Hey everyone.
Has anyone ever tried to add regex support to Firefox's in-page search before?
b0at
yes: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/regex-find/?src=search
breadmonster
Yeah, I've used that extension, it really feels like a hack.
Is there a way to implement it in the browser?
First class?
Since FF is open source I thought I could do it in my spare time.
b0at
probably. not sure it would make a difference. it would likely be implemented the same.
but if they're hiding the javascript toggle checkbox and the ability to disintegrate things like pocket, i don't see how regex search would ever make it in.

Are there bugs in libmozalloc.so ?
(segfaults)
or does my pc need a checkup ?
MrJiks
b0at: Thanks! I am on Mac and there seems to be no way to do it!
I wish to version the configs of Firefox; should I be fine with versioning the directory with that funny name in profiles?

Reader View is awesome.
That is all.

when using the new pocket service feature, even if i log in at getpocket.com, clicking the "save to pocket" icon immediately logs me out of pocket and displays a blank white popup window under the pocket icon
i have third party cookies allowed for getpocket.com and i can even suspend Self-Destructive Cookies, it still doesn't work. what might this be? using iceweasel 38.0.1
it even kills my existing pocket session that's in the other tab
b0at
i haven't tried it, but have you tried allowing all third-party cookies? often these services rely on different domains for no good reason, the way yahoo redirects you to ytimg.com and stuff

Psy-Q
b0at: yes, i enabled third-party cookies for getpocket.com. do i need to enable other domains?
ah, maybe the pocket people have that documented
though their docs are more general-purpose than technical it seems :|
i take that back
it's documented :)
http://help.getpocket.com/customer/portal/articles/1571143-trouble-saving-with-pocket-s-browser-extensions
their take seems to be that getpocket.com is the only 3rd party cookie exception you need
b0at
hm ok
Psy-Q
i just double-checked that i didn't misspell the name, it seems correct :|
will now try in safe mode
it works in safe mode
i'll enable add-ons one by one to see which one is the culprit
crap. now it works
i think it might just have been some maintenance at getpocket.com then
sorry for wasting your time :D
but i have another one i can waste your time with: could someone help me verify if/that this is an issue in firefox/iceweasel? i can reproduce it on 3 different debian jessie machines and from 3 different networks, AND in safe mode :|
the issue is this: https://gist.github.com/psy-q/3b1e60ef70e7e2904b0c
you'd need a github acccount to reproduce
b0at
hm
Psy-Q
it could be that i have broken all of my firefoxes and the brokenness has synced to all of them, but that wouldn't explain why i can repro it in safe mode?
b0at
safe mode is supposed to disable the js jit compiler, so maybe it's just a code path that doesn't get enough attention
any errors in the js console?
Psy-Q
b0at: oh, it also happens in normal mode! i just gave the instruction with safe mode because i thought that's a better way to make sure none of the addons play a role
b0at: unfortunately not :(
b0at
i get the same in fx developer 40
Psy-Q
oh!
so i should really report it then?
b0at
well, the .error element is empty
Psy-Q
the github guys say it's my problem, i tried in Konqueror and there it works
b0at: fantastic, thanks so much. i guess i can report it then without getting laughed at
b0at
i can't make sense of their script enough to find the validation code, but you're welcome
Psy-Q
aha, so maybe the bug is in their code after all
i will copy/paste this conversation to aaron from github, ok?
b0at
presumably it should populate the <dd> with a string from js
Psy-Q
yeah, because the error string does hang around somewhere
it just doesn't end up in that element
b0at
oh, i wasn't using the debugger correctly :P
Psy-Q
aha :)
b0at
no, i dunno
you can paste whatever
Psy-Q
:)

are they firefox bugs? i have issues on this website with firefox but not chromium http://fxpblog.co/

Hello ! I have an issue with firefox that attempts to connect a site (shoutwiki.com) with SSL even though I type "http://" and not "https://" and I have not "https everywhere". What else can be the cause of such behaviour ?
(It bothers me because the website redirects me to a dummy page "please no SSL" and I cannot access the actual wiki.)

hi to everyone
has somebody had a problem with the latest Firefox 38 while using flash plug-in for voice sounds
like google-traslator
no sound heard anymore
HyP3r
Hey all, I'm using Firefox under Linux (Kubuntu 14.04). Firefox takes up to 25% percent CPU Usage. How can I determine which task/addon/subprocess is using the cpu?
Walex
HyP3r: crazy question :-)
Caterpillar
in about config, in media.mediasource what do you think of webmp?
I have noticed that if I enable it, some 1080p html 5 videos stutter, instead if I disable it, they seems to run smoother. Can you confirm that?
Walex
Caterpillar: totally platform dependent
Caterpillar
Walex: I am on Fedora
Walex
Caterpillar: and?
Caterpillar: perhaps "platform dependent" is not clear enough...
Caterpillar
Walex: nVidia GTX260 with 340xx nvidia drivers, phenom x4 965 16 GB RAM
so if anybody has a similar machine with nvidia drivers, ping me ;-)
Walex
Caterpillar: unless I had exactly the identical configuration including the same version of Firefox, X Windows, X windows drivers, etc...
Caterpillar: do whatever gets you the best result on your particula configuration. There are very many platform dependent variables involved.
Caterpillar
Walex: of course, but a personal feedback would be nice
HyP3r
Walex: why is that a crazy question?
kubast2
Hey does your browser support hardware/gpu accelerated video decoding on html5 ?
mmango
hello
is irc.mozilla.org the same as moznet?
b0at
i think so. that seems to be how it's been rendered in chatzilla before.
according to https://wiki.mozilla.org/IRC
mmango
Do I have to go to moznet to ask about thunderbird?
They're pretty inactive
b0at
that's the first choice, but you can ask in here, too
mmango
Ah ok. Its just a question about filters
There's a setting to create a new filter from an email address in the inbox screen
Is there any way to add an email to an existing filter?
Without going into filter settings.
Walex
HyP3r: because all sort of times try to use as much CPU of your machine as they can. They don't have to pay for it. The browser does not consume CPU by itself.
s/sort of times/sort of sites/
