kbrosnan
good is subjective.

Hi everyone. I use an application to develop websites locally and I can set what browser I want to be the default browser. The usual browsers are easy, Safari, Firefox, but I use FF Developer Edition and cannot find the proper key to insert into my settings. Where do I find the name for it?
We tried Aurora , no luck
kbrosnan
you probably need to explore the app bundle, the context menu for the app in finder used to allow that. though i've not os x'ed in a long time
and find the full path to the firefox binary inside the bundle
nomad411
I just checked the .plist, no luck. Th ename itself though seems to hint at firefoxdeveloperedition but it didn't work before. I'll go look inside the package as you suggest, great idea.
Ooohh! Maybe firefox-dev
[App]
Vendor=Mozilla
Name=Firefox
RemotingName=firefox-dev
CodeName=FirefoxDeveloperEdition
kbrosnan
that sounds right
nomad411
Nope, no luck. I'll go "open a ticket" :)

I'm started using GreaseMonkey in Firefox lately and absolutely love it. I've looked at a few scripts I've found online and figured out how to own scripts to fix some annoyances in some pages that I frequent.
One thing I don't get, though, is some exmaples I found use unsafeWindow.* instead of window.*, but I found using window.* works just fine, so what exactly is unsafeWindow for?
Closest thing I've found was a wiki page at the greasespot site, that mentions that window.* is safer and unsafeWindow.* should be avoided.
b0at
originally, unsafeWindow was the only way to get to certain things. but greasemonkey updated and it improved.

why is firefox objectively slower than chrome at rendering html5 video? just tried to switch back but went right back to chrome when youtube was unusable
alanjf
b0at: Thanks. So far I've been able to use the regular 'window' object without any problem.

b0at: I just joined and see you were talking about unsafeWindow, I use this script: http://userscripts-mirror.org/scripts/review/35375 Do you know if it could be improved?
logan0405
only way that you could have made yourself look cooler is if you used lmgtfy
llamapixel
Tell us more about your "test" eg: did you restart your computer recently, did you restart between browsers... did you test a local file on the network instead of over the internet which might have caused unknown factors logan0405
logan0405
I've used both browsers for years and noticed chrome is objectively faster
llamapixel
alright, take it easy then.
b0at
evdw87: i don't know what difference it would make, but it might work with just "window.clearTimeout".
logan0405
alright, ill try
evdw87
b0at: alright, I'll try, thanks
b0at
also, i don't know whether browsers allocate timer ids sequentially. but if they do, creating a new one and then clearing 0 to that new id should catch every single timer.
though, assuming 10 is faster and simpler.
evdw87
b0at: well, i've encountered some sites that still seem to reload. so changing 10 to 0 would possibly fix this?
Only thing I know this script works, just don't know how to read this sequence
b0at
yeah, i think timeout ids are meant to be opaque
maybe upping it to 100 would help
evdw87
b0at: what would equal infinite?
b0at
i assume it's limited to the max integer. though a quick test in the web console shows firefox _does_ use sequential ids, so something like var max = window.setTimeout(0, function(){}); may get you the upper bound
now, that may be wrapped in a way that obscures the underlying id, so it might act different with unsafeWindow. but it's worth a try
evdw87
wow thanks for the suggestion
waressearcher2
is anyone here ?
how can I make tab autoreload every 5 seconds ?
evdw87
lol, is this a coincidence?

waressearcher2
what
evdw87
well, is was just discussing a script to stop automatic refreshes xD

Hi.
Do anyone know how firejail works?
GiftigerWunsch
Anyone know anything about js / particularly head.js bugs appearing in firefox 40? I've just upgraded and now head.js seems to be borked. eg. see the console output on http://www.xantoria.com/ or http://www.greenmangaming.com/
both sites use head.js and both were fine in firefox 39.0 (and continue to be fine in other browsers)
I couldn't find anything about this issue when googling it
Seems that particularly when a script is loaded with head.js, it doesn't have access to jQuery when the script is interpreted, which is kinda meant to be the primary goal of head.js
(I'm currently on 40.0.3)
oh, it looks like 41 is the latest version, though doesn't see mto be available on fedora via yum. Guess I'll try manually upgrading to that and hope that fixes it
Nope, still broken in 41
b0at
i don't get any errors in 41
GiftigerWunsch
on those sites? I'm getting TypeError: $ is not a function
it's failing to find jquery in one of my scripts loaded with head.js
b0at
it loads up for me. i get the warnings of deprecated functions from jquery
maybe an extension is blocking it somehow?
GiftigerWunsch
I don't get any of those. Hm
I'll try safe mode
huh, that fixed it
guess an add-on was a problem; thanks
probably firebug
or grasemonkey
*grease
yup, firebug is the problem. Pretty annoying, that's a very useful add on
update fixed it; woo. Thanks b0at
b0at
cool
waressearcher2
how can I make tab autoreload every 5 seconds ?
GiftigerWunsch
js?
$(function() { setTimeout(function() { window.location.reload(); }, 5000); });
waressearcher2
where to put that code ?
no I mean I want to open some website and I want the tab is refreshed
GiftigerWunsch
on the page if you control the source, or in a userscript if you don't
waressearcher2
GiftigerWunsch: too complicated, I remember there should be a plugin
llamapixel
GiftigerWunsch
that works too. My solution is cross-browser though :P
waressearcher2
I don't know what is "userscript"
llamapixel
You can also do things of this nature by manipulating the operating system with its internal stuff eg mac osx applescript / sheel scripting
shell*
GiftigerWunsch
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/ a script which you add on to a site by sticking it in via the browser
waressearcher2
no
llamapixel
yes
waressearcher2
why whenever I run firefox from console I getting this message:
"(process:1758): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed"
?
do I have wrong glib version ?
b0at
no, that always shows up. you can safely ignore it.
Foxhoundz
is it possible to use a local server for Firefox sync?
I don't like the idea of setting up an account with Firefox
Jesus what happened to you guys
kbrosnan
Foxhoundz: it is possible.
Foxhoundz
kbrosnan: how so?
kbrosnan
Foxhoundz
is this a feature that's on the cutting board?
kbrosnan
the servers will be open source
