Cork[home]
coolkehon: is there something in perticular your looking for?
coolkehon
no not really, what does html5 have that is new Cork[home], is there some place I can test it out at?
Cork[home]
coolkehon: video, audio, canvas tags
coolkehon
I have version 3.6.3 of firefox(namorka) is that new enough?
Cork[home]
some structur tags, for header, (menu i think), footer and so on
coolkehon: its new enough for those three yet
yes
coolkehon
Cork[home]: is there a place I can test and see what html5 can do?
Cork[home]
there is some new form field types, like numberic and attributes to set validation
sure
http://html5test.com/
kbrosnan
http://openvideo.dailymotion.com/us and most of the video on wikipedia.org is compatable with the html5 video Firefox uses
coolkehon
thanks

Cork[home]
coolkehon: a warning though, both google, and apple miss use the term "html5" so some sites might call things that has nothing or little to do with html5 for that
like css3, or svg
coolkehon
ok
alket
Where is Firefox 4 coming out :D
coolkehon
*when
I just got namorka named to firefox using firebrand
:D
*renamed
kbrosnan
alket: q4 2010 atm
alket_
coolkehon, sorry When is Firefox 4 coming out ?
coolkehon
alket: I have q4 2010 atm
alket
what is that coolkehon
coolkehon
quater 4 of this year
like ... 4/4 of this year
alket
yes I understand
coolkehon
summer spring fall WINTER of this year
Cork[home]
also known as end of november :)
coolkehon
(Action) scratches head
I think
._.
alket
does it support html5 ?
Cork[home]
3.6.3 does...
coolkehon
the current version does already for the most part
Cork[home]
well not most part
but for much of the interesting parts :)
kbrosnan
firefox 4 will support the stable parts of html5, the spec won't be finished till 2022 or so
alket
what ?
kbrosnan,
?
Cork[home]
alket: hes joking (a little) ;)
the spec isn't finnished by quite a long shot

kbrosnan
not really hixie has quoted a date in the 2020s
coolkehon
-_-
I thought that html5 had been released already
Cork[home]
hmm, so about 13-14 years for the standardisation, well not to bad...
coolkehon: no, not at all
much of the spec is still in draft state
kbrosnan
w3 has a farily convoluted method of declaring a spec complete
alket
but it will support video playing like youtube, right ?
Cork[home]
alket: that depends on youtube
kbrosnan
the developer preview for alpha 5 will support webm
coolkehon
why does it take 13-14 years to release a spec for web browsers?
Cork[home]
as what they use won't even be posible to support on the web, freely
coolkehon
by that time you could just create a new browser for it
alket
Cork[home], who develops HTML5 ?
Cork[home]
alket: "develop"?
html5 is a spec, not something that is developed
browsers implement solutions the follow the html5 spec
alket
Cork[home], anyway who "creates" it ?
Cork[home]
w3c group
kbrosnan
a group of invited members by the w3c
Cork[home]
(Action) has forgotten the name right now >_<'
kbrosnan
though html5 has been slightly more open
http://www.w3.org/2000/09/dbwg/details?group=40318&public=1
Cork[home]
ah, watwg
thats the name i was looking for
alket
Cork[home], thanks
kbrosnan
Cork[home]
alket: but your most likly talking about codecs, more then html5 there
codecs arn't specified by html5, and the codec youtube has choosed to use, has BIG patent problems
kbrosnan
Cork[home]: google/youtube has webm avaible now
Cork[home]
ow
i missed that >_>
(Action) has to fiddle with minefield to morrow then :>
kbrosnan
Cork[home]: http://hacks.mozilla.org/2010/05/firefox-youtube-and-webm/
Cork[home]
alket: in that case i think its verry likly that youtube will work in all browsers
tech13
Is there a link documenting how to customize the template profile firefox uses? looking to add an rss bookmark to all new profiles on a machine.
Cork[home]
kbrosnan: that was really exiting!, thx for the link
alket
Cork[home], would it be the same for 64bits ?
Cork[home]
ya
firefox works on 64 bit nativly for every system except windows as it is
windows works, but has some kinks
(this is in minefield though)
alket
Cork[home], I use Ubuntu 64bit and Flash s***s
kbrosnan
though webm playback is still quite alpha, numerous dropped frames and such
Cork[home]
alket: i run firefox 64 happily in ubuntu
alket
Cork[home], but sometimes it doesn't recognise mouse while clicking and sometimes it displays totally white
Cork[home]
no problem, except an annoying security device + ns plugin :s
alket: are you talking about video now or?
alket
no just Youtube
with Flas
*flash
Cork[home]
ah, well i talked about firefox 64 bit, not so much about youtube or flash
but i haven't had much problems with flash my self
alket
Cork[home], for that reason I must use google chrome sometimes
Cork[home], have you noticed when zooming images in firefox (Ctrl +) it looses quality but not in Google Chrome
Cork[home]
alket: its known
they where scared to go fill out when they implemented the image filters
full
alket
I really hope that Firefox 4 will be better for linux
Cork[home]
i like whats in minefield now, so i think it will be good
alket: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75077
i think thats the one
alket
Cork[home], wow that bug is from 2001 and they didn't fix it ?
I lost hope
Cork[home]
alket: its not by far as simple as that
its not that they can't fix it, its that there is complications in doing so (slow systems won't manage)
coolkehon
when will firefox support the seperate threads/processes like google chrome / chromium does where if one tab / page fails then the whole browser does not fail?
also what is it called?
process seperation?
alket
coolkehon, Im Firefox fun but it's amazing how Chromium/me implements new technologies in their browser
coolkehon
mhm
I remember hearing that firefox was supposed to get it too
alket
coolkehon, Chrom is better than firefox for SPEED, Zooming Images, Less-crashing etc. but i still user Firefox because i think its more secure because chrome doesn't regocnise some Certificated https
for instance I wanted to download something from packages.ubuntu.com it didn't let me in
coolkehon
I like using firefox because of the plugins and security and custimization features
I really want the process seperation feature though so if one tab fails or freezes the other ones still work
if I use a master password with firefox how does it encrypt my stored passwords?
Steev43230
Any Chatzilla people here?
Question is: Is there a way to prevent my chat channels from being displayed to some one who opens a private chat?
rjohnson19
coolkehon: how does it encrypt? if you mean the algorithm, 3DES in CBC Mode.
Waste
oh come on, steev - 2 minutes, really ):
coolkehon
rjohnson19: how come firefox doesn't use AES?
rjohnson19
don't know.
the20year1
could anyone tell me how to specify a password in firefox for a proxy so I don't have to type it in every time it pops up?
thefirstdude
is there an addon to make firefox cache more, or give more ctrl over cacheing?
I wanna be able to browse pages in offline mode
kbrosnan
thefirstdude: not in 3.6, 4.0 should be able to handle larger caches. but a caching proxy would work the best
the20year1: never used a proxy behind a password
dolske
coolkehon: mostly just because that's how it was originally implemented, migration to AES is a pain as currently implemented, and it doesn't really matter unless you're using a huge complex passphrase.
dsfwea23
can anyone explain to me how the stopbadware.org / warn me about infected sites works in firefox? Are all my URLs sent out to them?
WXZ
how would I change the keyboard bindings for firefox in ubuntu
Plouj
hi
can anyone think of an extension to let me navigate between non-adjacent firefox tabs in a forward/backward fasion similar to navigating between pages? I want to be able to go back to the previous tab I've viewed without having to go through the intermediate tabs.

