is there a way to make firefox word-wrap things instead of showing me only a tiny part of the page with a big horizontal scrollbar?
xjkx
what is the addon that you can modify the response of your browser, like pretend you use opera and such
found out
FishFace
Looking for an about:config or something. When the mouse is over a link, I cannot scroll. Have to move the pointer off the link to do so.
Yeah, I know. No big deal. But a page with tons of links its annoying to find a blank spot on the page.
sburjan
hello. I have firefox 3.6 running on ubuntu. how can I set to open new tabs next to current one ? I tried the aoubt:config with browser.tabs.insert .... but doesn't work
FishFace
sburjan, Tools - Options - Tabs. Been there?
sburjan
FishFace, : yes, and I have only 5 check boxes
first 4 checked, last unchecked
nothing that resembles to what I need
FishFace
sburjan, how about holding the CTRL key when you click a link? That will open a new tab.
sburjan
yeas, that works.. but if I want a blank tab.. like ctrl+T

hello. I am testing websockets with the latest build (protocol 76) . I am able to do the handshake correctly between my server and the client, and my server is able to send data to the client. However, after a few messages the connection closes unexpectedly (broken pipe). I did not have this problem with chromium and websocket 75. Any idea ?
ZummiG777
When opening new tabs off of a page is there a way in Firefox to make the tabs open at the end of the tab row instead of inserting them to the right of the current tab?
Cork
ZummiG777: about:config set browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent to false
ZummiG777
Thank you Cork!

i am inserting the code inside a <div> but the gadget takes over the entire page
Gryllida
hi sodapop_
please try ##javascript
sodapop_
Gryllida: i did, but it only happens on firefox
have no clue
loopidity
on linux where the datas like useragent stored on FF

