ok
thanks
hamcore
Does firefox sqlite support FTS?
sdwilsh
yes
hamcore
is there any documentation?
sdwilsh
what kind of documentation would you want/need?
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/storage is the SQLite wrapper
and then you just use FTS3 with SQL queries
hamcore
ok, thanks.
sdwilsh a patch is needed?
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10968
oh, disregard it.
sdwilsh
some linux distributions change the way they ship Firefox, but there's been a configure check for it for a while now
hamcore
yes, my fault, sorry, thanks.
xaxxon
how do I get adblock working in 4b1?
I know there's some sort of "don't check compatibility" mode?
looks like the setting has moved/been removed since 3
oh wait, I Have to add it most likely
got it
adblock for ff3 seems to work fine in 4
do the "app tabs" exist yet?

SalamatiQus
hello
xaxxon_
uhh how do you close a window in ff4 b1?
like.. a single window
when you have the condensed "mega button" in the top left
htf do you close a window?
kbrosnan
use alt file > close window
xaxxon_
I don't have a file menu
kbrosnan
for now
xaxxon_
oh
i see
kbrosnan
holding alt will bring it up
xaxxon_
yeah, I saw that
kbrosnan
though once the menu is more sorted out that won't happen
xaxxon_
*not a fan* - seems like there's room for the normal widgets in the top right.. they're just not there
in win7
kbrosnan
it is a very raw set of menu items
xaxxon_
probably some limitation of the hack they did to not have the title bar
kbrosnan
you can disable the menu button if you wish
xaxxon_
no, I like it
I just want the usual window widgets in the top right.. where there is just empty space
no reason to not put them there
kbrosnan
hm?
xaxxon_
the top right of the window.. just empty space. put the min/max/close widgets there, right?
I guess alt-f4 works, too
kbrosnan
should be present
xaxxon_
nope
just empty space
kbrosnan
http://i.imgur.com/Mk4z0.png ?
xaxxon_
I have the "close tab x" there -- yeah, that's not what mine looks like
..pasting
http://imgur.com/ouIci
is it my .. pretty thingy?

kbrosnan
could be
xaxxon_
how to turn that off?
kbrosnan
tools > addons > themes
xaxxon_
yep, that was it
there they are
interesting
heh. under themes: "default 4.0b1 by mozilla.... [!] Incompatible with Firefox 4.0b1"
kbrosnan
the persona themes breaking the close buttons is a known issue
xaxxon_
oh good
it's known to me, too
now

Hi, I'm using FF 1.5.0.1 at work (cannot update it), and it keeps asking for certificates (virtually every website I visit)
Cork
1.5...
Spow
I checked whether or not the time was correctly set, it seems so
Cork
thats so old its not even funny...
Spow
I'm not the sysadmin deciding what the standard install is
kbrosnan
try deleting the certs.db in your user profile
Spow
there's no such file
Ah maybe there is actually, cert8 without extension (it had a DLL icon so I missed it)
I hatta reboot FF, if it worked I won't come back

FishFace
Any Thunderbird gurus around?
kbrosnan
possibly on #thunderbird or http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging
where #thunderbird is on irc.mozilla.org
FishFace
All righty. Thanks.
Hmmm...only 6 people on the whole mozilla.org irc
kbrosnan
doubtful
FishFace
Unless they had some kind of split
kbrosnan
considering i am on more that a few channels with 100+
though it is getting towards the slow time for the server
FishFace
Current local users: 6 Max: 173
Maybe its ToastLink that I am on
Cork
FishFace: thats on the server, not the network
FishFace
That is where they landed me :\
Cork
"Current Local Users: 1150 Max: 2115"
"Current Global Users: 1165 Max: 2194"
so quite alot more then 6
FishFace
Hmph. All good now. Just reconnected. Thanks.

