interesting, the latest firefox builds seem to no longer be called "mozilla-something"
I just downloaded http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/42.0b4/source/firefox-42.0b4.source.tar.xz, extracted it and the name of the directory is "firefox-42.0b4"; in the past, I always had to rename that "mozilla-something" to the proper firefox version (I also keep a local copy of some of the firefox versions)

anyone know how to export a group distribution list from outlook and import it easily into thunderbird? that is the only thing keeping me from finally ditching outlook

Any words on when we could expect a fresh version of Firefox that has native support for Wayland and doesn't sh*t the CPU's pants when watching videons on YouTube?
kbrosnan

looks like redhat is supporting a bit of the work https://github.com/stransky/gecko-dev

Gaffel
kbrosnan, I've read about RedHat's involvement before but the first article I read is getting a bit old now. I've been looking for some word on the progress. Intel has been working on Chromium's Wayland port, that too is quite silent.
kbrosnan, do you think that one of the reason Firefox's CPU usage is high is due to the ties to X11?
kbrosnan
no
Gaffel
The CPU usage is high despite having OMTC and OpenGL turned on as well as hardware accelerated decoding of videos.

Hi everybody
I wanted to know does firefox support hardware video decoding/encoding under Debian Jessie ?

kbrosnan
actually its parent bug
Gaffel
kbrosnan, Firefox calls VA-API when I play h.264 videos on YouTube.
I use Intel graphics.
wathek
really ?
Gaffel
Aye
But the CPU is still insanely high
wathek
so it doesn't use hardware it use software !
kbrosnan
i would assume then given the bugs it is falling back to software via mesa or something like that
Gaffel
Firefox doesn't call VA-API for me anymore, strange. :/
wathek
Gaffel, how did you check that ?
Gaffel
I start Firefox from console.
Terminal I mean
wathek
Gaffel, are you passing any parameter ?
Gaffel
No
wathek
ok

Excuse me, does anyone know why my XULrunner conkeror browser, which is only running 2 tabs is spinning up >10 processes?
Cork
gabriel_laddel: you would have to ask the conkeror developers
killer
Hey , if do browsing for a while and close all the tabs , firefox uses 700+Mb of Ram while chrome or safari frees the memory as soon as the tab is closed. why firefox doesn't release the ram
ptrz
killer: either memory leaks (bad thing) or caching (good thing), I would assume
probably some of both
if you let it sit idle for a while, you may see the memory usage go down
also, if you run another program that uses a lot of mem and the system starts running out, you may see Firefox's go down
those would imply in-mem caching, probably
killer
Ok , you mean firefox is tryong to use as much free ram as possible, as opposed to chrome or safari
