hello
why must ff have gtk?
can it be built without?
Ashtor
is something wrong with the firefox?
dreamcat4
i need to get or set the username (or user's home folder path) in prefs.js... how to do that please? cannot find anything on google about it.
git
firefox doesn't have usernames
Ashtor
it seems something is wrong with firefox :s
dreamcat4
git: it has default settings, which default to include the user's uername in their path.
so can't be hardcoded - i need a way around that
git
i imagine it's set to look for an environment variable
dreamcat4
git: the problem is that the default i'm overriding is the download folder - firefox appends /Downloads to that user-specific path
Ashtor
?

git
you can change that in the preferences
Caspy7
dreamcat4: I don't know what you're doing, but you might like to look at the cck2 wizard
git
i might be misunderstanding
Ashtor
Can someone help me? :)
dreamcat4
so in a site-wide prefs.js, how can i put that? tried %userprofile% - didn't work. tried putting a js function in there, didn't work either (and invalidated the prefs.js file entirely)
Caspy7
Ashtor: I don't know, but you're definitely not going to get help if you don't state your problem
dreamcat4
Caspy7: it's not solved by the cck2 wizard. i just looked in there (it's settings) - no way to template %userprofile% into a setting.
ah... i might have found something
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=518899
looks promising
now need to adapt it into this:
user_pref("browser.download.dir", "C:\\Users\\????\\Desktop");
Ashtor
there is something wrong with the firefox.. whenever i'm on a chat extension called cryptocat via firefox and when i write a message and press enter,it ask me to leave the page.. and the cryptocat looks strange when i'm on there.. but when I'm on Chrome, then its just fine.. Anything wrong with the firefox since that happen? I heard long time ago that there was some kind of signature or something
(dont remember) in a upcoming update
Caspy7
Ashtor: addon signatures are not yet enforced, so I don't think that's your problem. (I think if an addon is not yet signed it will be noted in the extensions list.)
Ashtor: it may be that the addon did not update for a new version of Firefox. Sometimes Firefox will update an API for security or what-have-you and will notify addon developers of the change, but they need to update their addons so they don't break
Ashtor: you may like to see if the developers of the addon have a more recent version that has not yet been reviewed
Philias
Ashtor: Last time I remember hearing about cryptocat, it was about it being broken, so, take care
Ashtor
Wich one of these keeps saved passwords/usernames and open tabs so the tabs stays open when reopen the browser?: Browsing and download history , Schema and search history , Cookies , Cache , Active Logins , Offline Website Data , Site Settings

Hi, is there an addon to drag on image view, instead of scroll? for large image, it's not very usable to scroll
i don't find one
hmm i can middle click sorry didnt think
cyphix
I can't make firefox open pdfs with the built-in viewer. I don't have the option "preview un firefox" in the option tab. Any idea why?
Caspy7
cyphix: so if you go to about:preferences#applications and search for PDF, does it find anything?
cyphix
Caspy7: I have 3 fields: "document PDF (application/force-download)", "document PDF (application/x)", and "PDF document"
but in the action column, I don't have anything related to built-in view
Caspy7
hm
cyphix: what OS are you on?
cyphix
linux (gentoo)
Caspy7
cyphix: try going to about:config and checking the value of pdfjs.disabled
cyphix
Caspy7: Ok, it was set as true
now with false, it finally works
thank you!

Caspy7
cyphix: do you know if you'd set it or perhaps your distro?
sure, glad to help
cyphix
Caspy7: No I think I messed with these options some times ago to run some tests. I forgot to put it back as normal.
Caspy7
(Action) nods
yumbox
Can I enable ffmpeg support on latest stable?
Caspy7
I'm not sure if any of that landed on release
yumbox
hmmm, so what does media.fragmented-mp4.ffmpeg.enabled do ?
Caspy7
I think it was actually ported forward into Beta (so didn't even ride the trains in time)
or maybe I'm wrong :)
yumbox: can't guarantee there will be someone to answer you, but you could ask in #media on moznet
yumbox
so I should wait until ff 43?
Caspy7
yumbox: gotta run, but Beta is quite stable
yumbox
okay thanks Caspy7
EeveeTrainer
is there a waterfox support channel ?
b0at
i don't see one on irc.netsplit.de. their site links to only a subreddit.
advcomp2019__
plus what stops you from using true firefox?
EeveeTrainer
the 64bit firefox build isnt very stable for me
advcomp2019__
i have not switched to 64 bit.. so i am not sure
rachelfish
hi guys
how come when I press ctrl + shift + t it doesn't open the last tab I closed?
it just opens some other random tab I had closed at some point
not the most recent tab I closed
_Trullo
why can't I double click on links in irc and a new firefox window should open up?
anotheryou
is it much work to write a FF extention?
I'd like to "replay" my brwoser history from any given day in realtime
Caspy7
anotheryou: if you have to ask, my guess would be yes, but you can start here https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Add-ons/Overlay_Extensions/XUL_School/Getting_Started_with_Firefox_Extensions
anotheryou
thx Caspy7
looks doable though with the sdk :)
Caspy7
anotheryou: if you make something, you you'll post it on the addons site :)

Noob question, how can I add a context menu to an extension API button (on the toolbar)?
electroreactive
Noticed the 'Firefox Video Casting Beta', does it work with the Chromecast?
Caspy7
electroreactive: ...where?
electroreactive
https://support.roku.com/hc/en-us/articles/208754958-How-do-I-use-Firefox-Video-Casting-BETA-
b0at
i think it works with anything it normally works with, because it uses the built-in android libraries or system calls.
Caspy7
electroreactive: I just sent a video to my chromecast, so yes
electroreactive: play the video directly in the browser, long tap till you get a menu, select "send to device"
electroreactive: works with this for instance http://www.w3schools.com/html/mov_bbb.mp4
electroreactive
Oh, I'm still deciding whether to buy a roku se ($25) or a chromecast ($20) on black friday... the roku se has RCA out and I have an RCA LCD Projector. but I really wanted to stream a web browser to the TV.
So now I have to choose between a 212" screen... or the primary function I wanted. :/
Caspy7
electroreactive: do you want to stream video or web pages?
electroreactive
Both, with RCA out for streaming video if possible, hence my dilemma.
Caspy7
electroreactive: chromecast doesn't have RCA out, correct?
electroreactive
Yes, but only the roku 3+ supports mirroring.
Caspy7
how much is it?
electroreactive
The Roku se doesn't... so it's a choice between buying the $50 streaming stick(with both, after you get an adapter... I think it can support rca), the $20 chromecast, or the $25 roku se. Ironically, the roku and the chromecast are still cheaper than the roku stick.
Also, the roku uses miracast, which is sub-optimal.

If the Roku 1 or Amazon fire TV supported the chromecast protocol, you could broadcast an entire menu to them.
b0at
fwiw i recommend rokus whenever i can. it's media-company independent and nifty.
but only the roku 3+ support screen mirroring, i think
and not the old mhl stick
electroreactive
Are there two sticks?
b0at
yes, the new one is much more capable
