nedy: the values set in the event depend on if you're listening for keypress or keydown events.
nedy
dolske: I am listening ONLY to keydown events and the values are different if different keyboard layout is selected
i think it must be a strange bug
dolske
ah, hmm. doesn't sound ideal, but I'm not sure if it's supposed to act that way or not.
Sounds like something worth filing a bug on.
nedy
I tested my application that relies a lot on keyboard events (keydown) and for some time I couldn't figure out why Firefox is acting differently under Linux as opposed to Windows version
than I switched keyboard layout to US (I am otherwise using SL keyboard layout) and it worked just fine
keycodes (for keydown and keyup events) are supposed to be always the same no matter what keyboard layout is used
Ok - I will fill the bug report when bugzilla is working :)

hi, is there no WebM in standard firefox 3.7 nightly builds?
tril_
hi
I have a question, what the main difference between a plugin in firefox and a extension in chrome ?
kbrosnan
tril_: plug-ins intergrate a 3rd party program into firefox, ex. adobe reader or sun java
plug-ins use NPAPI to interact with the browser
tril_
kbrosnan hi :)
but I think the are some differences between a extension in chrome and firefox, right ?
kbrosnan the mess is, chrome calls everything extensions
but I don't know if FF makes the same
kbrosnan
tril_OFF: use the term Google Chrome, or at least a captial 'C' so that way people know you are talking about the browser and not the generic term for user interfaces
tril_OFF: Chrome can only have javascript based extesnions as i understand. Firefox allows for binary (c/c++) based extensions as well as javascript based extensions

I'm looking for a firefox extension that scrolls the screen at a customizable speed, like for reading articles. Any ideas?

request: a state to force firefox to render partially completed (downloaded) pages after N seconds have passed.
so that failed ad servers, etc, don't result in a completely invisible page... even though 99% of the page is sitting in memory.
if i'm not mistaken, IE and Chrome render pages on the fly.
(sense of speed)

Is there some way to hardcode the profiles directory so its the same name per user? Not a random name?
And is it ok to share the same profile between windows and Linux if its the same version?
mconnor
joako: you can manually create profiles
joako
mconnor, Right but for example is there a way on the system level I can just make the profile be $HOME\.firefox or something like that
mconnor
nope
joako
Why does it put a random string of letters?
mconnor
to make it harder for attackers to modify profile data

hi, I'm running 3.6.3 under Ubuntu 9.10. Flash isn't working; when I load a Flash video it plays, without sound, for exactly 6 seconds and then stops, then Firefox freezes. This started a week ago, I installed a package which fixed it, but now it's gone back to how it was.
kbrosnan
try https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/Flash#Troubleshooting
YrMaffiaGymraeg
oh excellent, thanks
kbrosnan: OK, none of that worked. *kicks it*

kbrosnan
YrMaffiaGymraeg: make sure mozilla-plugin-gnash and swfdec-mozilla are not installed. uninstall if present
YrMaffiaGymraeg
kbrosnan: neither are installed
kbrosnan
YrMaffiaGymraeg: do you have any plugins installed to ~/.mozilla/plugins?
YrMaffiaGymraeg
no such directory
kbrosnan
did you manually download flash at any time?
YrMaffiaGymraeg
yes
kbrosnan
do you have flash from ubuntu installed as well?
YrMaffiaGymraeg
months ago, I don't remember anything special I did while installing it
flash from ubuntu as in what, the free alternative?
Probably I do but I don't know off.
kbrosnan
sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree
try
YrMaffiaGymraeg
kbrosnan: still freezes after 6 seconds, same as before

is "Mozilla Default Plug-In" is a part of firefox distribution? Ver 1.0.0.15

hi everyone
i wanted to join mozilla projects
can any one help?
hamiltonian
i installed stixfonts which where released today, but the rendering of math in ff didn't change a bit :(
any ideas what i'm missing?
do i have to restart ff everytime i modify userContent.css or is it sufficient so reload a page?
kbrosnan
oh they finally finished that project, cool. you'll need to restart
but addtionally the page may have a perfered font such as arial unicode
hamiltonian
damn, i still get old symbols for single integrals. only double integrals use larger stixfonts
kbrosnan
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/CSS/@-moz-document or greasemonkey should be able to override the site perfered fonts
hamiltonian
i already use "math { $list-of-stix-fonts; }" in my userContent.css
do you know if math-rendering will get faster again in the next 3.6 release? nist's online version of their handbook of mathematical functions is barely usable with current 3.6 :(
finally
i changed all fonts to stixgeneral in preferences + disabled site specific fonts
now math looks nearly as good as tex
unfortunately stixgeneral isnt as good at displaying normal text :(
but for math: awesome :D
kbrosnan
i poked at that site on linux when someone on reddit said it was slow. was responsive for me on linux
hamiltonian
kbrosnan: have you tried any math heavy pages or only the title page?
kbrosnan: eg. http://dlmf.nist.gov/9.2#SS1.p1 takes a good 20s to render here
