hj guys if you need any help I am free
winXPuser
hi
ah I see
:P
macman_
hi all . . trying to change my flash/shockwave settings in firefox/ubuntu .. i changed schockwave to gnash or swfdec but the video won't load in firefox .. how can i fix this ?
does linux/ubuntu have any other kind of shockwave / future splash player other then adobe ?
Peng_
macman_: Gnash?
macman_: Err, wait, that's probably just Flash...
(Action) shrugs
macman_
i don't want to use adobes flash
DrSp0ckk
OK, so hardily anyone is at #thunderbird on mozilla.org, so I'll ask here. Does anyone use Lightning with Thunderbird? I want to know if I can sync it with my Google account.
Peng_
Even fewer people are here.
Oh. Maybe not. But still.
DrSp0ckk
Peng_: Than the #thunderbird channel @ irc.mozilla.org? No.
Peng_
DrSp0ckk: Yeah, I know that now.

DrSp0ckk
If you'll permit my question here, perhaps I'll get a result?
Peng_
I don't mind if you ask; I just don't think you'll have much success.
DrSp0ckk
The attempt is free. Any result is therefore pure profit.
kbrosnan
there is a #calendar on imo as well
DrSp0ckk
I've found some results on Google which could resolve my issue, or at the minimum provide a solution to my problem.
teadict
so I stumbled upon http://apirocks.com/html5/html5.html and I now wonder if the next release (the one that will be official and include all the current nightly builds with the ECMA5 goodies and such) will let us develop applications already including all of that stuff
DrSp0ckk
Peng_, kbrosnan: I have found a solution to my problem: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/4631 (which I obtained from: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=540330).
This is certainly something worth remembering for furture reference.
teadict
I guess my question wants to know if from the next release on I can tell my client "we do it specifically for Firefox because: Geolocation, JS awesome new API, WebWorkers, etc, etc, etc"
is there a Firefox roadmap somwhere?
kbrosnan
teadict
thanks
kbrosnan
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/HTML/HTML5
teadict
so, 1.9.3 will be out in this Q.. that's great.. 3.7pre already includes lots of awesome goodies!
right?
kbrosnan
no
teadict
then why all those nice examples in the slides I pasted work in the nightly build?
kbrosnan
a number of them are pre-existing features
teadict
meanning they are already in 1.9.2/3.6?
kbrosnan
some
teadict
but I'm interested in next release, which is in Q1/Q2
bah.. as I said.. most of those goodies in the slides work in 3.7pre.. so that's awesome enough
kbrosnan
it won't be in q1, really doubtful on q2, q3ish seems possible. depends on when they release the first 3.7beta
teadict
awww
busy times, huh?

kbrosnan
then add 2-3 months to stablilize and do release canidates
yeah they are focusing on shipping out of process plugins for 3.6 which should be a big stablility win
that site has some dated info, microdata has been split to its own spec. mp3/mp4 audio and video are not handled by Firefox, need ogg/theora
teadict
oic
kbrosnan
site seems very webkit orientated
as there are css features such as columns that firefox supports
ah the site was dev'ed by google
teadict
kbrosnan: yet, Chrome doesn't support Geo
kbrosnan
really? that is odd since google is a geo location data provider
flyback
hey

