a new .mozilla-folder and see what happens...
Nope, still crashes, even with a new .mozilla-folder.
Is there a folder that Thunderbird and Firefox use together on Ubuntu?
Cork
no
well there used to be xulrunner, but not sure if canonical splits that out now days (it isn't supported by mozilla)
Mrokii
Cork: I'm only asking because after restarting my system both Thunderbird and Firefox crash when I try to start them.
Cork
ah
that doesn't mean they share the folter
*folder
just that they run the same codebase
and yes thunderbird and firefox shares a lot of code
and for example a system library change can cause that
and the steps to diagnose them i usually use is: 1. extract a copy of firefox/thunderbird from mozilla (as oposed to from the repo)
Mrokii
Hm, okay. I did a system update before I restarted, but there were no things about Thunderbird or Firefox updated. But there were some system files updated I think.
Cork
if you can reproduce the crash there
check the mozilla crash report
if it doesn't crash => canonical bug and they need to fix it
(it is almost always the later)
Mrokii
I'm not sure if I can. The Crash Reporter tells me that it couldn't move crash dump (in a window that appears right after crash).
Firefox crashes and then briefly shows a window that tells me to start in safe-mode. But right after that, a window titled "Mozilla Crash Reporter" appears, saying "Firefox had a problem and crashed. Unfortunately, the crash reporter is unable to submit a crash report. Details: Couldn't move crash dump.".

hey guys, I'm in company network where I suspect that firewall blocks things which don't have custom company SSL cert. all other broswers are fine, opera chrome and IE, because they use Windows certificate store. Firefox has its own certificate store and a lot of websites don't work.for me, even mozilla.org is.not rendered properly etc.
i tried important windows store trusted.certificates but.I.get.message that certificate is already installed as certificate authority
nothing seems to help
I'm forced to use chrome instead but really wanna resolve the issue
Cork
Mrokii: ok that is a good start actually
Mrokii
Cork: how so?
Cork
Mrokii: then goto ~/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/
Mrokii
I'm there.
Cork
then goto submitted (i think it is called)
the latest date there should be what you want
or rather the file creates the latest
Mrokii: if the report couldn't send the dump then ya that would be a dead end though
and would prob point back at a question for #ubuntu again i guess
Mrokii
Cork: There is no "submitted" folder. And the only file that is created is called "LastCrash".
Cork
so you haven't made a single successful submission...
that kinda sucks
Mrokii
I have no other info unfortunately.
There doesn't seem to be anything helpful created during the crash.
Cork
ya, you could try starting firefox in gdb i guess
and catch the crash dump there if possible
it won't give the bug connection help the crash report gives though
auscompgeek
if you haven't tried a mozilla build yet, I'd try that first though
Mrokii
The thing is I haven't updated Firefox and Thunderbird today, so the version I'm running now is the one that worked before.
Cork
auscompgeek: you don't get breakpad unless you do
Mrokii: ya, so it was likely a system lib breaking
auscompgeek
Cork: don't ubuntu have the crash reporter enabled as well?
Cork
nope
the only one except mozilla builds that do is redhat builds
auscompgeek: the reason is that the builder has to upload symbols to the crash servers
and that server contains quite a bit of sensitive data
so they don't give that out to just anyone
auscompgeek
hmm. could've sworn they did, I seem to recall sending crash reports using ubuntu builds.
Cork
(also it causes quite a bit of load to handle a crash report so...)
nope
auscompgeek
maybe I dreamt that up
