Can you get the generated source of a xml document in Firefox without installing plugins?

I do already have a "Web Developer" tab under tools? Is this a plugin? Because I don't remember conciously installing it
lin, where do I enter that?
b0at

or right click a page and "inspect element"
lin
In the location bar

Please reconsider removing tab groups from firefox dev edition. I absolutely love tab groups.

hi #firefox I downloaded latest releases of Firefox and Thunderbird for GNU/Linux then extracted them. I am able to run Thunderbird with double clicking but can't run Firefox via same way.
linux@gnu:~/Downloads/firefox$ ./firefox
bash: ./firefox: No such file or directory
any idea?
Peng
Me? Not especially. Does ./firefox exist? if so, what is it?
xrogaan
fsociety[00]dat: really, the system is telling you what's wrong

fsociety[00]dat
xrogaan: but file is in that directory.
b0at
run `file firefox`
Peng
Is this a weird thing about 32-vs-64-bit?
I don't remember how strange the error messages get when you do that.
xrogaan
a 64bit binary on a 32bit system?
b0at
i would expect an error other than 'not found' if the file exists at all
xrogaan
try firefox-bin otherwise?
fsociety[00]dat
64-bit system file 32-bit
Peng
b0at: You'd expect a different error message, but i'm not certain you'd get a different error message.
fsociety[00]dat
thanks all
now I downloaded the 64-bit version for me, it works :)

firefox 42 SUCKS!!! Show page source doesn't work anymore... Tree style tab also broken...
rachelfish
spaceone: View page source still works for me???
b0at
i suspect tree style tabs works for most people, or we would have heard something before now
spaceone
rachelfish: for me it just only opens about:blank
b0at: there is already a github issue
b0at
are they deprecating apis or something as the webextension api comes online? what's with all the breakage?
spaceone
https://github.com/piroor/treestyletab/issues/973
i can't find an issue/bugzilla entry about the broken 'view page source'
Caspy7
I do not believe any APIs have been deprecated for webextensions - and shouldn't be for some time
b0at
that's what i was hoping

Where does one go for a terminal iceweasel problem (Debian)?
What are the conditions (permissions, ownership, etc. ) for rebuilding the profile?
b0at
profies are in ~/.mozilla/ under user permissions. you can move, backup, delete as you please
backing up before fiddling with it is a good idea.
about:support also has a button that may work to take you directly to the profile
dashs
b0at: I get an error no matter what I have specified.
b0at: Error: Access was denied while trying to open files in your profile directory.
b0at: mine are at ~/.mozilla/firefox -- is that obsolete?

b0at
no, that should be fine. you could try just forcing the owner and permissions on .mozilla and all its contents.
dashs
drwxr-xr-x 6 dave users 4096 Apr 22 2010 .mozilla
drwxr-xr-x 3 dave users 4096 Aug 22 13:21 firefox
and I'm dave
b0at
looks okay so far. see if any of the inner files are missing w or r for your user. i think the error could result from something other than this, but you'd have to ask ##linux or #debian
you could also start a new profile to see whether firefox is working right. `firefox -ProfileManager` and click "Create new" and see if it runs
hm, it's also possible that .mozilla/firefox/profiles.ini points to a directory that doesn't exist
dashs
b0at: ok looks like inside profile.ini "Name" and "Path" should they agree? Path has a prefix magic number.
b0at
Name is only for display, Path should match the name of a directory in ~/.mozilla/firefox
(if it's a relative path)
(rather, a bare filename)
dashs
Isrelative is 1 and Path is relative to ~/.mozilla/firefox
b0at
ok
dashs
Looks like I'm unable to use firefox anymore. this is the Iceweasel branch, maybe I can install the real thing somehow?
b0at
the linux download from here might work: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
dashs
OK. I'll give it a try.
Fails same way. Never gets started.
Guess that's it for me and firefox. Thanks anyway.

firefox 42.0 is pretty buggy
and who thought it was a good idea to have full-screen fading animations? the transition itself is already laggy enough, now it takes even longer due to the fade
i tried to exit fullscreen while it was still fading and the video controls disappeared making it so that I had to kill firefox just to get rid of the black fullscreen window
why does it still take so long to exit a fullscreen video playback even when I set full-screen-api.transition-duration.leave to 0 0?
it takes at least half a second, feels really janky
meanwhile mpv can toggle between fullscreen and windowed mode instantly
b0at
yeah, i noticed that fade recently. i see why they did it, but it's annoying as heck.
kbwt
It doesn't make any sense when leaving fullscreen
entering fullscreen, I kind of understand, to prevent webpages from showing a fake browser UI
but even that would be better with a fading watermark or such
the user doesn't want to wait, the web is already sluggish enough
also the per-tab volume control could use some more features, such as mouseover + scroll-wheel for volume scaling
it looks like a typical volume control but you can only mute/unmute
dashs
Getting Error: Access was denied while trying to open files in your profile directory. Even when the directory .mozilla does not exist. WTF?
What are the required resources at start? Are they listed anywhere?
kbwt
are you using windows?
dashs
Executable runs fine for other user, so it's my home directory state (Debian 8).
kbwt
dunno then
