I use Thunderbird on linux, what is the best way for me to export all my email accounts and settings to another linux machine?
TheBrayn
I guess saving ~/.thunderbird should suffice
I am not sure though

Hallo.
kthomas_vh
how to change CTRL-SHIFT-P to NOT invoke private browsing???
hal1
i have thi sissue with firefox
i seem to have flash ads embedded on a lot of sites
even sites that doesnt have ads
kthomas_vh
sounds like you have an infection :|
hal1
yeah
ive been trying to clean it out
ive tried so many things
malwarebytes, combofix, thecleaner, avira antivirus, spybot s&d, spywareblaster
i deleted firefox and reinstalled it
and the ads go to bcserving.com or something
jjmartin
i blocked the cert from a site. how do i un block it and download it?
firefox sux
[[n1x]]
lol

DustyDingo
hm, in which files does flash store it's configuration in the profile directory?
Diverdude
Hello, where does thunderbird store its emails?
physically...where on the HD?
Cork[home]
what os?
Diverdude?
Diverdude
ubuntu
Raccoon`
and how can i configure firefox so i never see a "would you like to resend data" when i hit back history
...
How can I configure firefox to retain cached pages regardless of the page's security or cache preference
kbrosnan
Raccoon`: via extensions, don't know about the first part, but the second definatly has extesnions avaible to do that
Raccoon`
to retain a page in the cache?
kbrosnan
though a caching proxy would do a better job than Firefox's cache. Firefox can only cache several thousand objects and will clear itself on a crash
yes
Raccoon`
and it would be firefox's standard browser history cache, and not some offline page viewing save-every-page-you-visit addon?
simply ignore security settings
kbrosnan
would what?
Raccoon`
if it renders, it stays in the back button
kbrosnan
hm?
Raccoon`
by default, secure pages aren't supposed to cache, and apparently there are some HTTP headers and META tags that are supposed to prohibit page caching
i want Firefox to simply ignore all that.
Cache everything. Bugger all.
kbrosnan
would need an extension. don't know if they will cache ssl pages too
Raccoon`
which should by default rid the "resend data" screen
kbrosnan
i don't know
Raccoon`
no about:config option for this huh
kbrosnan
no
Raccoon`
never will be?
kbrosnan
doubtful

Raccoon`
seems strange
that Firefox should honor this particular convention, when it can ignore most other 'server host wishes'
SSL is supposed to be a secure transfer protocol. not a "protect me from myself" protocol :(
donics
I think I've found a privacy issue/bug and i'm not really sure how ot report it
using 3.6.3, if you drag a new, blank tab to the bookmarks toolbar, it will use what looks like a random cached favicon
Peng_
donics: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org.

hi
I am able to modify my about:config via the browser
however I would like to do it on a cron
is it possible to modify these details via the command line?
mconnor
Guest67979: not while the app is running
though an extension could register a command line handler to do that
Guest67979
the browser can be closed, then it would make the change and then re-run it
mconnor
sure, then you just want to modify prefs.js
donics
If I have firefox set to clear my cache when it closes, should favicons be cleared out as well?
mconnor
donics: favicons aren't stored in cache
so... probably not.
donics
Ah, ok
mconnor
iirc, clearing all history items using a favicon will clear that favicon, but we don't blindly clear it so as to not nuke bookmark favicons
donics
hmm
This is all in the bug report, but it looks like that may not be the case
mconnor
I may be wrong, indeed
donics
Either way, first bug submitted. Exciting!
Guest67979
mconnor: thanks, I will give that a try (sorry phone rang, hence my slow reply)
chrome_
hi, what do you think of browsers that create one process per each opened tab?
desktop pcs are now sold with 4 core chips, that could be an advantage right?
Peng_
I think I'd run out of PIDs.
chrome_
yes, but that browsers can process tabs in parallel, adding performance to the browser
Many times I see my firefox staling because of a tab, and I can't do nothing with it until that tab processment is done
this also works for plugins
Is firefox planning in any way to take advantage of multicore CPUs in the future?
Peng_
chrome_
oh nice!
Peng_: But, for when? any dates?
Peng_
Probably some vague ones, but I don't know them.
chrome_
"Schedule Goal: 1-April-2010 "
Peng_
Haha
You can try out out-of-process plugins already.
chrome_
oh ok :)
I'll try them
Guest67979
hi
can i run firefox headless?
kbrosnan
Guest67979: does not need a monitor but does need an xserver, though some what limited commands exist
infid
about:cache?device=disk is telling me "Expires: 1969-12-31 16:00:00" for my site but i'm not setting any Expires header and used Live HTTP Headers to verify this. Does that mean firefox automatically sets Expires to that date in the past if it's not set by the server?
Peng_
Probably.
1969-12-31T16:00:00-08:00 = Unix timestamp 0.
Guest67979
kbrosnan: thanks, got it working ish :)
infid
thanks
unix epoch was 1970 (1970-01-01T00:00:00Z in iso time) but you showed an iso time too, do they mean the exact same thing or the 1970 version mean unix tiemstamp 1 second?
Peng_
infid: I was assuming your time zone was UTC-08:00.
infid
my server is -5:00
Peng_
What about your client?
Azeotrope
How do I use multiple firefox profiles at the same time?
david-w
I dont think you can
Peng_
Azeotrope: Pass -no-remote to Firefox, or set MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1 in the environment.
Azeotrope
Peng_: thanks. it works
frxstrem
is it possible to disable the domain name auto completion (i.e. when I type 'a', it goes to 'www.a.com' instead) in Firefox?
infid
Peng_: since it's PDT right now my client is UTC-7
mavhc
frxstrem: you can always a; ctrl-enter
frxstrem
mavhc: no, I want the opposite effect (I do not want the 'www' and the '.com')
idl0r
guys, is there an "easy" way to compile mozilla addons? in my case minimizetotray-plus for thunderbird
i thought i can use the system xulrunner and wrote a Makefile myself
http://dpaste.com/192253/
but it doesn't compile as expected: http://dpaste.com/192252/
s/compile/link/
Thell
lol... more than likely old news, but cool none the less: https://panopticlick.eff.org/
try that with and without javascript enabled and see the difference in how identifiable you are. My number went from ~400K to ~850K
Just goes to show... using no-script is somewhat helpful
