hi
why option "Save bacground images as" is missing in new firefox?
:/
i need it
Cheery
hi.
I'm in middle of writing a windowless scriptable NSAPI -plugin.
(writing an library that lets js script do user authentication with encryption challenges.
(and encrypt/decrypt stuff without https)
reading source code out, though your NPAPI plugin source examples are a bit ugly.
nishanth
can someone help me fix some plugin issue on firefox?
someone help with firefox plugin plz?
Cheery
nishanth: what about telling what that is?
nobody can help you if nobody knows what's up.
nishanth
ok
i need help playing an online live streaming video that uses microsoft media server plugin
helloooooooo someone alive in here?
qwd
nishanth: don't demand help. ask for it, and be patient. everyone here who helps people do it to be nice. also learn how to ask questions, you haven't explained what your problem is. basically you're saying "i need help driving my car", well what's wrong with it?
nishanth
qwd if i knew wat the problem is i would rather metion it.... for now all i know is that, something that works for someone else does not work for me

Quick couple of questions from a minefield user
A) Is there any way to revert to the old style addons manager? I'm having some difficulty finding stuff like the nightly-tester-tools force addon compatability in the new window, and B) How do I bring back the "/" for quick search function?
They seem to have both vanished on me over the past few updates :/
rjohnson19
A) Use a previous nightly before the new AOM was added, thats about it B.) Thats a known recent bug
Once you press Ctrl+F once it starts working.

nishanth
does anyone know how to install mms plugin on firefox?
bluefoxx
There's not going to be any option to revert to the old addon manager?
rjohnson19
nishanth: where is this stream that won't work? I think you'll want the WMP plugin. But you might be able to play it directly in WMP.
(Windows Media Player)
bluefoxx: not that I'm aware of. The new AOM is very unstable right now, many open bugs that will eventually be fixed.
nishanth
rjohnson19 shall i give you the link ? i am relatively new to linux and its been frustrating
rjohnson19
Oh, should have asked what OS.
bluefoxx
'Kay. Well if it works in the end, I can't complain too much. I will say that it does clash heavily against the windows classic skin that I and most people I know use though.
rjohnson19
nishanth: here are you options, I think http://www.intinor.se/mms/media_players
bluefoxx
Which is perhaps my largest complaint about most things. Stuff like the new google or wikipedia themes stick out like sore thumbs on my machine, and now firefox suddenly has overly rounded elements in it too :\
Cheery
I don't wonder why NPAPI plugins tend to be buggy, failure-prone and broken all the time anymore.
who were coding this API? Ballmer?
whoever he was, he must've been a cousin of PHP developer.
nishanth
can someone tell me how completely remove firefox and reinstall it again?
qwd
nishanth: google "uninstall firefox"
or uninstall it like you would anything else if your distro uses a package manager
nishanth
qwd i did try using synaptic but for some odd reason firefox still remains there even after removing it
qwd
and remove the hidden mozilla folder in your home directory
nishanth
qwd oh how do i do that?
qwd
view -> show hidden folders
bluefoxx
nishanth, You might need to go remove the "Mozilla" folders under %Application Data% and %Local Settings%\Application Data
(Assuming windows that is)
nishanth
qwd i removed it successfully
qwd
nishanth: search ubuntuforums or the wiki for info on how to install moonlight. not that I see why anyone would want to, especially not a gnu/linux user but to each his own
nishanth
qwd wat is moonlight?
qwd is it moonlight plugin mozzila?
qwd
oh never mind, I thought you were trying to use silverlight. don't know where I got that

