Aethaeryn
unknown error when syncing with Weave
anyone know what the unknown error might be? :P
It never worked initially
rjohnson19
Aethaeryn: make sure you've updated the add-on, its called Firefox Sync now.
Aethaeryn
1.3.1
is what it says
rjohnson19
Hm. There are some logs in your profile dir under weave/logs, that might help you figure out whats wrong
Aethaeryn
rjohnson19: could the fact that I use a master password interfere?
I hear that it only encrypts saved passwords if you use a master password
locally, I mean
rjohnson19
No, and also everything sync sends is pre-encrypted with the pass phrase, all the servers get is a blob of encrypted data
Aethaeryn
Does it work under Linux?
rjohnson19
Everything is platform agnostic now. iirc.
Ryulong
Firefox has suddenly stopped remembering that if I want to download a .rar file that I want it to be downloaded rather than opened with winrar immediately
but only when downloaded from Megaupload...

for some odd reason firefox had an error about "corrupt file" and now when i close and reopen it, it's always asking for me to enter my information (which it should be saving...) for my digg account and cpalead
anyone know how to fix this?
i would give the entire error message, but im unable to reproduce it :(
i uninstalled ff and installed latest version as an obvious solution to no avail
wireshark
hello
i cant install media plugin
and some radio stations i can't hear them
could anyone help me?
my distro is ubuntu 10.04 64 bit
LinuxDolt
is there any way to get firefox to have a "default" background and text color for pages that don't define them that's seperate from the system theme?
i'm using a dark system theme and firefox's own start page fails!
as well as about a million other sites
RoChess
is there anyway to disable mixed mode for SSL sites?
Cork[home]
"disable" you mean to block insecure content instead of loading it?
RoChess
exactly
Cork[home]
there is a bug about it, but no its not pressently
RoChess
all i can find on a google-hunt is that the ForceHTTPS plugin no longer works
LinuxDolt
hm... progress... * { color: black; background: white; } rule in userContent.css in my user's profile helped out a bit.
input fields are still dark background though, and now have black text
RoChess
Google Wave is first site i encounter that in effect is now running insecure due to using both https+http content... and i don't wanna have to use Google Chrome for it
LinuxDolt
same with buttons
RoChess: LOL. google chrome just doesn't bother warning you
Cork[home]
LinuxDolt: as far as i know, chrome loads http in https too
ya
opps
RoChess ^
LinuxDolt
you can disable the warning in firefox, i don't remember how exactly, but yeah...
Cork[home]
you have an option in the dialog firefox shows
RoChess
LinuxDolt, hmm, i thought in Chrome i could disable it... would have to reinstall it to confirm
Cork[home]
RoChess: chrome doens't block http in https
RoChess
yeah i can supress the error, but thats just ignoring the issue :)
Cork[home]
exactly
LinuxDolt
RoChess: essentially it's harmless in most cases. the site is still secure, SOME content just isn't