hi all
i am trying to set an svg image as background, which loads f9 in google-chrome but not in firefox, why so???

Inv1s1ble
I know Ctrl+K will get you to the search box, but are there hotkeys to cycle up and down through the active search engines?
nevermind...ctrl+k <up/down>
fishoneeyed
hi, how can run a java apllication in Browse? needs Plugins? or add-ons?
Inv1s1ble
java.sun.com
fishoneeyed: java.sun.com. Instlal the Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE). Be sure to unclick the Yahoo toolbar
If you have a mac, it's all ready installed
if you have linux, get it from the package manager
fishoneeyed
Inv1s1ble: but not java applet. java application.
Inv1s1ble
? There's Java web start, which lets developers embed java apps in a website that can be launched locally...not many people use that (we use it at work)
most people don't even use Applets anymore. Those are kinda dead in place of Flash
lcarvalho
hi, for a given website there is an icon of RSS on the address bar. How can I define the link of this RSS icon?
webPragmatist
is it possible to prevent firefox from clearing cache when you request a page?
or just viewing a page from cache instead
kbrosnan
webPragmatist: there are some extensions that will strip the pages no-cache requests. though i would not rely on firefox's cache too much
webPragmatist
kbrosnan: i was actually trying to pull up an old chat transcript
kbrosnan
webPragmatist: you can check about:cache but i doubt that you will find anything of use
webPragmatist
okay
I think i can just switch it to offline mode

Hello, i'm trying to get firefox to open smb:// in dolphin (KDE), I've tried setting this: network.protocol-handler.app.smb (string) /usr/bin/dolphin
network.protocol-handler.external.smb (boolean) true
but it seems not to be working
kbrosnan
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Register_protocol#Firefox_3.5_specific__.28works_without_installed_Gnome_libraries.29

disculpen hay chanel de chatzilla?
germ86
hi
jshanab
Sorry if this is wrong channel no seamonkey and mozilla forwards. I have avoided upgradeing seamonkey 2.0 or firefox because I didn't like a lot of the changes (To me they feel like someone hired a bunch of miscrosoft programmers) anyway when I send an email, it is adding a line at the top "chrome://messenger/locale/messengercompose/composeMsgs.properties:" really stupid and annoying (and...
...the quote indention character is change to the microsoft outlook style grr) Any way to configure this?
kbrosnan
jshanab: #seamonkey can be found on irc.mozilla.org
jshanab
ok, thanks
