Which config(s) in FF/about:config cause all of my tabs to be reloaded and not being cached when closing the window and reopening it at a later state
FF used to display every page's content even when being offline after opening saved sessions. Now, every tab is getting reloaded again
xangua
that was done to speed up startup, don't remember what exact about:conf setting is
about:config *
b0at
well, there's the pref that doesn't load a pre-loaded tab until you click on it. that's probably mutually exclusive with showing a cached page
though i don't know what to tune to get more aggressive caching. even opening a closed, cached tab reloads it
tanath
kl3_, about:preferences > Don’t load tabs until selected
uncheck that?
kl3_
tanath: Oh..
tanath: Cheers, just unchecked it :D Will test in a minute
another question: How can I disable Ctrl+Q closing my session?
Sometimes I hit Q instead of W which is a real PITA
tanath
why would you want to?
use ctrl on right side instead of left?
kl3_
no
tanath
then you can leave your left hand on home row
kl3_
I just want ff not to react on Ctrl+Q anymore
or at least ask for confirmation

tanath
i think it's a built-in. not sure if it's configurable. i use an extension that gives alternate shortcuts for everything so is not a concern for me
kl3_
combined with the fact that every tab gets reloaded this *really* sucks
tanath
confirmation i think you can do
kl3_
tanath: whats that extension called?
tanath
warn when closing multiple tabs should do
kl3_
tanath: I've checked that
tanath
kl3_, pentadactyl. it's amazing, but not for everyeone
kl3_
hitting ctrl+q still kills ff instantly
tanath
vim-like control over everything in firefox. i hit 'd' to close a tab, or ZZ to quite firefox
*quit
thing is, like vim it has two basic modes. by default hitting keyboard buttons does the shortcut it's assigned to. you need to click in a text area for insert (typing) mode. or hit ctrl+z to pass keys through pentadactyl
http://5digits.org/nightlies if still interested
does make things much more efficient once you learn to use though
kl3_
sure, thanks
tanath
make sure to read the help
b0at
yeah, ctrl+q is built in, but there's an extension to disable it.
a gtk thing
tanath
kl3_, if you want pentadactyl tips or have questions, feel free to ask
kl3_
tanath: Nice, thanks for your help! But for now, I'll fix this tab reloading issue
reloading +20 tabs each time sucks
tanath
that didn't fix it?
kl3_
not tested yet ;)
will report here
tanath
i keep it on since i have 300-400 tabs
kl3_
tanath: yea, same reason here except I don't use *that* much tabs
tanath
er, 437 right now
i wouldn't be able to start firefox if i tried to do what you're doing :P
kl3_
you mean your session wouldn't start since its reloading +400 tabs?

tanath
right
kl3_
It would probably since tabs are only reloaded when clicked on it
tanath
it'd take forever and crash
that's what i'm saying. i keep it that way so i _can_ use it. you're trying to have it load all of them
kl3_
it used to cache everything and didnt even have to reload anything
tanath
yeah, that really limits the number of tabs
kl3_
now after unchecking that option I expect every tab to be realoded
tanath
and then after that it should be fixed
kl3_
hopefully
tanath
btw, if you have pent installed you can run :res to restart
kl3_
my firefoy still reloads every tab on restart
tanath
you restarted twice?
prefs > advanced > network, might have relevant settings
b0at
i think switching to offline mode is the only way to achieve a from-cache reload now like that
tanath
could also search about:config for 'cache' to see relevant settings
maybe
b0at
there's probably an extension to automatically switch to offline on start or close. i could see the utility in that.
kl3_
tanath: no, once
why twice?
tanath
once to get the tabs all loaded, again to see if they behave as expected
might be relevant browser.cache.auto_delete_cache_version
kl3_
what was the about: page where I could see all settings in about:config I've changed
tanath
well, altered settings are bold in about:config
kl3_
I know
aaah
about:support
that was it
b0at
about:support lists some
about:about lists about: pages, btw
kl3_
b0at: nice to know, thanks!
tanath
pentadactyl lets you run :about: and shows tab-completion options for every about: page btw
kl3_
browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand is set to false
could that be my issue?
b0at
that would make them load immediately instead of waiting for you to switch to them, yes
tanath
but would they refresh or load cached? not sure if that affects that
b0at
yeah, it doesn't change how it's cached
kl3_
"In Firefox 8 and up, the preference to specify the number of concurrent tabs to load ("browser.sessionstore.max_concurrent_tabs") was replaced by a preference to restore tabs on demand ("browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand")" - http://sessionmanager.mozdev.org/history.html
so true means they get reloaded instantly?
tanath
restore on demand being true i would think should not load them until focused
kl3_
i will just test
tanath
that's probably the prefs setting i had you change
kl3_
tanath: think so too
tanath
i think it's better to just load on demand
if you're worried about losing form data, use lazarus
kl3_
why is my ff still on +100% cpu even after closing the tab which played an mp4 video w/o hw accel some minutes ago?
How can I see more detailed what ff is doing?

Hi team, im trying to understand if i have a different problem, or a potential bug in firefox. Should a javascript timer that was created on page x (say www.domain.com) be able to continue to execute when you move to test.domain.com?
eg i click a link that atkes me to test.domain.com and yet the javascript continues to execute one more time, post move
