Is there a way to trick websites into thinking you have Flash?
on firefox for android
kjn
any way to create my own keyword searches that use "g" or "m" as the keyword?
firefox seems unwilling to do this, presumably because they're used for built-in searches, even though i've deleted them
b0at
maybe there's a copy of them somewhere
unfortunately, the bookmarks manager doesn't have a "keyword" column, so you can't just scan a list and tell which it is.
actually, search bookmarks for "%s" and you'll see a list of all the keywords that use the form GET method (the form POST method ones don't show up that way)
kjn
well, if i can somehow restore the builtin searches that i deleted, i guess that would work
i was really just trying to update the urls for the google search (g) and google maps search (m)
i'm a bit ... incredulous, tbh, that firefox isn't letting me save new keyword searches with those keywords
especially after deleting the old ones
b0at
the simplest way to get the defaults back is to start a new profile (firefox -profilemanager -no-remote) and copy between bookmark managers, or export from one and import into the other
i guess
kjn
(Action) sighs
there's no way this can't be a bug
b0at
i've never heard of it working without a bookmark somewhere, since that's what it pulls from. unless the places.sqlite database is horribly corrupted.
this extension lets you sort by keyword field: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/auto-sort-bookmarks/?src=search
kjn
i use "g foo" ALL the time, and now it doesn't work, simply because I apparently went about updating the search url in the wrong way
b0at
how did you update it?

kjn
this isn't an add-on, b0at. it's the searches saved under "Keyword Searches" when you bring up "Show all bookmarks"
b0at
i know
which is why there has to be a bookmark somewhere with the keyword "g" or it wouldn't do anything
oh, unless it's using the default search thingy and all your searches happen to be prepended with "g "...
kjn
i created a new keyword search by right-clicking in the google search bar, and gave it the keyword "g". then i deleted the existing one.
b0at
yeah, that sounds right
kjn
i didn't realize, until now, that firefox is refusing to use "g" or "m" as a keyword
so now i've deleted the original keyword searches, and apparently have no way to create new ones using those keywords
it's enters "g" as the keyword after i type it in, but if i click on another bookmark and then go back to it, it's reverted to what was there before. in this case, that's nothing
maldridge
I'm running firefox on ubuntu 14.04 on a network where homes are on an NFS share and firefox is unusably slow, is there a way to figure out why it is so slow?
kjn
*it* enters "g" ....
b0at
hm, duplicate keywords should be allowed, even if it doesn't do anything. does editing other fields and other bookmarks work?
kjn
yeah, editing other fields and bookmarks works
although it does appear that, if i enter a conflicting keyword, it reverts it as soon as i tab out of the field
b0at
huh, that's newish. yeah, i get the same reverting behavior
kjn
for example, "z" is used for amazon, and entering that as the keyword for another search instantly reverts the keyword back
oh great. "w" for wikipedia and "d" for dictionary are broke too.
i apparently broke literally every keyword search i do
b0at
so either there is another "g" bookmarks hidden somewhere, and you'll need an extension to sort by keyword or export bookmarks and grep through them, or the bookmarks are corrupt.
*another copy of all keywords hidden somewhere
which is easy to do by dragging around accidentally, and it a lot less catastrophic than a corrupt database
kjn
is xmarks f'ing things up? >:-[
well, i got "w" and "d" to work again by overwriting my bookmarks from xmarks. "g" and "m", however, refuse to go back /sigh
maldridge
any ideas on the network filesystem issues I mentioned above?
b0at
maldridge: turning off disk cache might help
maldridge
b0at: where would I find that setting on disk, the entire GUI is non-responsive
b0at
hm, the disk cache wouldn't affect ui responsiveness...
maldridge
I'm getting tons of exceptions related to PlaceUtil I think
I can reload and see what it is exactly
b0at
i guess it's timing out on buffered io on the places database, which it hits for bookmarks and history. in that case, disabling history or running in incognito mode might help, since then it shouldn't write anything to disk.
*private mode
maldridge
that doesn't make sense though, its a 1gbps link back to the disks, and I can hit files with no issue at that speed
PlacesUtils.history is undefined, which is then followed by a backtrace
private mode is no better either, it takes a while to load the window, and doesn't paint it at any respectable speed

nuking the site from orbit seemed to work. at least for now.
now to reinstall all my add-ons....

Can anyone confirm this bug? When the address bar has focus, Ctrl+K (give focus to search bar) does nothing
xangua

Evidlo
xangua: Is after you give the address bar focus?
xangua
press control+l and then control+k
Evidlo
Yeah, the second one doesn't work fo rme
xangua
give focus with my mouse and then press control+k
Evidlo
Doesn't work either way
b0at
seems to work for me on windows
but there are a lot of extensions and window manager features that can interfere with shortcuts
xangua
flash can steal firefox focus too
Evidlo
I disabled all my extensions, and I don't have flash installed
krumelmonster
Hi. I'm using firefox aurora and I've set flash plugin to click-to-play. I'm very annoyed by the popup bar that asks if I want to run flash. I'd rather just go with the icon in the adress bar and not see this anymore: http://i.imgur.com/L9i1bfB.png Is that possible?
The reason why I find it especially annoying is that it will pop up a few seconds after I load the page moving down my page content. However completely enabling/disabling flash is not an option at the moment.

Hello. After I installed mpv as player on my computer it somehow affected my video playback in ff so it have now video artifacts such as wrong colors. What may be the problem? My OS is Ubuntu 14.04
krumelmonster
Perkol: When playing html5 videos?
Perkol
Yes
krumelmonster
What does about:plugins say about your video codecs?
Perkol
Well I have OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc.
That's it
krumelmonster
Don't think I can help you but I had a similar issue some time ago, was a bug but I don't remember if it was in the video codec or my drivers. Maybe check if those are up to date.

I tried downgrading from beta 40 to release 39 and it didn't help
any suggestions?

I installed XFCE4 for my mother but she is complaining that when trying to insert a picture in Facebook she cannot see a preview of the pictures. Like filenames with a preview. Is there a way to get a preview?
I got this dialog when I try to upload an image: http://i.imgur.com/7LrH0vc.png
But I needed one with thumbnails preview. What can I do?
qwyos
Hello. Is there a way (preferrably a magic switch in about:config) to disable search function of address bar?
Okay, I found out - keyword.enabled = false and browser.fixup.alternate.enabled = false.
Aria1
This channel is... very inactive
xangua
hexhaxtron: I see the preview there
hexhaxtron
xangua, but I need it above the filenames and somewhat big.
xangua
then get involved in gnome development¿ because that dialog is not from firefox
hexhaxtron
xangua, can I change to another dialog?
