Tazmain
hi all, Everytime I start a youtube video the plugin-container "service" just keep climbing in memory till its about 10.8GB and then my hard driver starts to swap
advcomp2019_
Tazmain, are you using flash or html5?
auscompgeek
Cork: ah, that explains a lot
CPngN
html5 wouldn't use a plugin container
advcomp2019_
CPngN, yea.. thats why i asked but he left just before i sent that
Caspy7
But what is a plugin container called "service"?
pollei
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1065729 Implement the FIDO Alliance u2f -- I just bought a yubikey neo that should arrive within a week; do you still need testers? If so who should I contact?
Caspy7
pollei: this isn't an official Mozilla channel FYI, but you might leave a comment about your question in the bug.
pollei
Oh ok, I thought this was a official channel, I'll hunt around a bit more; thanks

Caspy7
pollei: well, even the Firefox channel on Moznet is mainly populated by volunteers. I'm not sure if you're going to run into someone there that's involved in that particular bug
pollei
yes in a lot of ways it's a niche thing
Caspy7
pollei: I'd say do your homework on that bug, see if maybe mozilla has a wiki page related to it, but otherwise possibly comment in the bug
pollei
no wiki page, but a blog entry or two . http://benjaminkerensa.com/2015/01/23/get-a-free-u2f-yubikey-to-test-on-firefox-nightly
looks like you already knew that
advcomp2019_
pollei, i got one of those when that happen
pollei
ok I just got 20% off github special, splurged on the more expensive model
so I just was wondering if they are testing on nightly or aurora , I'd be willing to help if they needed it, but they likely have enough testers
auscompgeek
there are never enough testers :P
pollei
OK I added a comment to that bug; we'll see what happens
sebie
Is it possible to change the client id on irc in Thunderbird?
Default is (~Thunderbir@my-ip-address) to something like (sebie@my-ip-address) ?
auscompgeek
sebie: this isn't #thunderbird, but no, you can't change your ident in Thunderbird :P
b0at
it should be somewhere near where you set the "real name", and it's called "user name"
auscompgeek
b0at: neither option exists
Caspy7
auscompgeek: to be fair that channel is pretty well always dead as I understand
auscompgeek
tl;dr: get a real IRC client
(libpurple-based clients don't count either)
sebie
auscompgeek: as Caspy7 said, #thunderbird is pretty much dead.
is there a FR for it? Because I wouldn't mind having it in thunderbird.
Caspy7
What's "FR"?
wouldn't mind having what in thunderbird?
sebie
oh sorry, `feature request` or an equivalent of it.
auscompgeek
file a bug?
Caspy7
auscompgeek
Caspy7: wrong product, should be filed under Thunderbird
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Thunderbird&component=Instant+Messaging

Caspy7
auscompgeek: then what is the instantbird product? and why is it there?
auscompgeek
Caspy7: it is Instantbird http://www.instantbird.com/
sebie
thank you to both of you.
auscompgeek
Caspy7: which is, as far as I'm concerned, a dead project.
Caspy7
auscompgeek: so the instant messenger in TB is not Instantbird?
auscompgeek
Caspy7: no. they use the same core, however (as can be seen in the list of products).
Caspy7
ok
sebie: then go with the second link that auscompgeek provided
sebie
Caspy7: already did :).
b0at
i should have realized they'd rip it out and replace it with something less featureful
auscompgeek
b0at: eh? afaik Thunderbird has never exposed that option
the core does allow setting username and realname, as one would expect; I seem to recall having that option in Instantbird anyway
b0at
i thought i remembered it, and i found some old reference to user and real name tooltips, but the whole thing looks different than it did
not worth looking at old versions, really. it wasn't any nicer back then.
at least it's improving.
auscompgeek
sebie: hm, actually, you can set it using a hidden pref
the core looks up the prefs itself: https://hg.mozilla.org/comm-central/file/tip/chat/protocols/irc/irc.js#l817
GenericAccountPrototype is defined in https://hg.mozilla.org/comm-central/file/tip/chat/modules/jsProtoHelper.jsm
sebie
auscompgeek: wait, so all I need to do is to set the pref in about:config?
auscompgeek
sebie: yes
although it'd be nice to have it in the UI
sebie
ok set, let me restart tb
advcomp2019_
o gezz.. talk in two different channels about the same thing
auscompgeek
sebie: the pref is messenger.account.<account id>.options.username
sebie
with the account id being, what?
nvm, give me a sec
auscompgeek
I can't tell you what your Thunderbird account IDs are :P
sebie
brb
.
auscompgeek
I gave up trying to figure out how to set the realname though.
sebie
heh, thats fine. I am just happy you helped me with this.
it seems to be one of those features no one really uses in ThunderBird.. meh
b0at
one thing says it takes real name from the account's display name, but that might be old
advcomp2019_
i wonder where thunderbird stores the chat protocols because i am wonder about one
sebie
b0at: yeah I am playing around with that, now
auscompgeek
advcomp2019_: eh?
advcomp2019_
auscompgeek, o i am mainly wondering about facebook side of things because xmpp is dead and i am wondering what it uses since it connects
auscompgeek
advcomp2019_: eh? the chat core is still using xmpp to 'connect' to facebook chat
by 'connect', I of course mean it would try to do so unsuccessfully
advcomp2019_
auscompgeek, yea.. if you want to know facebook-xmpp is basically dead since lots of xmpp clients cant and will not connect.. thats why i am asking
auscompgeek, this is what i am talking about: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/chat
auscompgeek
you're telling me this as though I didn't already know :P
advcomp2019_
auscompgeek, i did not know you knew :P
auscompgeek, the about:config make it sounds like this: https://github.com/jgeboski/purple-facebook but i cant find much in the thunderbird source that talks about it tho.. thats why i am asking
auscompgeek
how on earth does about:config have anything to do with purple-facebook?
advcomp2019_
in the about:config, it shows messenger.account.account1.prpl with value of prpl-facebook and prpl is short for purple/pidgin in lots of place
that is for the facebook account
lapion
Hello,
I have closed a tab that for a page that was using 1.2G memory.
sorry, I meant 855MiB
however in the about:memory (live measurement) it shows up as "839.839.73 MB (43.59%) -- top(none)/detached" and none of GC , CC or "Minimize memory usage" actually cleans up that page.
Caspy7
lapion: what's your problem?
lapion
Firefox will not release data space used by closed tabs
Caspy7
ah, I didn't catch that bit
Tazmain
hi all, it seems that I there is a either a memory leak in FF plugin contianer. Where do I report this to ?
Caspy7
Tazmain: if you can reproduce it, bugs are reported at http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/
Tazmain
oh I can reproduce it, happpens every time I open a video that loads flash, then I end up with a >10.8Gb plugin container memory usage
lapion
Well anyhow it's time to check the latest version of firefox to see if the frozen bug has been fixed
Caspy7
Tazmain: oh, that's Flash then
Tazmain: what's your OS?
Tazmain
Arch linux
Caspy7
Tazmain: ah, hm, you're welcome to file a bug, but this may be a Flash thing that Moz devs can't do much about .
Tazmain: you might consider using the Fresh Player instead
Tazmain
Fresh Player ?
