cariveri
Hi. How to reset the authentication session?
kbrosnan
cariveri: html auth? clear private data -> active logins
pakcjo
hello, I'm in linux and nothing in this page works: http://www.jwplayer.com/html5/hls/ is there a way to enable hls?
kbrosnan
firefox does not do hlt
er hls
it supports dash
pakcjo
dash?
kbrosnan
it says so at the top of the page
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_Adaptive_Streaming_over_HTTP
pakcjo
kbrosnan: is there any site to confirm that my version/installation works with it fine?
kbrosnan
which it?
pakcjo
dash

kbrosnan
any youtube video, right click stats for nerds. though on linux you would need to set media.mediasource.webm.enabled to true which can cause playback issues
pakcjo
that works... it my fav p*rn site the one that doesn't :'(
cariveri
kbrosnan: Thank. I could login again with user@site .
kbrosnan
yep that is http auth as well
ZeloZelos
stupid yahoo hijacked when i make a new tab, i removed the addon, but now it just opens to a blank page, i found browser.newtab.url, can i just change it to the default new tab?
kbrosnan
right cick choose reset
ZeloZelos
ohhh, thanks kbrosnan ;)
i suppose i could have discovered that, but i dont like to dip around if i am not sure of what i am doing
it should have done that when i removed the addon
krushia
is there an extension that will let me execute a custom command via the context menu? like if i wanted to open a url with youtube-dl
ntz
hello
one question, does monkeys or some severely retarded ppl contribute to a firefox ?
htop
anyhow, this retarded, sucking and bloated sh*t makes things like konqueror still living, so maybe thanks for that ... thanks for konqueror (at least from my POV)
b0at
the only bloat that's been added lately is the reader thing, which runs on page load to tell whether it can operate, and you can turn that off. "pocket" and "hello" don't run until you tell them to, though they should have been extensions instead.
there are far more troubling things than "bloat" that firefox faces. performance has steadily been improving for a while now.
ntz
hmm .... I have recent linux (suse) and I simply can't have open in **curent firefox the amount of tabs as I wish (and as I did in past with older firefox)
firefox requires more than 4GB or RSS for something like 40 tabs (wtf ??), my whole windows VM which I need because of MSO runs with 2GB whole
I have to pkill firefox several times / day to counter effect its greediness
fu*k it .... I started using konqueror and konqueror with the same amount of tabs DOES NOT suck like that even by 50%
yes, it has **sometimes some artifacts on pages rendering but that's all
my biggest problem is, that when I wake up my laptop from ram, firefox process starts instantly devouring all available cpu resources
so after each waking up from ram I have to pkill firefox
and again, running now with konqueror and IT DOES NOT SUCK LIKE THAT with completely same use
b0at
yeah, that's not normal. but troubleshooting it would take a lot of effort, and you've found something that works for now.
ntz
b0at: I tested "old" firefox (version 24) and seems that it works 33% resource intensive as **current firefox
b0at
you might like the current Extended Standard Release version, it's at version 35 or so right now, and gets bug fixes backported without new feature that might cause problems.
suse should have that in its repos
ntz
in my repos is this `39.0-78.1' version as current
b0at: I installed v24 from previous release
b0at
ok, if that works that's good. just that the ESR version is "safer" because of bug fixes
ntz
hmm
so what would you suggest ?
would you suggest using v24 when it works simply better by miles than all **current versions ?
b0at
try the latest ESR. if it still runs away with memory, go back to 24 or see if icecat/iceweasel is available and acts differently
ntz
ok
b0at
hm, i guess the latest esr is actually 38.1 or so. not as far back as i thought.

ntz
b0at: btw, this 39 version showed me what I've never seen in my whole unix carreer, I was used that versions 30+ were sometimes using 130% of cpu, but this current 39 shows me 345% 10 times per day :D
b0at
yeah, they're turning on multiple processes at some point, so that would be possible
ntz
b0at: btw, ofc it has something to do with unholy flash
b0at
oh, flash should just be disabled... if that's the problem, no reason to fiddle with your firefox install
it's ancient on linux anyway. use google's pepper flash either with firefox/konq + the adapter called "fresh player plugin", or just with chromium itself
ntz
the sucking I'm talking about happens mostly when I have opened tabs with pages where there are lot of flash items ... but why firefox process sucks and not flash itself is kind mysterious for me
b0at
firefox somewhat sandboxes and encapsulates the flash process, as i understand it
ntz
obviously
b0at
at the very least, set it to "ask to activate" and try it without anything activated. use html5 video whenever possible, use the "livestreamer" application for streaming video that doesn't work over html5 yet, etc
ntz
but even if you do ``pkill -9f libflash'' (that should kill flash threads) and flash items are grey (telling oops, flash died, blah, blah) firefiox process keeps devouring all cpu
b0at
maybe use a separate profile for flash things so it doesn't affect daily browsing
ntz
b0at: support.oracle.com is actually my mostly visited flash thing
and it's all in damned flash
b0at
man, and i thought the stink of oracle stopped at java...
ntz
well, I don't like oracle but unfortunatelly I'm paid for giving support to theirs (sun - stolen from Sun) servers
# rpm -qf `which firefox`
MozillaFirefox-30.0-29.1.x86_64
^^ actually trying this version .... seems also better by miles than all 35+ versions
even with old cache (I didn't delete cache mostly created by 35+ versions)
b0at
they use brightcove for video. there might be tricks to get it to deliver html5 video, but i haven't tried them.
ntz
html5 is pathetically wrong .. even wronger than unholy flash :D
b0at
like the param in this solution could be added with greasemonkey: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8229621/html5-video-with-brightcove
ntz
hmm
b0at
or it could generate a link to open in an external player. there's at least one extension to open things in mpv, for instance.
ntz
hmm
b0at
though it has to get the bare video link first, of course
ntz
anyhow, the way things work these days are:: a-ha, there's firefox update, okay, clapity-clap (keyboard), it's here .... after hour ``wtf'' and downgrading to previous versions
^^ I did this with every firefox update above 32 or so
b0at
the last answer here links to more details about how the brightcove player works: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16302702/html5-support-brightcove-video (if you want to follow up with page modification)
ntz
always going back to 28 or so
b0at: thanks, already reading (bookmaring and opening) your links
b0at
and maybe for just the video, mozilla shumway would fuction better. it's a flash plugin replacement project. nowhere near complete, but for this, especially with an older flash file, it might work fine.
ntz
yeah
also I'd wonder what's that linux flash 11.2 when on windows is current flash 15 or so
b0at
yeah, adobe abandonded linux. google's delivering newer builds.
ntz
okay, I have in repos chromium-pepper-flash
^^ is that the mentioned "google flash" ?
b0at
https://github.com/i-rinat/freshplayerplugin + chrome pepper flash works for some people. "fresh player plugin" might be in your repos, too
yes
ntz
hmm
okay, I'll test it also
b0at: thanks for your input, I'm now calmer than when I entered :)
yep, I have freshplayerplugin (with descr "PPAPI2NPAPI compatibility layer")
okay, I learned some things :D
^^ in repos ofc, not yet installed
Aelius
Is there a way to unload tabs through the javascript console?
mices
how do i stop the "this plugin is vulnerable and should be updated" message from flash?
or rather from firefox
Aelius
mices: update or uninstall flash
mices
i've had enough
i update it all the time it just keeps coming back
