hello
xbskid
Is there an auto-update feature or add-on to update the Firefox nightly builds, or will I have to download and install new nightlies each time?
a7x
Hello, i've troubles after
the last firefox update
wopwopr
Does anyone know where I could get help with XUL?
kbrosnan
#xul on irc.mozilla.org
wopwopr
Anywhere else? It's empty at the moment
kbrosnan
irc.mozilla.org is a different server than freenode. https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/dev-tech-xul
sometimes #exddev as well on i.m.o
wopwopr
thanks
iamben
so, why did they skip version 3.6.5?

kbrosnan
because it belongs to fennec
richthegeek
hi all: I'm getting a seg fault with Firefox occasionally
using 3.6.3 on Ubuntu 10.10, 64-bit
how to trace/test and where to report it?
dragon-eye
my firefox sitting automatic changed
iamben
is there a way to disable the default browser change popup? my idiot users sometimes click yes and i *need* IE to be default
dragon-eye
my firefox sitting automatic changed. Back button ,url, history, everything not working,
How can i solve it please?
iamben
dragon-eye: can you try a fresh profile?
dragon-eye
iamben, How?
iamben
dragon-eye: start it with the -P parameter, like start->run-> firefox -P if you're on windows
dragon-eye
i am in ubuntu
iamben
just run firefox -P from a terminal then
dragon-eye
iamben, i am giving a screeshot
iamben
sometimes my UI gets goofy after upgrades, something wierd with the chrome/XUL stuff i'd guess. i always just fix by making a clean profile.
dragon-eye
iamben, there is no clean profile button
kbrosnan
you need to close firefox before running firefox -P
iamben
dragon-eye: yeah, close firefox then run firefox -P and it should start the profile manger, where you can create a new one
dragon-eye
iamben, how can i add some url button in firefox?
iamben
dragon-eye: you can use the bookmarks toolbar
dragon-eye
iamben, No, In firefox some url address button like :Most Visited,Getting Started,Latest HeadLines. I want to add some url like these
iamben
isn't that the bookmarks bar?
you can right click to add entries, or just navigate to teh page you want, and click & drag the little icon next to the URL
dragon-eye
iamben, ok got it thanks

i've heard that in ff i can run a style each time a site is visited?
what tool/addon should i use with ff to do this?
Cork
stylish
it doesn't "run" it though
it applays it
sugoi
hehe, same crap different pile - if it's a word game, no style is ever 'run'
Cork
exactly style is passive code
sugoi
but really its a script in a sense, so it is run just as much as any other scripting language
Cork
no
style is parsed, never executed
js can run, as its actually executed
sugoi
actually its interpreted and managed
which in a way...is parsing
but again, thanks
Cork
its interpred, but the code is still executed by the interpeter
style is just a set of instructions for the style parser
style is as much a script as html is
sugoi
and the a script language is just a 'set of instructions for the script engine'
Cork
...
sugoi... js in the end becomes binary code, style never becomes more then just data stored in the the style tree
sugoi
a managed runtime is just a glorifed input, that's all i'm saying
we both agree how they run, i'm just argueing the wording
which is fun...because its irc and people love to argue about everything
[i fit better in #c++, sorry]

I am using Thunderbird here and when trying to create an email and enter the email address I cannot change a previously used address ...
for instance one address is ******@yahoo.com.au and I need to change that to *******@yahoo.com
but every time I leave the email field it automatically ads the .au to the address ...
very annoying
any ideas on how to solve this?
Cork
zetheroo: irc://irc.mozilla.com/thunderbird
woops
.org not .com
zetheroo: irc://irc.mozilla.org/thunderbird
zetheroo
do I open that in a browser?
Cork
zetheroo: its an irc link, it depends what client you use
its basically #thunderbird @ irc.mozilla.org
zetheroo
Pidgin
?
Cork
its there support channel
zetheroo
oh ... so not freenode
Cork
exactly
zetheroo
Cork: thanks

Alright I'm trying to download something from my college platform, but it gives me a 1x1 pix page. Is this normal? All the other documents are downloadable and have the same URL structure, except that this one has a space too much. I don't get it..