nishanth
qwd do you know how to find various plugins for firefox that would work on ubuntu?
qwd
google should work
peque
hi all :)
how can I set Firefox so that it "tells" the server it uses one concrete language?
(sorry for my englis)
*english
i.e.: im using firefox in spanish, but I want HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE to return english as first language
can I do that?
thanks in advance
quizme
is there a way to identify somebody's computer? (or browser installation id) ?
peque
quizme: you can use "navigator.appName" and "navigator.appVersion" with JavaScript
dont know if that's what you are looking for... :S
quizme
peque: does that distinguish one user from another ?
peque
think I misunderstood you (im not english)
quizme
peque: basically i want something like a browser session id but specific to the person's computer
peque
that only returns the navigator version and name
quizme
peque: like a mac-address
peque: or computer serial number
peque
quizme: sorry, cant help you, I came here looking for some help too :)
quizme
peque: np thanks
peque
quizme: does the IP fits your purpose?
or must be something IN the computer
?
quizme
peque: IP addresses change too much
peque
dont know much about this, but im not sure if you could obtain anything from the computer which is connected
(appart from the IP)
azizLIGHTS
is it better to use mozilla weave or shold i put my profile into a dropbox and acess everywhere (all computers i will use are no admin computers and i can use a usb key)
is this a good saetting for if i want to put my profile onto a dropbox
browser.cache.disk.parent_directory.
mconnor
azizLIGHTS: that's just for the cache
azizLIGHTS: using weave would be likely be better, as most files can't handle multiple apps accessing them at the same time

Hello
My Firefox doesent Start sometimes on Vista. The Process is created but there is no window. Afer a reboot it works
bykte
hey, where do i get table information for the sqlite data used by FF?
Dpunkt
it doesent start in safe mode either
neither in a new profile
kbrosnan
bykte: https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Places
Dpunkt
its very annoying to Reboot for Browsing
kbrosnan
Dpunkt: does renaming firefox.exe to test.exe change anything, one way to check if something is watching for firefox.exe to startup
Dpunkt
a test.exe process is created
but there is no window
kbrosnan
have you tried uninstalling and makeing sure c:\program files\mozilla firefox\ is empty before reinstalling?
stodorovic
Hi. Any ideas please why Firefox 3.5.9 has just suddenly started crashing when I enter into a textentry box?
Crashes on google search input box, also in gmail compose box. etc...
kbrosnan
stodorovic: os?
stodorovic
kbrosnan: Linux, OpenSuse 11.2, x86_64
It was working fine earlier, but then I went to compose an email in gmail and suddenly every time i restart firefox, I get the same problem where any text input...
... causes it to crash. [i just had to take a phone call]
pity it's not a debug build - i could run it with gdb and give you a trace, maybe even submit a patch. But I suspect that I will be hit by heisenbergs.
kbrosnan
does renaming your .mozilla help any?
stodorovic
no :(
#0 0xb6737ebe in ?? () from /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.9/libxul.so
#1 0xb0143f10 in ?? ()
argh. btw I forgot what my machine is - this is i686 architecture, not x86_64 as I previously mistakenly said
another run, another crash. This time same %esp in libxul.so, but different %esp in frame 1.
Yahweh
test your ram?
stodorovic
will have to later on. cant now - working
kbrosnan
my other thought would be to check if reinstalling xulrunner helps
stodorovic
good point

Bit of a technical question: I'm dynamically changing content with AJAX requests, arrays with bits of data, etc. Part of that will change images. The Expires header from the server hosting images is +10 years.
However, very often - when changing the content around - firefox will send requests to server and be getting 304 responses. Question is: why is it sending those requests at all, and is there a way around this?
Perhaps a better summary: changing a particular image's "src" attribute between two or three different values will cause Firefox to send requests to server for image, despite image being served with expires header of +10 years time, and image being small enough to cache. 1-2K.
waheedi
now i've changed the header response from my server side and it looks to be changed on response header log in firebug, but the post request is not made
Access-Control-Allow-Orig...*
Access-Control-Allow-Meth...POST
anyone here?
fearfail
yeah hey
I installed Lightning on Thunderbird, and it mostly works, but it doesn't let you edit the todo's
You can change the category, completed status, but you cant actually type in the edit box. You type and nothing happens
what's up with this

