Hello. I wonder if there are any programs for Ubuntu to share folders / drives between Ubuntu and Win 7 in the home network?
sorry, wrong channel.
Vespuccian
Anyone available here?
I need some help on installing the latest version of Flash.
John1
What are the problems you have with install Adobe Flash?
Vespuccian
I wanted the installation file for Flash 10.1 for Firefox.
John1
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP :)
Vespuccian
That is installed through an add-on.
John1
Check also if you have more outdated plugins for Firefox: https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
Vespuccian
John1, nope, no outdated plug-ins.
mogra
serious question here. In a discussion about browser history with some buds and curious because we can't seem to find anything that was _actually_ innovated (like, original concept, or first to do it) by Firefox. Figured this'd be a good place to ask on that.

sdwilsh
the adaptive location bar was firefox
I think pop-up blocking? opera might have beaten it
azazul
hi what do you mean by adaptive location ? if thats what i think it is , then IE6 had such
sdwilsh
IE6 only bases it on the location
Arzachel
nice thing that it also searches the page title
sdwilsh
whereas firefox is adaptive on what you typed and which one it is supposed to match + searching on title and page
azazul
sdwilsh: since which version ?
sdwilsh
firefox 3.0
mogra
still, that's an innovation, and now everyone has it.
azazul
then it doesnt count, opera had search-when-type-in-address-bar since 9.0
sdwilsh
are you comparing release dates for when things appear in products?
azazul
does XUL count as innovation ?
sdwilsh
because Firefox plans things out in the open
so competitors see what is being planned long before it's implemented
mogra
xD
sdwilsh
for example, mozilla was talking about private browsing before Firefox 3.0 was even released
it didn't make it until Firefox 3.5
at which point, every other browser had implemented something like it
tracing is something that is still unique to firefox
AnxiousNut
is there an addon that make changing proxy settings very simple and fast? thanks :)
kbrosnan
AnxiousNut: foxy proxy
kid_cudi
er how come firefox doesnt support CSS: border-radius
zpao
kid_cudi: -moz-border-radius
kid_cudi
why do i have to use that
why cant firefox just implement C S S
zpao
kid_cudi: i think because it's not standard yet, webkit has a different syntax
or something like that

kid_cudi
dam it
zpao
http://www.css3.info/preview/rounded-border/
kid_cudi

whens 4 coming out
dolske

kid_cudi

kbrosnan

kid_cudi
but its not gecko anymore right
kbrosnan
still gecko
kid_cudi
wtf
wasnt it suposta switch to something super fast
kbrosnan
kid_cudi: maybe you are talking about the javascript engine?
kid_cudi
probably
whats that gona be
kbrosnan
spidermonkey to tracemonkey to jagermonkey
kid_cudi
how much faster
kbrosnan
spidermonkey being the older implementation
kid_cudi
will firefox load faster. cause its slow to load
kbrosnan
there has been a ton of work to reduce startup time on Firefox
kid_cudi
kewl
kbrosnan
http://autonome.wordpress.com/tag/startup/ has a lot of info on that
kid_cudi
cool. so from now til end of year whats coming

"NO."
AnxiousNut
is there a way to save temporary cookie forever?
is there a way to save cookies separately?
Aquaguy
Hey
Does Firefox support the HTML5 header tag?
AnxiousNut
Aquaguy, all i know is that it depends on the version! I dont know cause im a trespasser, the pros dont talk here (?!!) im actually waiting for an answer for my question! But try googling firefox <version> html5 header
kbrosnan
Aquaguy: firefox 4 will have a html5 parser. though a fair html5 should work in current releases
Aquaguy
[kbrosnan] thank you for the info

Cork
sylbot: you mean you tested on this network=
?
thunderbird are on the irc.mozilla.com network

sylbot
oh sorry, i just double clicked that link you gave me

when i change settings in about:config, they don't actually get saved. i'm using linux. any ideas?
Cork
mollison: check your file permissons in ~/.mozilla
mollison
Cork: I did chown <username>:users -R in my ~
also i thought that was it
shouldn't that have fixed it if that was the problem? or could there still be a permissions problem?
Cork
mollison: try renaming prefs.js to prefs.js.broken
it might be that your prefs file is corrupt
(do this while firefox is closed)
mollison
all right, will try. is this normal?
-rw-r--r-- 1 mollison users 3194 Jun 14 22:59 prefs.js
i renamed prefs.js
Cork
mollison: users isn't normal (at least not in ubuntu)
mollison
Cork: this is arch linux, i think it's normal here
accessibility.typeaheadfind.enablesound;true
that's the key that keeps changing back
there's another one that changes back
extensions.liberator.saved.accessibility.typeaheadfind.enablesound;true
it seems like other ones actually are doing what i tell them to... but those are the two that i'm interested in changing, lol.
Cork
mollison: check in safe mode
looks like this is caused by an extension
cause it works fine here
mollison
could be. thanks for the input :-)