mokrzu
hi, it's possible to have in (Untitled) tab, Personas theme instead of white space ?
kbrosnan
i don't understand what you are asking.
mokrzu
when i use personas theme i have blank (white) new tab window, is it normal ?
kbrosnan
yes
mokrzu
ok, thanks
RichardLynch
Every once in awhile, something makes my "enter" key not work in FF. I suspect it's some sort of brain-dead JS... Even closing off tabs doesn't fix it. Is there any way to "reset" whatever is doing this? Or am I the only victim?
AlexZIon
hi neveryone, I have some problem to run Firefox since dew days ..., the version I'm using is 3.6.3
kbrosnan
since dew days?
AlexZIon
sorry , since few days ...
I'm in Kubuntu, and when I try to open firefox , just doesn't show up the window ...., but I can see it on the process manager ....
kbrosnan
try starting firefox's safe mode
firefox -safe-mode
AlexZIon
nice...., I opened it in safe mode, and deleting the history now it works just fine ....
thanks a lot kbrosnan, I'll take a not of this option ... ;)
kish
hey guys
why does your browser leave so much information in logs and sh*t
look at this
this is what my browser sends to every site
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.9) Gecko/20100330 Fedora/3.5.9-1.fc11 Firefox/3.5.9
that's almost like a fu*king fingerprint!
Cork[home]
kish: every browser of the planet leaves that information
if you don't fake your user agent
kbrosnan
yep, been noted. there has been talk about making it less interesting
Cork[home]
kbrosnan: link?
kbrosnan
newsgroups
Cork[home]
ah
kbrosnan
and a few bugs have been filed about the eff site
Cork[home]
well the Fedora/3.5.9-1.fc11 isn't mozillas fault
kbrosnan
correct
My ideal would be something like Gecko/1.9.3 but with todays poorly implemented js browser detection that would likely break a supprisingly large number of sites

Anyone hear of a FireFox Add-on for blocking insecure content on secure pages, like IE offers/defaults to?
Or at least one which would make it easy to identify what elements are being transmitted over http vs https?
kbrosnan
firebug
zaaj
Yeah, I've got firbug, but it's often not straightforward to trace down css or js include files even with firebug...
kbrosnan
the net section should make it fairly simpel
zaaj
On Cisco's login page, I had to clear my cache and ... yeah net section - I'd already gone to WireShark by the time I figured oud I'd have to clear my cache each time I tried to find the http among all the https connections/
However, it also doesn't help the fact that to do so, I've already downloaded possibly malicious content.
The biggest concern I had regarding the mixed-content pages are on login pages when using FireFox's password manager - the saved username/password gets filled in on the form behind the warning about mixed content.
If a form-scraping malicious javascrpt had been loaded via a hijacked http session, it could steal the username/password before a user gets the chance to decide to login or not.

does anybody speek russian here?

is there a way to block firefox from becoming the default browser, or at least disable the "firefox is not your default browser..." dialog? i love FF and like having it available, but on this set of systems I admin, it cannot be default
Cork[home]
iamben: tools > options > advanced > general > "Always check to see if Freifox is the default browser..."
iamben
Cork[home]: that's per profile though isn't it? i need something system wide, and hopefully something i can automate
Cork[home]
iamben: you could prob do something with the default folder in the firefox program folder
hatta
so for some reason there's never anything in my downloads window

is there a way to install an addon for thunderbird so that all user profiles can access it? ie, only installing it once for all users

Question to any web devs in here. Has anyone been noticing Firefox 3.6.x seems to 'Cache' Javascript files annoyingly much, even if the referencing page has all the usual no-cache settings on it?
It's to the point I usually have to load the JS file in a separate window and reload it occasionally to actually pick up changes in the JS, else refreshing the main page just uses a cached version of it, happening to my client as well

hi! i am new here. I want to participate in thi. can anyone help me out?
iamben
Cork[home]: i'll look into that, sounds like a possible fix. thanks.

Anyone heard of problems that nsinstall (used during build process) segfaults? I'm on a machine running Debian Lenny with some packages from Squeeze (testing for next release). The segfault seems to occur in strlen, maybe it is related to EGLIBC?
gaurav__
i want to do somethig. can anyone heip me?
i want to do something. can anyone help me out?
i am new here.
RichardLynch
synapt: Rather than rely on the browser, I generally tack on ?v=<?php echo filemtime('/full/path/to/file.js')?> to the URL for the JS. When the file changes, so does the URL.
synapt
Richard: An alternative I guess yeah, I've used something like that before on production sites, but this was a bit weird as I would have expected Firefox to treat the loaded JS the same as the cache settings being given in the headers; eg no-cache
e01
what is status of qt port of firefox?
RichardLynch
synapt: I've been burned too many times over the years by browsers/proxies/ISPs ignoring caching headers of various kinds. If I don't want it cached, I use a different URL and call it done. There is *always* somebody somewhere that thinks they know better than me what to cache...
synapt
Richard: Like firefox apparently, lol
