Helius
how can you set the default size/zoom level for all pages when you surf....
hlouis
Did you check if there was a setting in about:config
meco
My 3.6.6 for Ubuntu crashes when I open a page on CNN.com. Is that normal?
hlouis
No.
Seriously, have you tried to run it from a terminal to see if it prints any error messages to stdout?
meco
Ill try that
hlouis
Also, you may want to run it with --debug or some sort of verbose option.
check the man page for exact syntax
meco
Segmentation fault
hlouis
Oh.
That's bad.
Does it work for visiting other pages?
Aison
hello, after a crash I get this message: The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem

meco
Does what work?
hlouis
Let me rephrase that.
Aison
in the help I should delete the places.sqlite, but I don't want to delete that, because then I lose all my bookmarks
hlouis
Does Firefox render pages other than CNN.com properly?
Alison : Export your bookmarks to a backup file, then delete places.sqlite
meco
Yes, most are unproblematic. I cannot give a good answer though since this problem only just appeared.
hlouis
Hmm.
I don't think I can help you here.
meco
Could a restart of the computer help?
hlouis
Well, you can try.
But a program segfaulting like that usually has more severe underlying cause
meco
Should I file a bug report somewhere?
hlouis
You should go to the firefox forum to ask for more help.
meco
url?
hlouis
Stand by...
http://support.mozilla.com/fr/kb/Support+Website+Forums
There you go.
meco
Appreciate you help. I'll try it out
hlouis

Helius
how can you set the default size/zoom level for all pages when you surf.... where would it be in about:confih
Cork[home]
the zoom level you set with ctrl++/- should stick
i'm not sure, but i think the zoom value is stored in places.sqlite
Helius
only for the page you're on
Cork[home]
it should be saved per domain
Helius
each time you go to a new page its all small again
i know
Cork[home]
you clear your history?

Helius
no
Cork[home]
or run in private mode?
Helius
there must be a global setting for default size
Cork[home]
is browser.zoom.siteSpecific set to false?
Helius
true
Cork[home]
ok, looks like your places.sqlite is corrupt
fixing it would mean loading your history though
Helius
if its set to false all pages load small
Cork[home]
ya
Helius
true then pages load with remembered size
Cork[home]
hmm.
that sounds wird
*wierd
Helius
never touched the config to now
till
Cork[home]
have you tried in safe mode?
firefox safe mode that is
Helius
so whats the setting to load a global default page zoom size
Cork[home]
there isn't one
Helius
dumb
Cork[home]
as i said, setting a zoom for a domain should affect all normal pages from that domain
images excluded though
they always reset to 100%
Helius
my photos zoom too
Cork[home]
i'm sure you can find an extension that does what you want though
Helius
thats what im asking in the room for
Cork[home]
addons.mozilla.org has a search engin, just look around
Helius
ok that works
Default FullZoom Level 4.3

is there any way to know the window resolution? like the inverse of javascript:resizeTo(800,600); ?
Azalyn
i have to say, i'm liking this OoPP functionality. the satisfaction of being able to kill plugin-container whenever i want never gets old. :D
and then just refresh the page, and boom. clean slate
the only thing is that it takes a long time for it to reload it. chrome is much faster at reloading crashed plugins.
not a big issue for now though, i'm hoping it'll be improved in firefox 4 though.
night
hi, is firefox's about:config stored in some external file?
brlancer
night: about:config writes _differences_ to prefs.js - anything default isn't written out
you can also put things into user.js which firefox will read but not overwrite
night
brlancer: so if i were to add something i can add it manually in prefs.js?
auscompgeek
or user.js, if you want it to be permanent
night
ah so user.js is for permanent changes
?
auscompgeek
but you can only modify those files while Firefox is closed
yeah
night
hm so change doesnt take place if ff is running?
brlancer
night: FX reads prefs.js and user.js during startup - it writes to prefs.js during shutdown
night
ah kk
brlancer
anything you modify in prefs.js while it's running won't be read and will be overwritten
night
btw i dont see no user.js or prefs.js in my .mozilla
:S
brlancer
user.js doesn't exist until you create it
prefs.js doesn't exist until you modify something
kbrosnan
you are not looking in the correct spot then, check the subfolders that contain your firefox profiles
night
ah kk
so
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.blabla", "/usr/bin/something"); would be correct syntax to add to user.js?
kbrosnan
no
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Register_protocol
night
well i need exact line to add it manually to the file
because i dont want it to be gnome/kde dependant and i'd like to automatise it
brlancer
that works for me
night
which one?
brlancer
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.blabla", "/usr/bin/something");
kbrosnan
the pref will need to follow the firefox 3.5+ rules
night
ah
kbrosnan: yeah it's in mind for 3.5+
hmm my prefs.js is in .mozilla/firefox/gevc762r.default/
brlancer
kbrosnan: I hadn't seen the file syntax change (or the settings be ignored) - what changed in 3.5?
night: yes - Firefox creates a profile directory prefixed by a random string to prevent fixed-path attacks
kbrosnan
they re-did how applictions and protocols are picked up by firefox
night
brlancer: how does that helP?
when you can just use wildcard
:S
i mean as long as .default is fixed
there's no point in having a random prefix
kbrosnan
default will be used for the first profile
night
hmm ok
brlancer
yeah, mine is named "deerpark-1.5rc3" :)
night
hmpf
and your user.js is also there
?
brlancer
yeah, that's what I named it :)
nisstyre65
night, you're gonna have to get the user to input their profile string
night
nisstyre65: yeup
but how much does end user know about where mozz stores profile settings
nisstyre65
or you could just cd to that dir and get it couldn't you?
cd ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default
night
well yeah i could
if the guy uses default profile
nisstyre65
most people do
brlancer
night: user.js and prefs.js are profile specific - if you want to make something a user doesn't need to know locations for, you coudl write a small extension/add-on which would edit the running profile
night
brlancer: well that i wouldn't know how to do :/
brlancer
I didn't think you would - but it's the trade-off if you want to make it easier for users :)
night
true
any protips on where to start?
brlancer
take a look around, see if there's a template for "add a bunch of stuff to prefs.js"
night
hmm ok
Harold_parker
hello, does anyone know of a way to whitelist cross domain requests for debugging purposes please?
thanks alot
azizLIGHTS
im using a slow proxy andi get connecgtion has timed out. how to stop it. can i incrase the timeout
auscompgeek
Try using another proxy ;)
azizLIGHTS

i've no clue about java
kbrosnan
hm?
night
well im reading some tutorials on how wto make extensions
and everyone includes sh*tload of java code
kbrosnan
javascript
java is completely differnet
night
ye javascript, shows how clueless i am
ElllisD

auscompgeek
Then point Firefox to it.
cobra-the-joker
auscompgeek , how can i do that ?
auscompgeek
I can't remember :S
cobra-the-joker
:S
auscompgeek
Cork: ping
kbrosnan
from firefox's plugin directory
ln -s /path/to/libnpjp2.so
cobra-the-joker
kbrosnan , i only have libnullplugin.so
kbrosnan
what version of Firefox?
cobra-the-joker
3.6.6 ..latest
its the .tar.gz linux version
auscompgeek
Cork: unping
kbrosnan
then you'll need to find libnpjp2.so
cobra-the-joker
in my jre directory ?
i found it
copy/paste to the plugins directory ?
auscompgeek
ln it
save space
cobra-the-joker
:D

i'm having problems printing tables and an asp:treeview
my borders are antialiased in the table, but not on the treeview
each line should be aligned with the corresponding line from the table/treeview
with the aliasing lines are shifted and at the end it's off by 3 lines