nvictor
hello :)
i want to make my fx installation portable
actually the old one cannot
but i got binaries (windows) from binaryturf
and it is in a single folder
now i want to know what folders it needs from the old installation to get all the extensions and profiles?
winXPuser
nvictor
thanks
"Note that some extensions store data in additional files in the profile, usually at the top of the directory. You'll need to move them separately. "
where is that top directory this is talking about?
winXPuser
like not in /xxxxx.default/extensions/myaddonid/, but in /xxx.default/addonname/
greasemonkey, chatzilla do it
nvictor
hmm
wait winXPuser
winXPuser
yes
nvictor
i was not looking at the right folder
i was looking at the firefox installation folder
winXPuser
that happens
nvictor
does that mean i can simple copy all of application data's folder and use the new installation?
uninstalling the old of course
wow
what a mess
i give up installing a new firefox
winXPuser
application data?
nvictor
yes
let's just pretend this one is fast
winXPuser
c;/settings/user/applicationdata/mozilla/firefox/ <-this one
nvictor
i know
i took a look
winXPuser
copying this one should be fine
(while keeping firefox closed)
nvictor
i think i will just keep this version and upgrade when the time comes :)
do they plan to make firefox more portable in the future?
winXPuser
whatwhat is your current version?
rjohnson19
You could use http://portableapps.com/news/2010-04-02_-_firefox_portable_3.6.3, I'm not sure if you want something more than what that does?
winXPuser
i'm in 3.7..a5pre
please do upodate to 3.6.3
what's your current version? 3.6.3 is must-to-have
nvictor
oh sorry
i was aways
-s
3.6.4
Vimperator :D
winXPuser
then no need to upgrade I guess
nvictor
no no
it's not because my version is old
it's because that binaryturf or something version is supposed to be faster
alright people see you later
nicknameious
can you add a summary after the edit is published without one?

qdb
hm, my firefox hanged, i killed it , now ru pack is installed but firefox is english, and there are many language packs

winXPuser
err, one second

qdb
and en-gb

winXPuser
or maybe to ru-RU, I don't know
qdb

winXPuser
you need
to close firefox completely
to be sure that it is absent in app manager
after then, start it,
it should be in russian
qdb

winXPuser
do you see it listed in tools -- addons -- language packs?
qdb
yes
winXPuser
that pref should be set to
ru
and it works here
check it again, is that pref ru now?
qdb
i try to install it again, and then try other pack

Does anybody know how to force Firefox to browse a file:/// link that does NOT end in html as html? When I set the MIME type in ~/.mime.type to text/html it prompts me to see if i want to open the file in the helper appliaction 'Firefox'.... and if I say yes, it just reprompts--- thereby creating an infinite mime loop.
qdb
but this time i quit with quit, not with restart
may be this is because my hack to ubuntu locale system.
jcox
The reason I care about this is that I have a template file that does not end in .html but it is still valid html ... so i want to just point the browser at it on the file system and *see* it as html.... this seem like it ought to be possible, but the infinite mime loop as me stumped. Any ideas?
winXPuser
view-source:file:///path/to/file
qdb
still english
jcox
Win: that's the issue. If I say: firefox file://path/to/myfile.html everything is just fine, of course.
qdb
ok
(wtong channel)
DracoDanLT
is it just me, or do buttons and text boxxes look different between firefox 3.5 and 3.6 (both windows)
ghoti
Can I develop using Jetpack SDK on platforms other than windows/mac/linux?
DracoDanLT
oops
jcox
win: but if I say: firefox file://path/to/otherfile.xyz I cannot see it as html even if .xyz has been set up as text/html in mime.types
winXPuser
DracoDanLT different in what way
ghoti a second
DracoDanLT
for example the search/I'm feeling lucky buttons in google look square
the used to be rounded out on the corners, now mine are square
winXPuser
ghoti it is same platform as firefox,
DracoDanLT
im trying to figure out what changed, since i still get the rounded ones at work where im stuck on ff 3.5
winXPuser
ok hang on
ghoti
The SDK as well? Good to know - I'm using FreeBSD.
DracoDanLT
so if you guys go to google, are the buttons shaped with 90° corners, or are they rounded slightly?
winXPuser
not rounded here
i think this can be a pref
hang on i'm trying to find
ghoti
DracoDanLT: If I go to google, the buttons have "[" and "]" around them. (My X is busted - I'm using a text-based browser at the moment.)
DracoDanLT
heh
ghoti
(Action) rocks his w3m
DracoDanLT
heh, you poor thing :(
beats TWM imo :)
firefox has square buttons, IE has rounded
and firefox 3.5 at work has rounded
qdb
i have disabled other language packs, no help
winXPuser
hmmm
should work! are you sure that about:config pref has saved?
DracoDanLT
wait, it was some cookie doing the changes!
no clue why...
winXPuser
wow
I see.
Google is no logic.
rootlinuxusr
just upgraded to 10.04, and my images are now longer loading in Firefox.
winXPuser
