is there an addon for ff (mac) that adds searching from the address bar like Chrome has? (site specific search, like typing Wikipedia, then being able to search Wikipedia straight from the address bar)
auscompgeek
keywords are builtin to Firefox :)
it's all in the Manage Search Engines dialog :)

red_alert
hi, can anyone point me to the right resource to get the mozilla project to set up a booth at our FOSS event?
auscompgeek
try somewhere at irc.mozilla.org ;)
red_alert
I was thinking of a persistent option that also reaches folks that are not in front of their keyboard right now :)
auscompgeek
usenet group?

hi
Rok_
have I found a bug in Firefox?! Look at this page in Firefox and Chrome and find "Dejavnosti", there are <select>s and I'm using selected="selected" to preselect a value... but on some <select>s it doesn't work in Firefox... The page validates and there are no crazy JS going on: http://demo.ddesign.si/domstoritev.si/registracija_podjetja/simobil?paket=zlati
wait, it started working! whatever... had to ctrl+F5
schtinky
Is there an addon development channel?
kbrosnan
on irc.mozilla.org #extdev
schtinky

hello
my mouse back- and forward keys stopped working in Firefox (Windows 7 x64), in all other apps they still work. what do you suggest to do?
CB6
Any idea as to what might cause Firefox to spike up to 30% processor usage and then back to 5% without doing anything to the browser? I'm trying to figure out how to isolate the problem
A quadcore system should not have this kind of processor usage from a browser
jordanm
adobe flash is the typical suspect
CB6
interesting
Any way of stopping adobe from spiking FF like that?
jordanm
remove flash
CB6
As a webdeveloper I can't really do that unfortunately
Ironically I haven't found this issue within IE. Does Microsoft have an open relationship with adobe developers to the extent that IE would be stable with flash and yet firefox is not?
It's driving me crazy. Is there any monitoring device within firefox to tell if it's a plugin or something?
jordanm
chrome is the only browser I know of with a proc monitor. there may be an extension for FF but no default functionality
CB6
I haven't experienced the same issues with chrome or ie so I can't isolate the issue
I noticed when I closed a few tabs it stopped spiking
There seems to be a direct correlation between the # of tabs I have open and firefox spiking. Is there a known issue with the # of tabs open?
This seems to be with both Windows 7 64bit, and XP Home 32bit
21 tabs open currently (had 3 more open). This isn't including a couple of other FF windows open with several tabs open on them
jordanm
CB6: I just opened 20 and CPU is never raising about 10% out of 400%. I opened a 21st with a flash video running and it stays at 25-50%
CB6
lol
any issues with google adwords tool page?
as far as I know it's all ajax

