is it possible to get firefox to connect to a wss server using a self-signed cert?
works from chrome but not firefox
or is there a way to get more information about what it doesn't like? the console just says Firefox can't establish a connection to the server

Can I force Nightly to check for updates?
I installed an update a couple days ago and it's been very crashy every since.
kbrosnan
help or [?] > about firefox
assuming it is a mozilla build
and that it will stay open long enough to download the update
meretrix
ah yup, there it is
thanks
kbrosnan
np
meretrix
eh.. still crashes every time I load gmail
hopefully all of the auto crash reports I've been sending are useful
kbrosnan

hey
so i installed noscript and it disabled everything on my banking site. i can only see text. whitelisting the site doesnt do any good. even disabling noscript and removing it doesnt help. how do i reset the config if any?
noscript messes up more things than it fixes! never install it
auscompgeek
I use it just fine
theos
looks like noscript turned off js on that page only. is there a way to reset everything for one page? enable js/scripts etc
auscompgeek
(Action) chucks the NoScript documentation at theos
jwash
anyone know of a addon which will make firefox andorid have a normal tab bar?
theos
auscompgeek i uninstalled/removed noscript. BUT ff is still blocking that page
auscompgeek
theos: not noscript's fault.
theos
auscompgeek whose fault is it then? ff? how do i reset it?
maybe noscript has a config that ff follows? and even after removing noscript, the config is still being used?
auscompgeek
I have no idea what you've done to your setup, so I can't comment. And no, NoScript doesn't interfere with normal Firefox configuration.
theos
alright. i will try to figure it out
oh wow! ff was using the older version of the page

I'm using a style like this: img{filter:invert(1);} to invert colors of all images in all sites (installed via stylish or custom css, or directly in <style> tag). It worked until I updated to firefox 39. any idea why?
auscompgeek
rockfruit: works fine for me
rockfruit
auscompgeek thanks.
In my console, I see "Expected 'none' or URL but found 'invert('. Error in parsing value for 'filter'. Declaration dropped."
and it just refuzles to work. :/ giving up isn't really an option, but I'm doing it anyway, for now.
I feel like one of those poor chaps in horror movies, eyes taped open and slayer at volume 11.
auscompgeek
are you sure you're running firefox 39?
if you are, chances are you've disabled layout.css.filters.enabled
rockfruit
auscompgeek...... I wasn't.
</sheepish>
auscompgeek
well, there you go :P
rockfruit
Thanks :) my sanity is slowly osmoting back in
oh, yes... out of the lovely soothing blackness my images are rendering correctly.
time to uninstall all the abortive addons I threw in there.

Hi there, I have set the option "do not accept cookies" and I have set an exception for wikipedia, with the option "authorize for the session", but when I close and re-open Firefox, my wikipedia cookies are still there, while I expect them to be deleted, since I terminated firefox. Is this the same bug as https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=886832 ?
auscompgeek
Sindarus: no.
that bug is about localStorage

Sindarus
oh. Okay.
and, I know a bug similar to the one I sent : when I choose "keep until firefox closes", my cookies aren't deleted. Or is that the same bug this time ?
(I meant, my cookies aren't deleted when firefox closes, of course)
and, doesn't it seem a bit weird that mozilla's website reads "Committed to you, your privacy and an open Web" in big, and at the same time this bug here https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=886832 has been there for 2 years and doesn't seem like it'll ever be fixed ?
"When its personal, choose Firefox. " humm... I'm not so sure about that after all...
sadly

hi I run Firefox 39 on my Windows box. I got redirected to v9.com all time I open a new tab. This is the v9 redirect virus. With Kaspersky rescue cd's registry editor I removed all the v9.com references from the registry but the problem persists. What can I do to remove this v9 thingy?
auscompgeek
xvzf: open about:config, reset browser.newtab.url

Hi, does SYNC also sync Cookies? Any way to do this or is this dangerous?
Hasimir
does anyone know if there's a way to force firefox to release disk it's writing to as virtual memory? or to force it to accept an upper limit? or do I just have to remove it and install it on a separate system I can classify as disposable - because running out of memory and getting kernel panics as a result is veering into affecting work and as much as I like it, it doesn't win that contest
Cork
Hasimir: uh, the kernel is managing the virtual memory
not fireox
or are you talking about the cache folder?
Hasimir
true, but firefox is the memory hog that always fills it
Cork
memory hog?
Hasimir
I suppose I could chroot it instead ...
Cork
you could use a cgroup
but ya, be prepared that firefox will crash if you prevent it from using virtual memory
Hasimir
not all virtual memory
Cork
cause if a process hits oom there isn't anything that can save it
Hasimir
I just want it to have an upper limit
but I'd rather a browser crash than a total system failure
Cork
you should prob locate the extension that leaks memory instead
unless you have a very limited set o resources
Hasimir
I should, but narrowing that down will take awhile and before then I have other things which must be done
Cork
Hasimir
ah, yeah, this may not help this time (but saved for elsewhere so thanks)
this system is os x
alright, I guess I'll divert all the FF stuff into the freebsd vm until I can work out something more permanent
Cork
ah
Hasimir: ya, osx doesn't have cgroup
but chroot doesn't restrict memory usage so that won't help
Hasimir
ah well, I'll just take the VM route
I was hoping to avoid that, but it's better then nothing
of course I'm installing FF in a jail in the VM too
hmm ... that's interesting ...
technically it's pcbsd, rather than free (I can be slack even when not running slack) and vbox is fine with letting it use the full retina display, not quite as well, but no letterbox or similar display
hellyeah
yeah
anyone around?
got a question
pc_magas

after removing all the buttons from the silly menu thing that serves no purpose (hoping that would let me remove it), i'm rewarded with http://pr0n.fea.st/ff-damn-unicorn.png
(Action) is not amused
it bounces around and switches to color when under the mouse
please tell me who coded this instead of a delete the damn menu feature
