Caplain
is there a way to scroll if you only have a 2 button mouse?
kosmofield
Hi
anish
does anyone have any experience debugging pgo compilation ? i got to to work fine on a core i5 machine, but on a core 2 machine, the compile process just waits and never finishes
Snares
Is the orange Firefox button at the top going to stay?
Because it seems kind of like a placeholder for something else.
auscompgeek
it isn't a placeholder
it's the App Button.
and yes, it will stay
Snares
auscompgeek: It seems to be wasting about 2cm of horizontal screen space :|
auscompgeek
it is?
Doesn't seem so to me.
Snares
auscompgeek: I am referring to Firefox 4, if that wasn't clear.
auscompgeek: There is the orange "Firefox" button, and all the way to the left, there is 2 cm of open space.
right*

auscompgeek
Yes, I know you are referring to Fx.next.
Snares
auscompgeek: It would seem reasonable to put this button on the right, or just remove it altogether.
auscompgeek
why on the right!? O_o
That is the most user-UNfriendly place to put such a button...
Snares
auscompgeek: idk, somehow, that 2 cm of space needs to get utilized.
auscompgeek
Would you rather lose 20px of VERTICAL space?
(roughly)
Snares
You lose 2 cm vertical, and the entire horizonal space of your monitor.
why not put that button to the left of the tabs
it doesn't need to be that big, so it could just be a small orange button just before the tabs start
auscompgeek
that's how it is right now on XP.
sort of.....
You can style the button if you want...
Snares
auscompgeek: http://www.coated.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/firefox-update-mockup-rm-eng.jpg
auscompgeek: Ah, a better one: http://www.neowin.net/images/uploaded/Firefox_conceptdesign1_287d022f-e854-4da6-b942-df39783a4b3f.jpg
auscompgeek
I'm already running trunk, why do I need to see screenshots....?
Snares
idk, just seems like you could save some valuable screen real estate
auscompgeek: You're not running Windows 7 (Aero)
Thought it might look different if you weren't.
auscompgeek
I'm on XP and Vista...
9_9
Snares
ah, ok
"<auscompgeek> that's how it is right now on XP."
auscompgeek
and with aero disabled
Snares
auscompgeek: Ahah, yes, this is how it should be.
auscompgeek: Without Aero, the space is being utilized.
auscompgeek
yeah, with the usual titlebar :/
Snares
well, true...
auscompgeek
check the mockups ;)
Snares
It just looks like it's being utilized, I guess :P
auscompgeek
drawing in the title bar still requires some work :P
Snares
yeah haha

auscompgeek
Snares
auscompgeek: Make the titlebar thinner?
auscompgeek
how?
Snares
auscompgeek: Well, you just change the pixel size in your WinSDK dep, I would imagine :P
auscompgeek: You can use custom Windows title bars, and make them any size you want.
auscompgeek
I'm not a Firefox dev...
mek42
nobody else is on #chatzilla, so i hope someone will be willing to point me to where i can read about adding a netowrk to chatzilla's list of known networks
auscompgeek
irc://moznet/chatzilla
RandomTime
mek42: I just /attach
meiskam
how can i clear my dns cache
mek42
RandomTime: yes, i'm asking on the other chatzilla channel about adding to known networks list so i can click link to attach to it
RandomTime
meiskam: using windows, ipconfig -flushdns
aah
meiskam
that didnt help
RandomTime
You mean, it didn't work?
meiskam
no, it cleared it fine
RandomTime
but didn't solve the problem
meiskam
exactly
RandomTime
having dns issues?
Irunongames
I am using 4.0 beta in windows 7
meiskam
firefox is still using something in my hosts file, that's no there
RandomTime
I don't think FF has a seperate DNS cache that it uses
Irunongames
How do I disable the fact each tab is it's own window
RandomTime
Irunongames: in the taskbar? I had that issue, it's a setting in about:config. I'll try and find it
Irunongames
ah ok
I knew it was somewhere there just don't know what to search
RandomTime
browser.taskbar.previews.enable
you'll need to restart FireFox for it to take effect
Irunongames
Thanks!
Nope no restart for me :P
(Action) feels special
RandomTime
I had to
:(
Apparently it's a default from IE8, bugged the hell out of me with 50 tabs
meiskam
RandomTime i fixed it, thanks
Irunongames
Um one more thing
http://www.petercoti.com/images/v8xnZ.jpg

