what is the process for me to investigate a massive slowdown in firefox in the last two nightly builds on linux? i'd like to open a bug report, but i don't know what information to gather
ShalokShalom
start it with debug symbols and gdb ?
like gdb firefox in command line
yoasif
with the good version and the not good version?
i wouldn't know how to interpret the gdb result...
kadoban
So & can anyone explain exactly what this pocket thing is? It sounds & indistinguishable from bookmarks, as far as I can tell?
b0at
it supposedly saves the content of the page, too, in case it chages later
kadoban
Hmm. That sounds potentially useful I guess. Thanks
b0at
also i guess syncronizes between devices, which i've heard a lot of people walk about
*talk
kadoban
Yeah I noticed that part, but sounded just like sync, but if it does contents as well as just doing the URL I could see that being useful to & someone who's not me, heh.
b0at
yep

TommyC: I searched for "adobe" in about:config and nothing appeared
b0at
varaindemian: about:plugins
varaindemian
TommyC: sorry, now I saw your second message
b0at: there is just Shockwave Flash
Version: 11.2.202.481
b0at
yes, that's the flash plugin
that's the ancient linux flash plugin version, because adobe won't support it any more
there are two ways i know of to get an update flash plugin: 1. use google chromium or chrome and the pepper flash plugin (may or may not be a separate package on your distro)
varaindemian
so what can I do in this case?
b0at: I see
b0at
or 2. get pepper flash and the bridge for regular browsers calld the "fresh player plugin". the source is here: https://github.com/i-rinat/freshplayerplugin and it's in arch linux's AUR, for instance.
kstenger
b0at: that would solve my issue too, it substitutes stockwave flash I imagine, right?
b0at
yes. from what i've heard, the fresh player plugin isn't perfect, but for your generic flash
generic flash video player should work fine with the adapter
kstenger
I'll give it a try, thanks!
b0at
but sites like youtube and vimeo and many others work with html5 video now, so it's worth installing all available gstreamer-1.0 packages and trying the web without flash for a while, too
maybe mozilla's shumway will advance enough so that at least newgrounds.com works without flash

kstenger
oh, good

Does anybody know where color management is located in terms of firefox's codebase? I want to fix it
Looks like the issue is that firefox ignores PNG colorimetry data if there is only a gAMA tag present (but no cHRM tag)
(even on grayscale images)

hi. I have plenty of RAM, and firefox is leaky anyway. So why do I want firefox cache to disk instead of just RAMing it?
bad idea to set firefox disk cache folder to /tmp/forefox_tmp/ (ramdisk)?
auscompgeek
moobase: why not just disable the disk cache at that point?
Peng
brosnan: Quick PM?
moobase
auscompgeek: because I want a cache?
auscompgeek
moobase: you would still have a cache? I don't understand the question.
moobase
auscompgeek: limited to 32MB yes
cache is not the same thing as storing one page in memory.

auscompgeek
moobase: I dunno about you, but here on planet Earth, a web page should never be >32MB :P
moobase: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.cache.memory.capacity
moobase
auscompgeek: If you have 8 GB, it defaults to 32MB (your source). That is also an upper limit hardcoded in the source code. The page you're looking at is not what you think it is. Also, the current loaded page (you're speaking of) is by definition not in the background as some cache, it's in the "front" and can be any size.
I do this for a living bro. I just set the disk cache target to some ramdisk.

hello. How to make a button that will flip browser.display.document_color_use values OR how to make a CSS style for stylish from color options in preferences menu?
nicoit
Hi! Firefox doesn't play music on soundcoud.com, says "There was a problem playing this track". My system is ubuntu 14.04, can you help me?
ShalokShalom

Rust3dCor3

nicoit
Rust3dCor3: chrome plays well. Chrome uses flash too, doesn't he?
ShalokShalom: swisscows.ch doesn't play too

Something is installing CoupMania advertising software on my mozilla
without telling
how to block?
Rust3dCor3
nicoit: maybe there is some translation package (flash - firefox line) that is not installed :/
i installed gnash and it plays well

hi, i have a problem with missing characters in FF 38.0.5 (Fedora Linux, Nouveau driver). It looks like this: https://unsee.cc/dubezamo/ Its working fine in different browsers. I've tried switching of custom page fonts but its still the same. Any hints?
zdm
m|chael: I've had that issue before when I was on openSuse, people were telling me it was an issue because I was using a custom font (Terminus)
It happen all the time and I always had to log out or restart
I dont know how to fix though, but maybe try switching fonts
m|chael
system font or just in the firefox settings?
zdm
m|chael: Try firefox setting first and see if that helps\
Then change system if it doesnt help
I had been using terminus as my system font and specifically in firefox settings
m|chael
zdm: changing the fonts in firefox didn't help (some fonts make it worse). Tried system fonts without restart kde but that didn't help either. Will try it later with a whole restart
very strange: if I remove the italic style the whole text is visible! Switching italic back on - characters are missing.
zdm
m|chael: Well, sweet, you found out whats fu*king it up.
I have no idea how/why italic fonts would cause missing characters though
I dont understand fonts hah.
m|chael
but no solution :) switchin off italic fonts on all webpages :) I'm trying to change dpi settings in kde perhaps its some subpixel rendering stuff
but its strange that it only affects firefox. Chrome and konquerer are rendering the fonts correctly

Hi, who has set my defaultenginename to bing? Any update?
Default is still Google, but someone has set it to Bing and that was definitly not me :)
anddam
not me either
can anyone on Mac try to reproduce if hitting command+right/left arrow key does scroll indefinitely this website https://www.tradingview.com/chart/RIZRxAbt/ ?
it's not supposed to have such a scrolling feature and I'd like to figure if it's firefox misbehaving or the website that's crappy
alanjf
anddam: On Windows pressing left/right arrow byt itself scrolls the graph left/right very slowly, pressing ctrl + left/rigth arrow scrolls it left/right very quickly. I'm not seeing the page scroll indefinately vertically.
I'll check on a mac i na few min though.
It does look like this is one of those sites that "hijacks" keyboard input though. Maybe OS X reacts different to that.
What version of Firefox are you using btw?
Hashed_42
Hello, installed ubuntu 14.04, uninstalled prepackaged firefox and reinstall from software center. I've also tried disconnecting and reconnecting to my firefox account, even says im successfully connected - but all my bookmarks are gone, all my feeds are gone and sync doesnt sync past the default. Plz help! I put a lot of work into the compliation and organization of my firefox browser. This is very upsetting. Also unable to locate
an appropriate support@firefox email =\
any suggestions or ideas would be very much appreciated
also noticed the new "Pocket" - running 39.0 - not sure, but may have been running v35.0 - sync process however was the same - successful loggin
alanjf
Hashed_42: Have you tried just copying your profile to your ubuntu user from whereever you had it before?
Hashed_42
Ive tried DL'ing "old firefox data" but it did not seem to contain any of my sync'd info - as if i cant grab accurate "old data" - will retry now - thx for the suggestion
AlexRussia
hey!
Why do I get the message in console of rasp.yandex.ru:
21:22:21.497 The resource at "https://yandex.st/lego/_/La6qi18Z8LwgnZdsAr1qy1GwCwo.gif" was blocked because tracking protection is enabled.1 074EZH_tis
?
alanjf
AlexRussia: I'm guessing you have the prevent tracking setting enabled in Options -> Privacy.
(Which is generally a good thing.)
AlexRussia
alanjf: yes, after last update which generate the...thing. Even if I'd uncheck the thing and restart ff, nothing new happens :(
alanjf: I trying to say that after last update I can't fetch css and js things from the site I guess, that's why the interface seems like web 1.0 :D
