I've noticed that keyword search bookmarks often garble my search terms. Is there an easy way to make firefox correctly encode the keywords?
For example if I use my google keyword search to search for 'c++' it actually searches for 'c'.
If I go to the google page and type c++ into the form field it does the correct search.

If I paste javascript:location='http://www.bing.com/' into the address bar FF goes to bing but if I then paste in javascript:location='http://www.google.com/' it will not go to google.
In fact, once I've changed the location using javascript, any subsequent javascript in the address bar doesn't get executed.
Why not?
Cork
works just fine here
what os?
and what version of firefox?
Lewoco
windows and FF 3.6.3
Cork
windows as?
xp, vista or 7?
Lewoco
xp
Just tried downgrading to FF 3.5 and it didn't help.
Currently in the process of disabling various extensions.
kbrosnan
works for me as well, check firefox's safe mode
Cork
i just tested in xp, and it works there too
so ya, safe mode

Just disabled all my extensions and now it works.
So one of them must be screwing with me.
Turns out it had something to to with NoScript.
I couldn't work out which setting exactly.
But after I reset all settings to default, the javascript in address bar worked ok again.

Is there an addon that can make the firefox address bar suggest things like google chrome does? I want the top thing it finds to be selected after the text that I'm typing in so I can press enter when I know it is right instead of down enter.

I have a strange problem, when 'Sending Document as Email' within OpenOffice, it wont work if Thunderbird is currently open, if I close TB and send again it works. Funny thing is though, if i start OOo from command line /usr/bin/oocalc for example, and try send document as email while thunderbird is open, it works 100%, what could be the problem? OOo 3.2.0, TB 3.04

hi everyone. I'm having trouble showing some images in firefox 3.6.3 - they are SVG, but not embedded in html. Created with inkscape. If I view the image as a separate document, it shows up correctly, but if it's in an <img> tag, it doesn't. Chrome shows the same webpage correctly, so I guess it's a firefox thing. The mimetype is image/svg+xml
any ideas?

hi
how does the firefox determine if a download failed?
alloosh
hi, where are cookies stored? I am on ubuntu

pcgenius
alloosh:hello
alloosh
pcgenius: well hello:)
pcgenius
alloosh:so you want to see your cookies
?
alloosh
pcgenius: yes
pcgenius
alloosh:just go to edit->prefrences
alloosh:then privacy tab and
alloosh
pcgenius: I dont want that, I want to see the file where its stored
pcgenius
alloosh:then click on remove indiviual cookies
alloosh:ok
alloosh:just go to your home folder
alloosh:then show hidden folder by ctrl+h
alloosh:then their is a folder .mozilla
alloosh:then their is a folder .mozilla/firefox
alloosh:then their is a folder named as Default user(if u have never created a new profile)
Cork
pcgenius: the first folder is always called "default"
pcgenius
alloosh:go into it and you can find a file cookies.sqlite
Cork
not Default user
pcgenius
Cork:thanks for correcting me
Cork:i am sorry for mistake
Cork
pcgenius: no problem, its an easy mistake to make
Default user is what profile manager will call the profile, if you don't rename it
(if you create a new one)
pcgenius
Cork:yes you are correct
alloosh:so go into /home/.mozilla/default/
alloosh:so go into /home/.mozilla/firefox/default/

Cork
wolf

*built
pcgenius
Cork:ok but i am seeing this first time anyways who is responsabile for it's programming
Cork:ok
Cork
<_<'
pcgenius
Cork:sorry for again typing
Cork
pcgenius: its only us to talking, you don't have to prefix every line :D

Is there a way to have FireFox block 3rd-party cookies?
wart___
hi. i'd like to be able to change the url in firefox via an external program running from the commandline.
is this possible without starting a new instance of firefox?
pcgenius
wart__:hi
wart__:which language you are using?
wart___
sorry I guess I should refine my question: if I have firefox open, firefox "
I'd like it to simply replace the current with the new uri
pcgenius: well, its just bash and dmenu
kbrosnan
wart___: well there is http://www.mozilla.org/unix/remote.html
wart___
yeah the defautl behaviour seems to be to open a new tab
pcgenius
wart__:hey if you type firefox http://www.google.com
at bash
wart___
e.g. firefox -remote "openurl(
pcgenius: ditto for firefox http://www.google.com
pcgenius
then it will open google.com in new tab in the same inestance
wart___
or firefox new-tab http://www.google.com
pcgenius: yeah it opens google.com in a new tab in the same instance.
i want it to open google.com NOT in a new tab but in the same instance
i.e. it should replace the extant tab or window
pcgenius
wart__:ok
wart__:just wait for a while i am looking for it
kbrosnan
they generally try to be non-destructive as users could easily have content that could be lost http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_FAQs_:_About:config_Entries
wart___
ahh there's a preference that i had checked: open new windows in new tabs
kbrosnan
might have a useful pref
wart___
that fixed it
oh wait
no it didn't; now it opens a new window
*sigh*
on a side note (I appreciate the help btw!) is there a way to default to full-screen mode?
kbrosnan
wart___: only with extensions

hi all...I've been searching google but haven't found anything definitive...is it possible to launch some firefox extensions as stand alone apps that can take input?
kbrosnan
dave_mwi1: yes, xulrunner allows for that
dave_mwi1
kbrosnan: mmm xulrunner...i've never heard of that. I'm running linux, is it a stand-alone application?
kbrosnan: actually I see the executable...just need to look at the params I suppose. Thanks for the tip!

Anyone know how I can style my firefox window with gtk(normal behavior), not modify anything on the page? I use a dark theme and it clashes with the styles in place on some pages leaving me with things like black input boxes with black text which as you can imagine is not readable.
hope I don't get boned for cross-posting, but gonan check irc.mozilla.org too. :P