mollison
i'll uninstall vimperator and see if that helps.
Cork: thanks for your help. Strangely, it seems that vimperator is modifying these settings. For future reference:
http://code.google.com/p/vimperator-labs/issues/detail?id=204
Cork
mollison: try a mozilla build
you want 3.5 or 3.6?
mollison
oh, i'm quite satisfied with controlling the settings through vimperator, now that i know that's the way to go.
Cork
mollison: i mean it might very well be that the problem isn't part of firefox
mollison
what i suspect is that vimperator resets the settings regarding error bell noises to be turned on, unless you specify that you want them off (e.g. in ~/.vimperatorrc)... so I don't think this is actually a bug, it's a "feature" of vimperator.
i.e. vimperator users are supposed to control error bell sound settings through vimperator, not through about:config. hope i'm not being patronizing :-)
joako
I can't access some https site and I get the error "(Error code: sec_error_reused_issuer_and_serial)"... how do I bypass that?
Cork
joako: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=3213802&sid=6bf012fa8cc273aedbc4e9b61d59fdd2
joako
Cork, So no solution? I can't access multiple HP iLO servers from Firefox...
Cork
joako: you can if you don't have conflicting certs
(and you shouldn't have to have that)
joako
Cork, Right well I guess HP makes all their certs with the same serial number
Cork
joako: that is what they should do
but you have two certs for the same domain with different serials, thats why firefox complain
joako
Oh its by domain
It's because I access them all on localhost via ssh tunnel
I don't need ssh but it forces it

hello guys, any tips how can I add file association system-wise under Linux?

khaase
anybody using nightly tester tools?
how do i do a "override all compatibility" with the new extension interface (about:addons)?
auscompgeek
you can't
you have to use a pref

mossop said that he doesn't feel like updating NTT as well, so don't expect an update
khaase
auscompgeek: I actually like this better. Had to do 'override compatibility' whenever I switched between stable and trunk.
didn't know about the config option
auscompgeek
that's because it's hidden
;)
Shar16
When is Firefox 3.7 going to be released?
auscompgeek
never, 4.0 will be released
Shar16
What's the timeline for 4.0?
auscompgeek
Should be on wiki.mozilla.org somewhere.

Using thunderbird. How can I convert html emails sent to me to plain text, and set my client to NEVER respond in html e-mail?
i.e., to always just send the text I type, and not convert it to some html sh*t.

a pretty cool example of the possibilities of modern browsers imo
and firefox is the only none-beta browser that it runs on too ;)

I have a fresh install 3.6.3 am missing file edit bookmarks etc...do not see a way to add them, any ideas?
RandomTime
Running the latest firefox on ubuntu 10.04 - Downloads never complete in the UI, they end at "a few seconds remaining" 99%. In the OS, I can access them as normal, and they're the full file, but firefox reports them at 99%

Hi. How do I view/edit Thunderbird filter settings via command line in linux please?
Drule
Hi. I'm looking for a good, solid calendar application to be used along my Firefox browser and Thunderbird e-mail client, but the range of applications offered on Mozilla is confusing me. Apparently SeaMonkey, Sunbird and Lightning are all valid options, so which one should I choose?
Oh, I was forwarded to #firefox.
starspot
Is there a file in my ~/.thunderbird/ that contains Thunderbird email filter settings and data?
xTEMPLARx
how come firefox takes up all my system resources and is so heavy, even after I close all my youtube tabs? this is maddening! ARGH!
starspot
give it up xTEMPLARx - no body's home here

Does FF 3 have access keys?
wikipedia says it has but it doesn't work for me http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Access_key
GarrettW
yep, Alt+Shift+key works for me
kkb110
:( strange... alt+shift.. nothing happens
GarrettW
well the website has to support it of course
try my site.... garrettw.net
and look at the top link bar
kkb110
really? it seems konqueror does it without support..
GarrettW
on my site, try Alt+Shift+C, and that should take you to the contact page
kkb110
oh I see. I've got it
GarrettW
well the website has to define what accesskeys do what
kkb110
but this is not that useful because most sites don't support it
GarrettW
right
like on my site i have <a href="..." accesskey="c">
kkb110
I miss something that Konqueror has
GarrettW
in the code
kkb110
I don't understand why people have not made a plugin for this