anyone still alive
amee2k
morning everyone :)
how do i add a search engine to firefox, for the little search bar thingy?
i went to the addons page and searched, but when i click download i only get a page
"This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it"
followed by an <OpenSearchDescription> XML document
what am i doing wrong?
FishFace
You mean the search bar to the right of the address bar?
amee2k
yeah
FishFace
Hmm
I always wonderd how to get rid of mine.
Looking around though
amee2k
right click the toolbar -> customize
then grab it with the mouse and drag it out into the customize window and drop
i like to move it up into the free space of the menu bar though
FishFace
Awesome!
amee2k
gives more address bar space and more search bar space at the same tiem
FishFace
Right. So you want yours back you say?
amee2k
i have the bar
i want to add more search engine entries to it
FishFace
Oooooo!
Hmm
amee2k
they're for download on the addons page
FishFace
Yeah. That I don't know about :\
amee2k
but i just get the XML file... they don't get added like addons when i open them
FishFace
Mostly because I never used it at all.
amee2k
i didn't either until recently
benomatic
hi! i am trying to debug a java applet in firefox/mac os, and unlike Safari in Mac, or Firefox on linux, the jvm switches (configured via java control panel) are not honored. any clue how to make this work? (in particular, i want the jdb socket options to work so i can use debugger.)
hrm. i spose it is 4:20am EDT. will re-ask later too :)
jmut
whats with firefox not keeping cyrillic url? for which version is this planned to be fixed?
cyrillic domain I mean
Spow
Hi, I updated to 3.6.6 but it keeps asking me for certificates, and it's even longer to accept than in prev version I had (1.5) !
iomari
i just installed 3.6.4 in linux. Whenever i run firefox I get "firefox not found". I have to deletet compatibility.ini from my home folder each time i run it to get it to work. what is wrong?
amee2k
iomari: make a script that does rm ~/.../compatibility.ini && firefox; and put it in your path
iomari
amee2k, i've done somehing similar but I was wondering why it's necessary.
amee2k
because firefox is the windows among web browsers :P
iomari
amee2k, :-). i c.
amee2k
mine refuses to add search engines lately
iomari
amee2k, too bad i'm addicted to scrapbook
amee2k
i went to the addons page and searched, but when i click download i only get a page
"This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it"
followed by an <OpenSearchDescription> XML document
iomari
amee2k, i wish there was another browser that worked with it's extensions.
amee2k
haha yeah
iomari
amee2k, and it's slow as hell also
amee2k
and sucks up a lot of memory
mine regularly peaks at 1..1.5GB
and this is a serious point against it, on a 2GB machine
iomari
it's good to know im not the only one complaining :-)
amee2k
lol
iomari
i hoe they are monitoring this channel
s/hoe/hope
amee2k
lol
would be the first dev team that is interrested in community ranting >_>
iomari
now i have to download 3.6.6 in the hope that some bugs are fixed. then to prepare for the new baugs intridued
amee2k
haha indeed
iomari
cant live with it , cant live without it
amee2k
i'm stuck on 3.0.6 courtesy of debian stable
iomari
i just download the tarball and dump it in a folder
Cork
amee2k: so just install 3.6.6 localy
amee2k
which mildl suck because this is too old to install adblock, which is like one of the only two extensions i really use
Cork: nah, the old one uses less memory
iomari
i know but im a glutton for punishment
amee2k
i'm at 300MB or so, which is quite fine for what i have open
Cork
(Action) checks his memory use
amee2k
i used to have 3.6 on ubuntu and it was a massive pain in the ass
Cork
560 for loads of tabs
not to bad
amee2k
yeah
Cork
<-- has 8gb of ram so...
amee2k
good for you. i don't.
so why don't you buy me a nice pair of 2GB DDR2 sticks?
Cork
thats not that expensive
amee2k
sorry that i'm not a gamer twat with overclocked quadcore and what not
Cork
i'm not eather
but i do develop and compile :)
amee2k
i don't think the fact that your dev box has a sh*tload of ram is an excuse not to fix that memory issue
not meaning you personally
Cork
amee2k: fixing memory depends on how you looks at it
amee2k
but 1.5GB of ram for maybe 50 tabs is unreal... there just has to be something wrong
Cork
if firefox would remove more stuff out of memory and save it on disk, it would be significantly slower
i've never gotten over 900mb of ram nomatter what i do
amee2k
i think the javscript engine it uses limits it to something in relation to how much ram your system has
like no more than 80% or so
i have the cheapest 500GB sata disks in my work box that i could find
and score like 80..100 MB/s on bonnie++
WastePotato
hi you
amee2k
my internet line is 7Mbps ADSL... thats around 900 kB/s
courtesy of our wlan i have a google ping of ~30ms
my HDDs have a seek time of like 5
i don't think complainging that the disks are so slow is appropriate for most people
but you could always make the memory caching behaviour configurable
like... an option "enable core memory caching" or something in the advanced settings
if you like, enable it by default. but at least give me the choice
Cork
amee2k: it is, to some degree
amee2k
how so?
Cork
browser.cache.memory.enable
places.database.cache_to_memory_percentage
amee2k
hmmm lemme try
whats the places.database thing for?
nevermind
Cork
places is the database where your history, bookmarks, and the like is stored
amee2k
i don't have that option anyway
Cork
there is more then those too, if i remember correctly
amee2k
i disabled the memory cache thing... lets see how it goes this time
Cork
browser.cache.memory.capacity
amee2k
is there a flashplayer.do_not_crash option or something too?
Cork
firefox has no control over flash
