As a user of Firefox Developer Edition, can someone please tell me how to turn off the extension signing requirement?
Nvm, found it.
condret
patch it with a hexeditor
b0at
they're supposed to release a separate build for the stable branch, at least. dunno about the rest.
looks like somebody finally put keyconfig on amo, so i guess my big gripe against signing is moot
SoItBegins
xpinstall.signatures.required is the preference. It exists in the current version of aurora, so presumably that's how developer versions will do it.
Ugh, New Xkit isn't signed yet, though& or HTTPS-E& or RequestPolicy Continued.
Though the last of those is getting a signature in the next beta.

condret: There's a pref for it, so far.
I've heard the pref's going away in a couple versions. I don't know if it will still be enabled in aurora/nightly or what.
kbrosnan
nightly and aurora will continue to have a pref
Peng
Ah.

Hello, I've recently been wanting to try out firefox from chromium on my main linux desktop. I've tried various builds of firefox 43 and 42, but have the same issues on all of them: Pages such as irccloud.com will freeze immediately (no input possible), and lock a core at 100%. If I tab out of any tab and go back, it's greyed out with a spinner. Each tab I
tab out of locks another thread at 100%, eventually all cores are at 100% with no usable tabs. Is there anything I should be trying? On a much slower system (but identical in terms of software) firefox is mostly usable. I'd prefer using nightly for gtk3 and html5 video (like on the slower system).
b0at
have you tried the stable branch? it's at version 40 right now.
i say that because generally it's more stable.

TheRealJohnGalt
Most pages load and accept input on the stable branch, I still have the tab out spinning circle issue on it however
Many pages wouldn't load at all on it either, but I heard embedded tweets were an issue and installed an extension to disable them. That's how I was able to get pages to load an image but freeze.
b0at
hm... maybe you need an ad blocker.
TheRealJohnGalt
b0at: each time when I test a new build I rm -rf ~/.cache/mozilla/firefox/ ; ~/.mozilla/firefox, so no extensions (though I've tested with normal extensions as well). I just tested a firefox nightly build I've already tested on this system, on a i7 4770 system with same software and it loads these pages and keeps tabs loaded. Seems it's just an issue on my
dual e5-2687w desktop.
not taken on a clean firefox instance, but the tab out -- tab in issue I'm talking about (also what happens if you tab out of a page that doesn't load in ffox such as irccloud). http://i.imgur.com/mFb96YX.png
b0at
might try with hardware acceleration off, or safe mode which turns it off. that could be the common factor.
TheRealJohnGalt
ah, will do.
this system is hawaii, the working system I just tested is hawaii
tested is tahiti*
thank you for the suggestion. With hardware accel off, pages such as irccloud freeze immediately after loading (no input possible). process locks a core at 100% as well.
When firefox freezes with multiprocessing disabled (decided to test), the options menu shows up on all monitors until I kill the process.
nvm, it happens with e10s also enabled. Only way to actually quit is to kill the process. Just trying to quit does this (and locks at 100%). Example (does this to all monitors though): http://i.imgur.com/DE9xkrj.png
tekzilla
hi, does someone know the config property to show the menu bar (File, Edit, ...) ?
it seems like it doesnt write that to prefs.js
evdw87
tekzilla: you do want to display it at all time?
otherwise the alt button is your answer
tekzilla
evdw87: yes i would like to display it all the time, and set that in a config file
i want to modify the default firefox profile on a live CD to show the menu bar
evdw87
tekzilla: what will happen when you right click on an empty area and click 'menubar' and restart?
tekzilla
i just tried that on my regular machine here, it remembers the settings, but there is no difference in the prefs.js file
evdw87
tekzilla: hmm, I see
you could possibly fix it with some css
tekzilla
mhh if you have any idea i'd be interested :)
evdw87
if you've go tsome time, I need to setup a new profile
I could write a style
won't take much time, but my setup is not ready :p
tekzilla
hey sure, that would be great, but only if you're really interested
its not that big of a deal :)
evdw87
it's only a few lines i need to write
tekzilla
thanks man, that would be great
the live CD is for people to get in and out as quickly as possible, so it would be nice to have the menu there
there is "dom.disable_window_open_feature.menubar" to override settings "the page author" would make for popup windows
but i don't know how the page would control that in the first place, i guess thats something similar to what you are trying to do
evdw87
tekzilla: that's controlled by javascript from within a website
that option tells the browser if that should be allowed
tekzilla
evdw87: ah ok, thanks, i figured it would have something to do with javascript from the "dom. .."
evdw87
tekzilla: i've got the style somewhat working, only need to fix the height
tekzilla
evdw87: sweet! i have about an hour to go before people start coming in to work again :)
gotta be gone by then :P

evdw87
it won' take that long :P
tekzilla
really appriciate it!
evdw87
tekzilla: there's some condition where when an item in the menu is clicked, the titlebar height gets adjusted, I can't get my head around it
appart from that it's working
and it only does so when the "menu bar" option in the context menu is unticked
tekzilla
evdw87: hey thats just cosmetics, i'd love to try it out
as long as the menubar is easiyl accessible thats great
its just for short periods of use at a time, and people maybe not knowing how to get at the preset bookmarks
evdw87
tekzilla: here's what I have for now: http://pastebin.com/gFj8AZ5M
tekzilla
i know there might be more straight forward ways to have a bookmark toolbar displayed, but i like the menu
evdw87
use the stylish extension
make a new style and drop it in, give it a name and save
tekzilla
ok cool, i will try it out here locally
awesome, works perfectly :)
i see what you mean by resizing, the menubar gets a little border on selection, but its not really resizing
so anyway, it absolutely does the job :)
thanks a ton for taking the time, i would have been lost on this
evdw87
I still feel bad about the titlebar height
tekzilla
it looks perfectly fine!
evdw87
well, the titlebar's bottom-margin gets adjusted from -66px to -78px, that's what's happening to be precise
tekzilla
seems to have the right height here, on selection the bar gets a little border shadow on the bottom
oh ok, that doesnt seem to be happening here!
evdw87
well, maybe it's because you have the 'menu bar' ticked
tekzilla
so there is no gap between the menubar and the tab bar
no i havent
evdw87
hmm, that's strange
what OS do you use?
tekzilla
this is iceweasel on linux
evdw87
ah, that might be it
tekzilla
31.3 :o
evdw87
I'm on Windows
UI sometimes acts differently on different platforms
tekzilla
hehe cool so that problem somehow solved itself
evdw87
well great!
tekzilla
it really looks just like the regular menubar
indeed, thanks man :)
evdw87
you're welcome
tekzilla
now i need to figure out how to copy the stylish config over, but i should be able to get that figured out
evdw87
tekzilla
sweet!!
evdw87
but I don't know if my style will fit 1:1 because i've never used it
tekzilla
so just drop in the css class
evdw87
I don't know if the first line is necessary