jordanm
don't know, it won't let me sign in with my gmail and I am not creating an account for it
CB6
jordanm I'm not running any videos currently
sivel
ok, I am running into a very strange problem with firefox and X11 forwarding. When I ssh to a box with x11 forwarding enabled (on purpose) and I want to run that remote firefox, it actually launches my local copy of firefox
I've seen a few reports of this but no solutions
for example: http://forums.devshed.com/linux-help-33/x11-forwarding-685341.html
kbrosnan
add -no-remote
and create a second profile
sivel
hm, I tried -no-remote and it actually opened on the console of the other server, although I was logged in when I tried it
strange
is there any way to remove the retarded wizard from thunderbird? i just want to enter my server info and thunderbird believing me, instead of hte wizard that wont let me do anything
thunderbird 3.1 on linux
kbrosnan
likely a pref for first run, #thunderbird on irc.mozilla.org may know more
strange
if i cancel it on first run i cant do anything either
but i'll try on that irc server thanks
i could set up my email in another email application in <1 minute
but i prefer to use thunderbird its just impossible to manually add stuff it ALWAYS wants to use the wizard
cant connect to that server
nm worked on another shell
kbrosnan
just noticed a notice from the server admins for mozilla that they are having network issues
jordanm
I am on that network now and do not seem to be having issues
kbrosnan
depends on the server you are connecting to they have at least two in different locations
strange
yeah im connected as well just that my main shell stalled on host lookup
kbrosnan
seems that their sj colo is being unhelpful
strange
people there arent very talkative though
i wonder why the developers decided to get rid of the functioning manual settings
and depend on this guessing stuff
if i can just set login/pass/port for incoming and the same for outgoing i'm golden but they decided to remove that in 3.1
kbrosnan
I don't know. I only use tb to archive my gmail in the case that the googles go down.
strange
yeah for gmail it works fine the wizard but if you host your own stuff on different ports it just fails miserably
which is a shame because i've been using thunderbird since it first came out and it keeps getting worse :(
jordanm
strange: yes, I have been asking the same question for days on there.. probably should have moved to forums long ago
strange
this new direction tehy are taking is retarded :(
jordanm
"converstation view" for mailing lists is all jacked up...
strange
jordanm: you want to manually add information as well?
jordanm
no, unrelated issue
strange
oh the lack of response on the other server gotcah
jordanm
that is fine as well, I have been not disconnected in days either
sivel
kbrosnan: thanks, that did work btw, the only thing I need to keep in mind is that I cannot be logged into the remote system at the console when specifying -no-remote, otherwise it shows up on the console
Skered
Is ftp.mozilla.org on a very slow connection or it is getting pounded right now?
kbrosnan
mozilla's primary co-lo is having major issues
Skered
That would explain it then.
Otherwise this downloadin won't finish until next month heh
kbrosnan
there will be a new version by then, sounds like a vicious circle
secleinteer
hi, does abp make bbc pages show up as blank for anyone else?
kbrosnan
sounds possible, I don't use abp. They have some forums at https://adblockplus.org/forum/
secleinteer
kbrosnan: i've been googling for a while and haven't found anything. do you know if they have a channel/
kbrosnan
i don't know, if they do irc.mozilla.org is the most likely place
s/,/
secleinteer
alright, thanks
IanN
any timescales on *.mozilla.org being up?
Aetherfox
gavin: why the heck is the whole Mozilla network down?
IanN
Aetherfox: their network provider has problems
gavin
"they're working on it"
Aetherfox
gavin: can you tell them to f***ing hurry up?
kbrosnan
i would guess that is something out of their direct control
Aetherfox
gavin: kbrosnan: [reed]: what is Mozilla's ISP?
strange
i've just been told there is no answer on there either so it doesnt make alot of difference
dolske
grr. anyone else having problems connecting to irc.mozilla.org?
[reed]: ?
ss
Yes
strange
everyone i think
dolske
I see.
ss
mpt is having issues.
You should assume it's down.
Which is why I recommended freenode for the platform meeting to beltzner.
dolske
yeah, there was a problem with the upstream provider.
ss
But he blew me off.
dolske
I'm on the planning call, sounds like others are using it ok.
strange
i dont see a reason to have own servers at all
freenode is just fine
ss
No SSL on freenode.
dolske
exactly.
ss: is sand or gravel the one in Amsterdam?
ss
gravel
dolske: gravel
sdwilsh
(Action) cannot connect to moznet at all
ss
I can't either.
I highly recommend everyone move to a freenode channel for the forseeable future.
dolske
I just added "63.245.212.23 irc.mozilla.org" to /etc/hosts and was able to connect.
sdwilsh
hehe
dolske
hrm. I connected, but I guess others can't because the channels are awfully empty.
mbrubeck
ahh, irc.mozilla.org came back
kbrosnan
the amsterdam server is still up and running, just most are going to sj/mpt
dolske
justdave was changing DNS to rollover to .nl, but maybe mpt is back up?
mbrubeck
Looks like I got in through NL.
kbrosnan
i don't know i did a host edit as well
dolske
yeah, I think DNS did it, all the recent joins are on gravel.
ionut
why my backspace button is not working in mozila (go to the previsious page using backspace) . i tried do configure it (about:config in mozila and in the browser.backspace_action tab i set it up to 1 ). is still no working
kbrosnan
i believe the setting is 0
trollboy
for some reason in FF it randomly "wraps" my <thead>'s and that screws up my column alignment
is there somethign I'm doing wrong?
Skered
There is a list of mirrors for ftp.mozilla.org right?
kbrosnan
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.backspace_action
Skered: what do you want to pull from it?
ionut
kbrosnan: tnx, i'll try
Skered
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/presentations/cpp-portability.rm
kbrosnan
i don't think that is on the rsync network
DataLore
mozilla.com is down. what gives?
kbrosnan
backbone provider has some issues
DataLore
ah. hope it gets resolved soon. i'd like an update :)
ftp.mozilla.org slow also
tessier
Anyone else here use tree style tabs extension for firefox?
The tab frame has somehow become slightly wide and overlaps the web page content frame.
So when I mouse over the tabs it gets raised on top. And when I mouse over the web content it gets raised.
Very annoying.
And I can't see how to grab the edges of each frame and resize them.
Nitrox22
DataLore, try http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ it works fine for me.
mbrubeck
trollboy: Do you have an example page that shows the problem?
trollboy
mbrubeck, nothing handy that's not behind logins, but its been a running gag for a minute, I've got large (30+) column data tables all with reporting data in them
problem is when the THEAD wraps it kills readability
mbrubeck
"Wraps"? Like, the cells in the "thead > tr" end up on multiple lines instead of a single row?
CB6
I think the flash in facebook tends to crash firefox quite a lot. My friend was saying the sound .swf was what often did it for his browser
trollboy
correct mbrubeck
I expect [heading][heading][heading] and get [heading][heading]\n[heading]
mbrubeck
CB6: If you're on Windows or Linux, you can try the Firefox 3.6.4 beta which should fix that: http://blog.mozilla.com/blog/2010/04/20/firefox-3-6-4-beta-available-for-download-and-testing/
kbrosnan
planned to be released in ~7d
CB6
I'm on windows 7 64bit
is there a beta for that?
mbrubeck
trollboy: Weird. I'd try validating the markup to see if there are mismatched tags or something, and if that doesn't find the problem then file a bug. (A reduced test-case will help identify the problem.)
kbrosnan
just the regular 32 bit build
CB6
k
if it's out in 7 days then I can wait I'd imagine. I use FF as my workhorse
DataLore
3.6.5pre isnt bad either
SirTopHat
is the youtube issue being looked into
DataLore
youtube issue?
SirTopHat
Flash crashes with YouTube
DataLore
not on mine
running 3.6.5pre
SirTopHat
I'm on 3.6.4
hm
I'll get that versio
n
DataLore
there isnt a build today, gotta pull one from yesterday
look in the nightly directory
SirTopHat
eh Ican't find it
DataLore
ftp.mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/
then look for the one from yesterday with 1.9.2 in the title
Skered
5k-10k... how did we live with dial up in the 90s?
DataLore
good question :)
dolske
bits were smaller back then.
kbrosnan
nightlys of the stable branch are sort of excessive, lots of bugging for updates for only a little gain. the beta update channel for the 1.9.2 branch seems to have a better balance
DataLore
i had dsl in 1996
kbrosnan: where is this 1.9.2 branch you talkin about? I thought ftp was best way to get it
mbrubeck
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-beta.html
DataLore
that only has 3.6.4
WePac
give me some 0days