Any news of a 64bit version of FF for windows 7 coming out?
stodorovic
recompile it?
kbrosnan
planned for Firefox 4
CB6
I don't know enough to do that
awesome
stodorovic
will firefox 4 have more features and more bugs and be slower than 3?
bykte
yes
stodorovic
:]
bykte
we intend to make FF the next bloatware
stodorovic
unless I start looking at the bugtracker :D
CB6
FF seems to have a lot of weird freezing issues on windows 7 64bit (at least for me). I've got 8GB of ram and an AMD X4 920 processor so it shouldn't hit 32% at times lol
I've run memtest and the HDD.. it's not the hardware
Is there limitations as to how many tabs you're supposed to have open inside of FF? I tend to have a lot open
stodorovic
> 2GB for firefox? blimey :S
waheedi
what is the firefox developers channel?
CB6
Isn't this it?
waheedi
ok are you one of the developers CB6
CB6
no
stodorovic
waheedi: are you one of the developers?
waheedi
nop i wish i were
stodorovic
waheedi: me too
I might download the source tonight and try doing bug triaging/fixing
waheedi
actually im kinda frustrated with CORS
kbrosnan
that is a good way to start
stodorovic
kbrosnan: it should be. though not sure if there's any kind of special setup needed for my environment. Specifically, how to make sure my source-compiled version is not interfering with the distro-packaged firefox, or my profile etc.
might have to create a new user account and then run it via sudo - hopefully that won't use my normal profile and run as the other user.
kbrosnan
fairly simple. make sure to ./firefox in the compile dir
and use a seperate profile
stodorovic
kbrosnan: is that a command line switch for selecting profiles?
waheedi
kbrosnan: then you are one of the fevelopers :)
kbrosnan
-P
waheedi
developers*
dude im trying to do CORS request
kbrosnan
qa member
waheedi
and http://hacks.mozilla.org/2009/07/cross-site-xmlhttprequest-with-cors/ says how to do that
and i've done it the exact same way
stodorovic
kbrosnan: hmm. I have noticed that if you run firefox twice, it will use the same profile. is it then the case of starting normal firefox for normal profile, and then starting devel firefox with the devel profile, and the two will not use any kind of IPC/single application singletons between them?
waheedi
the response headers have been changed but still the post request is not made
kbrosnan
stodorovic: -no-remote for the second profile
stodorovic
kbrosnan: thanks :) wrote that down on a piece of paper for later on
kbrosnan: so you do qa? neat. i should see if there is any unit testing in the source.
jpike
my firefox freezes for at least 5 seconds whenever i try to open a drop down menu or right click menu
ever since 3.6, it is so annoying
kbrosnan
there are a number of different test tools, mozmill, Mochitest, etc. https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Developing_Tests
jpike: does firefox's safe mode help any?
jpike
kbrosnan: no, no safe mode, no running in different WMs, no deleting .mozilla
kbrosnan
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
jpike
none of that helps
i've found a lot of other people complaining online about this, some fixed it by disabling ipv6 DNS
but that didn't work for me
i get an error in the console whenever i right click though..
kbrosnan
os?
pastebin it?
jpike
socket(): Address family not supported by protocol
only one line, no need
linux 2.6, xorg server 1.8
affects all window managers i've tried, kde4, awesome, fvwm2
i suppose my company will have to abandon firefox, we've been trying to solve this bug for weeks. nobody wants to enforce chrome because the extension writing capabilities are unimpressive, but we have a network of identically built machines and this right click thing is affecting all of them
stodorovic
jpike: a bot over the top, isn't it?
*bit
jpike
no, if everytime you want to open a menu you have to wait for 5 seconds..
you would probably abandon it also
it is very frustrating
and when we have 100 PCs all running it.. 100 developers working 8 hours a day..
stodorovic
jpike: well, i'd probably try to fix it. any chance you could open a bug report and also indicate as close as possible what version worked fine, and what version first started causing this slow-down?
jpike
we have tried to fix it, and i will open a bug, to go with the other 4 slow menu bugs
i can also find a hundred or so people complaining about it on the internet, some of them seem to fix it with solutions that don't work for me, and some just seem to go quiet
stodorovic
slow menus seems to suggest to me that either some algorithm is badly designed, or there's some large timeout going on (i'm not a firefox developer (yet ;) )).
maybe it's a badly configured dns server that does bad things with AA ipv6 entries?
(Action) stops guessing
jpike
i disabled IPV6 dns queries
in about:config
this was a problem for someone else who had the slow menu problem
kbrosnan
the error you quoted is not in the firefox source, looks to be a a misconfigured dns server from what i ca tell
jpike
unfortunately that solution didn't work for me
kbrosnan: already tried switching DNS servers