RandomTime

Irunongames
Some assembly required?
RandomTime
does it reappear when you press alt?
Irunongames
no
RandomTime
hrm...
Very strange
Irunongames
I could do firefox > exit but seems like a lot of work when theirs a simple button on every other program -_-
RandomTime
yeah
Might want to query that at the main firefox support channel
irc://irc.mozilla.org/firefox
Irunongames

So, at first glance it appears Firefox 4 completely breaks AJAX by not calling the onreadystatechange function. Thats kinda neat.
auscompgeek
Er, Gmail and Google Reader still work for me.
snover|away
mootools and jQuery ajax are busted, at least.
http://jsfiddle.net/sGQ5s/
Does that work for you, auscompgeek? It should display RETURNED DATA in the lower-right panel.
snover
or possibly
my installation has been busted
:|
auscompgeek
Don't make me open Minefield again...
I already killed it after it froze...
snover
Apparently my installation has busted. I guess I was right when I thought I wasnt possibly the first person to notice this, except I found another bug in bugzilla that seemed to reference what I was seeing
I did however neglect to notice that that bug was several years old, sigh. Years are important!
Apparently having Firebug set to show XmlHttpRequests in the console is what breaks it. Sooooo unsurprising. Disregard me.
auscompgeek
Ah.
It can get really slow, if not break AJAX if that's on.
snover
http://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/detail?id=2927
On the upside, Firefox 4 is a whole lot snappier. Loving it.
auscompgeek
Yup, especially when shutting down.
Cork
snover: the lastest nightlies makes it even funnier
firebug can't even be installed there
snover
god, looking at my list of votes in bugzilla is like a trip down memory lane
Implement inline-block Windowless plug-in support for X (WMODE)
Cork
what i hate the most is how border works with form elements
it makes life a pain almost every day for me :/
well border and padding actaully
*actually
snover
Set box-sizing: content-box?
Cork
hmm
thats a new one
snover
or, in this case, -moz-box-sizing.
Cork
(Action) googles
snover: i could kiss you :)
thx!
only problem now is ie :/
auscompgeek
Argh, I thought this was moznet again >.<
errerdood
hey all - I'm trying to make a persona, just for my use, it uses a pic of a friend so I don't want it on the internet, but as soon as I leave the "custom persona editor" page, it resets to the previous persona - and clicking the "apply" button in the personas addon does nothing. what's going on?
snover
Cork: IE8 supports box-sizing, but you maybe should just set it to border-box instead which will make them all behave the same in the *opposite* direction
Cork
snover: sadly i have to support ie7 too
and in some cases ie6
snover
set it to border-box instead
then they will all consistently use the traditional box model
Cork
but then i'm back to my original problem :)
input { width: 100%; border: 5px; }
that becomes wider then its parent
(at the right edge)
auscompgeek
b/c of the border
Cork
ya
snover
Cork: You would want to use the traditional box model to have that not occur
Cork
hmm
snover
traditional box model is width = content + padding + border
Cork
i see that i REALLY have to lab with this
snover
w3c box model (content-box) is width = content
Cork
thx again ^^
errerdood: i you go to addons > themes > select the default theme, does that help?
errerdood
Cork: was already at the default theme
oh wait, I wonder if the stoopid ubuntu modification pack is breaking it
brb
...aand nothing
Cork
errerdood: try deleting extensions.cache in your profile
(while firefox is closed)
errerdood
the directory?
it's empty, went exploring in there already
brb again ->
phew! 512mb of ram is not enough to run both firefox and chromium at the same time ..
snover
he left&
I was going to tell him that he just needed to stack the bytes a little more efficiently
oh well
errerdood
ok NOW!
now that my ram is free again
Cork
it should be in your firefox profile ~/.mozilla/firefox/profiles/<hash>.default/extensions.cache
errerdood
yeah. and i'm supposed to delete it?
auscompgeek
yeah
Cork
yup, while firefox is closed
errerdood
didn't help. I just did it, should have used the past tense
the max filesize is 300kb right? and that doesn't even matter offline?
Cork
firesize of what?
errerdood