Cork[home]
LinuxDolt: thats not true at all!
LinuxDolt
...
RoChess
LinuxDolt, actually the entire site is insecure
Cork[home]
if you get in one file as http, your entire page might be insecure
RoChess
that's why i don't like it
Cork[home]
that can load third party js
and what not
RoChess
LinuxDolt, it is very easy for the http side (ad maybe) to redirect the secure content now
LinuxDolt
ah, true
Cork[home]
or simply dns injection
RoChess
yup
LinuxDolt
RoChess: i assure you though that chrome is just "ignoring the problem" as well
Cork[home]
RoChess: a quick look, but i think https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=298995
is the bug i talked about
RoChess
LinuxDolt, ok... then i guess i am forced to install the Google Wave plugin into IE
Cork[home]
RoChess: ugg sorry wrong bug... >_<
RoChess
LinuxDolt
... IE is going to ignore it too, or warn about it. the only thing that can be done is to just not use sites that use a mixed mode
RoChess
that is what i found before i joined this channel
LinuxDolt, no IE has setting for it
which is what i always use
Cork[home]
RoChess
any http content is blocked hard
it's scary to see that IE has a usability feature on security that trumps FF... i just pinched myself that i'm not in a nightmare :)
Cork[home]
^^
ya i know
LinuxDolt
interesting...
Cork[home]
i thought the same thing when i looked at it way back
LinuxDolt
firefox needs to fix this then, since everyone else already seems to have done so
Cork[home]
LinuxDolt: no, not everyone else
as far as i know its opera and ie that has
LinuxDolt
?
RoChess
LinuxDolt
chrome has too according to RoChess, and since he proved me wrong on ie, i'm finding myself less likely to doubt him now
RoChess
LinuxDolt, they keep updating/changing, and maybe it was Opera i was thinking off
Cork[home]
RoChess: i know its messy, but you could run a separat firefox and block it for any other access then port 443
RoChess
Chrome kept wanting to update too often, so i ended up killing it, unless i need it
darn it, that ForceHTTPS plugin fails to install
LinuxDolt
heh.... i keep a copy of every browser around, primarily use firefox for compatibility
RoChess
that seems to be a solution
it fails on validation, which is a morbid sense of irony
LinuxDolt
(Action) does a little bit of web dev though, so his situation is hardly the 'norm' that he'd expect other people to follow
RoChess
LinuxDolt, same for me, it just has to work for everybody, though i did stop caring for Netscape3 users :)
LinuxDolt
haha
RoChess
but i even have a copy of Lynx to make sure the fancy stuff doesn't prevent them from a good experience... which i found out ensures mobile devices that don't have a fancy browser to work as well
LinuxDolt
yeah. i stop caring about anyone using a browser more than one generation old. if you're still using ie6 or older, or ff1.x or older, or ... etc.
RoChess
yup
LinuxDolt
i don't care about them ;)
RoChess
i don't code for resolution or browser, but XHTML/CSS instead
LinuxDolt
yeah... i code to that, then bugfix to browsers
RoChess
lol, yup
a lot of those workarounds come natural to me now, so lot of times it already works on the big-three (IE/FF/Opera), which i found out then also works on Safari/Chrome/Konquest/etc
bla
(Action) found yesterday a flash page which allocates a lot (22GB over night) virtual memory. Fun.
LinuxDolt
yeah, webkit is really really easy to code for, doesn't -seem- to have as many bugs as the others
RoChess
LinuxDolt, in a way i am glad they all still do have bugs, or it might be soo easy that nobody needs my work anymore :)
LinuxDolt
hahaha
RoChess
has anybody tried to get that ForcedHTTPS plugin to work manually?
Cork[home]
RoChess: you could try downloading that extensions and install it localy
LinuxDolt
RoChess: right now i'm trying to figure out a way to get stupidfox to handle a dark desktop theme better: ie, use white and black as the defaults like it should instead of system colors as defaults which breaks about 90% of the badly coded websites in the world, including firefox's own start page
RoChess
LinuxDolt, matching colors sometimes gives me bald spots from pulling my hairs :)
LinuxDolt
it seems i'm going to have to do more than just put a universal selector in userContent.css, unfortunately
RoChess
lol, Google Wave has no support for Opera
mavhc
or IE
RoChess
i can't waste too much time on it, so i guess i am forced to use IE now
at least u guys confirmed it wasn't my fault for not knowing a hidden FF option :)
ty
LinuxDolt
ah, i didn't even realize there was an option for it anywhere at all
here's what that netsekure site he linked to looks like so far for me: http://omploader.org/vNG95ZQ ... notice that the larger area of real content is correctly changed, but the filler spaces are still following system theme
that's with putting a universal selector in my userContent.css that changes color to black and background to white
imo, firefox should just ignore system colors for site rendering altogether by default and use sane defaults instead... would save us dark theme users a lot of grief
(Action) wonders what konq does in this situation, just for curiousity
Cork[home]
bah he left...
heres a bumped version if anyone wants it, haven't tested it though http://www.mediafire.com/?2bwiodnge2y
LinuxDolt
ooh... that site is -supposed- to be dark... my userContent shouldn't change that site...
yeah... that site has all the colors defined, and i didn't put an !important in my userContent
hm... somewhat improved... firefox start looks decent, and that site is improved.
(Action) changed from universal selector to body tag
i could probably tweak it some more, but this works well enough
y'know... so far firefox was the browser that made things the hardest to figure out for getting things working with a dark desktop theme. arora did it right out of the box, and everyone else had a clear config option that practically screamed at you that's how to do it
so far...

wireshark
Xeross: noone is here

wireshark

bonez2046
where does firefox store bookmarks?
I have several firefox installations and various past versions.. I want to import all my bookmarks but can't find the bookmarks files..
Xeross
bonez2046: You can export them from your old installation
and I think they're saved in bookmarks.html or something
but that doesn't matter when you export
bonez2046
what if I can't load up the old installation, can I somehow just grab the appropriate files instead?
Xeross
in your profile folder there's bookmarks.html

the20year11
is there a way to defeat a search engine hijack? I got that stupid 'antivirus 2010' thin , and it's forwarding all my search traffic to 3rd party engines
rjohnson19
the20year11: the search bar is set to say, Google, but its going somewhere else? are other browsers affected?
the20year11
i havent checked ie yet

JeroenDeDauw
I'm having problems installing firefox on kubuntu. The "install firefox on kde" app failed miserably and is now saying the needed packages are already installed when I run it, but no firefox to be found...
Anyone an idea how to get rid of the bloody thing and do a clean install?
The_Pot

error4o4
Cork[home]: i know, but nothing
I reinstalled my system and installed the latest FF version
rjohnson19
error4o4: you could give http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions_-_Firefox#Corrupt_extension_files a try
Cork[home]
(Action) nods
error4o4
ok
Cork[home]
reinstalled the system??
you mean reinstalled firefox or...?
error4o4
no the OS.. so put a fresh FF version.. Firebug was working nice before
Cork[home]
reinstalling firefox doesn't change much if you use the same firefox profile
btw, why didn't you update to firefox 3.6.3 when you where at it?
error4o4
gonna update now
i thought 3.5.9 was the latest one.. my mistake
Cork[home]