Cork
loopidity: useragent you have modified your self or useragent that is set by default?
loopidity
if I want to manually modify useragent and other infos FF sends, where are the data located
kbrosnan
you don't edit it directly you over ride it with a pref
loopidity
wow, about:config says You might void your warranty
how do override them? and can I hide atleast my home dir, what bash i use...such datas
Cork
loopidity: its a joke. ff is served without any warranty
kbrosnan
however an extension, user agent switcher makes it much simpler
Cork
its a note to be carfull, thats it
kbrosnan
huh? that sort of info is never transmitted
loopidity
really?
i was looking at my meta data on local server, and it displayed such data
i will run the page again and tell
tdp
hi
loopidity
now i m seeing a little different :-|
only COLORTERMgnome-terminal
tdp
in some sites flashplayer hangs firefox and others gecko browsers, while this doesn't happen with webkit browsers...
why?
Gryllida
are you on 3.6.4?
Firefox 3.6.4 released http://getfirefox.com/ , it has out of process plugins which fix this issue, tdp
tdp
i'm on iceweasel 3.5.9-3
ok, i'll try 3.6.4, thank you
andrewsh
Good afternoon, everybody.
Does anyone experience problems with throbber in FF 3.6.*?
I see no animation.
With any theme.
At all.
Am I doing something wrong?
cryton
have you tried firefox's safemode?
pls don't PM me, keep chat here so others can jump in if they can help!
pcgenius
andrewsh:ok so it also not working fine in safe mode
andrewsh
cryton: Yes, it doesn't work in -safe-mode as well.
cryton
hmmm curious
andrewsh
16:24:41 <andrewsh> A month ago I've tested another 3.6.* version, and it was the same.
16:26:27 <andrewsh> If I downgrade back to 3.5.9, it works.
cryton
what if you make a new firefox profile for a test?
pcgenius
yes you can try this
cryton
close firefox totally, then launch with firefox -profilemanager
andrewsh
Still the same.
By the way, it's Iceweasel 3.6.4~build2-1
cryton
hmm, then I have no idea, sorry
kbrosnan
try the binary mozilla ships?
andrewsh
kbrosnan: now it works.
I need it to get working in Debian, though :)
kbrosnan
communicate the issue to debian
andrewsh
Strange, I see nothing criminal in Debian's patches...
kbrosnan
andrewsh: you might need to look at their xulrunner patches as well
andrewsh
Oh no
There's toooo many patches.
Why doesn't Mozilla check/incorporate at least some of them?
kbrosnan
debian and mozilla don't have the best relationship. it has cooled to you'll play in your sandbox and we'll play in ours
andrewsh
It's rather strange that two great important free software projects cannot have good relationship.
I'd rather say, "!important".
Because both Mozilla and Debian are both very important for FSF movement, I think.
Sorry,
not FSF, F/OSS
misprint :)
kbrosnan
trademark law sucks :(
andrewsh
Mozilla could make an exception for Debian.
kbrosnan
debian can't make an exception
andrewsh
As I remember, speaking of trademarks, Mozilla was restricting Debian, not otherwise?
kbrosnan
rule 7 was their issue http://www.debian.org/social_contract#guidelines
what they are asking is impossible without abandoning the trademark
which is hugely helpful with dealing with people who try and sell Firefox for large sums of currency
andrewsh
Though they still try to sell it :)
awesong
Hello
kbrosnan
hi
awesong
Is is possible to disable this allert? http://imgur.com/wYdLb.jpg
alert*
kbrosnan
disable javascript, or use an extension noscript or yesscript for example
awesong
Can it be done without noscript?
kbrosnan
disable javascript globaly in the prefs
awesong
Sorry, i meant without disabling the scripts
can i just block that popup?
or set it to cancel as default
kbrosnan
no
awesong
Ooh
so what do you suggest? yesscript? or noscript?
i've checked both but they do the same thing!
kbrosnan
yescript toggles js on or off for a single site
noscript can block or whitelist single scripts and is a bit more fiddly but you get finer control
awesong
cool, i think i'll go with yesscript
thanks kbrosnan
oly
hi, any chance you can refresh the current tab in firefox from the command line ?
randasja
hi guys
kbrosnan
hello
randasja
I have a question about cross domain xmlhttprequests: What do I have to do to access http://dbpedia.org/sparql from localhost?
the request is a always empty using XmlHttpRequest, but there is data if I request it in a tab
joeym
I just updated to firefox 3.6.4 on Freebsd 8.0. The locations where plugins are searched for often seems to change with different freebsd ports of firefox. Is there a way to tell what directories firefox is searching for plugins?
kbrosnan
randasja: https://developer.mozilla.org/En/HTTP_access_control
joeym: ~/.mozilla/plugins and /path/to/firefox/plugins by default
some packagers may include /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and maybe /usr/lib/xulrunner/plugins
assuming bsd has a similar package layout to linux distros
nrich
mlocate
locate
slocate
whatever your distro has
randasja
kbronsnan: cheers
kbronsnan: so if dbpedia.org does not support responding 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin', I cannot use it from localhost, right?
crouton
hey guys.. my cache size is set to 200 000 kb. and it keeps showing 219074 kb for storage in use even after i clear everything. any reason why this is happening?
timotei
Hello everybody
kbrosnan
hi
timotei
I have a question.
I'm using firefox on windows 7 and linux(gentoo)
in windows, the icons(in the bookmark tab) have the perfect distance between them. in linux, there is much more space, and they look ugly
in windows, the tabs, have some kind of border, but in linux not, it looks like the common border between two tabs is overlapped
anyone has any ideea of this behavior?
leleobhz
have no another channel to support thunderbird? i cant connect to irc.mozilla.org (no route)
kbrosnan
leleobhz: try mibbit.com they have webchat for irc.mozilla.org (moznet). else http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging
Pendrag0n
I have a quick question, in my firefox, I have the address bar bar, most visited toolbar (with links and folders of links right to left next to that) below that I have the stumble upon toolbar, and below that I have the web developer toolbar. I would like to have a double stack of links, or, in other words, 2 bookmarks toolbars, one above the other, as I've ran out of room for my quick, easy to get to, freaquently used shortcuts
does anyone have any clue how to do this?
timotei
so, about my problem: http://i49.tinypic.com/2v1n800.png
why is this difference? first is windows, second is linux
T1750
i saw an addon the other day that deletes all session cookies
Pendrag0n
timotei: I just got here, so I don't know for sure your problem, but I can see obviously to me, what the difference is
T1750
does anyone know where it is?
Pendrag0n
the css controlling the toolbar has a different margin / padding
T1750 there are a few of them
timotei
but why this difference?
Pendrag0n
one is the private browsing feature
timotei
I'm using the same profile folder, shared across
Pendrag0n
T1750 I think CTRL+SHIFT+P turns it on
timotei: I think the CSS is part of the XUL component, and might be in a different folder
I am not 100% on that
but I've made xul components before
and I know that is why the images you've shown are different
timotei
so, where to modify those things?
Pendrag0n
it could be that the different versions of firefox, just treat the margin/padding differently,
timotei
about:config?
Pendrag0n
well like I said, I just got here
timotei
oh
Pendrag0n
so can you try to explain your problem again to me
and can anyone answer my question while I try to help him?
timotei
well, the problem is, I want in windows to look like in windows, or close to it
especially the space between icons drives me crazy
the icons in the toolbar
Pendrag0n
do you have firefox themes/profiles enabled?
timotei
yes, personas
T1750
Pendrag0n: I don't want a private session as such
I like my history and form filling being kept I just don't like my coookies being retained between sessions
timotei
T1750:
T1750: there is an option to clear cookies when closing firefox
T1750
yes it's on and selected
timotei
and it doesn't work?
T1750
of course but sometimes i need to clear cookies while browising
usually due to a broken website
timotei
oh
Pendrag0n
T1750, I can tell you how
one person at a time, but T1750's question will be faster to answer
T1750
a simple "nuke all sessuib cookies" button would work cuz i have firefox treat all my cookies at session cookie
timotei
T1750: here you go: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4703/
Pendrag0n
t1750, there are 3 ways to do what you want
timotei just showed you one
if you need to browse, like porn, and don't want cookies kept, then just use private browseing, it is under tools > start private browsing
or ctrl+shift+p
and when you end then all cookies are gone
for that session
