it seeams that it is not possible to view the xml-source of the search plugins at http://mycroft.mozdev.org before installation. Is this really so? How could one view the source before installation?
Peng_
You could hack the URL if you wanted to, but...
kbrosnan
view-source:uri
ah but looks like the uris are a pain to construct

Is there a keyboard shortcut to open a link?
kbrosnan
ctrl + l

tomoyuki28jp
kbrosnan: doesn't work for me (on my mac)
kbrosnan: I decided to use "Hit a hit" plug in
kbrosnan
what do you mean by open link?
tomoyuki28jp
kbrosnan: open a link exists on a html page.
kbrosnan
the link needs to have focus and then press enter
tomoyuki28jp
kbrosnan: yeah, I wanna do that from a keyboard shortcut.
kbrosnan
' will open a links find bar
you then would need to press escape to exit the find bar once you have the relevant url selected and press enter
tomoyuki28jp
kbrosnan: oh yeah, that's a way.
kbrosnan: thanks a lot for your help.
I apprecaite it.

hi, is here anyone an actual dev of firefox? or just people who try to help others?
serious question
dolske
Goatee: why?
Goatee
it looks like Firefox 3.6 on a Mac is using about 1GB of memory which makes it unusable. there is a whole discussion of the firefox support forum and not a single statement from someone of mozilla. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/571175?forumId=1&comments_threshold=0&comments_parentId=571175&comments_offset=20&comments_per_page=20&thread_style=commentStyle_plain

hi, my firefox is really really slow, I try to run it with -safe-mode and it the same.
others browser (Chrome, Konqueror, Opera) run smoothly
my CPU usage is close to 100% and firefox use between 15% to 35% with ~300Mb of memory
CB6
Does anyone know what might cause firefox to jump between 3%-36% usage in firefox and crash frequently?
I have flushed my firefox cache frequently etc but can't entirely determine what's causing the instability
Noticing that FF says *32 next to it in Windows Task manager but I'm assuming there's no 64bit version for windows 7?

Question: I've more and more the need to create separate profiles for my different navigations needs. Which means that I have to start several different firefox sessions at the same time. Is there an alternate way to insolate windows in a give session ? Thanks.

Cork
nope
not for the moment at least
Garp
Cork: thanks.
Cork
its on the way, but its not posible yet
Garp
Cork: good to know.
Cork
they are working on adding so you can split tabs into its own process
that will make this farly easy
Garp
Cork: Seems that Chrome has some good idea ;)
Cork
it was in the planing for firefox long before chrome actually
it just got highter prio after :)
Garp
Cork: as you seems to know Firefox quite well, is that me or are the latest ff versions more unstable that it used to be (I'm back to old netscape 3.1 time it seems now) ?
Cork
Garp: you got crashes?
or hangs or?
Garp
Cork: quite regulary. There are pages I just cant visit
crash plain crash
Cork
you get the crash reporter?
Garp
Cork: usually not.
Cork
hmm
type about:crashes in your url bar
click the first link, and copy the url here
Garp
Cork: it says "no reports were ever sent" (rough translation)
Cork
ouch
Garp
Cork: do you want me to crash it?
Cork
not if you don't get a crash reporter, its kinda useless...
Garp: it might be from plugins, or broken fonts
or one of your extensions
Garp
Cork: t's often linked to Flash afai can infer
Cork
those three groups are 70-90% of all crashes now days
ya, look forward to ff 3.6.4, it will prevent firefox from crashing if its flash
it will let flash crash on its own instead
Garp
Cork: good!
Cork
it should be close to release btw
Garp
Another whish came true ;)
Cork
TBD :/
so they haven't desided yet...
Garp
Cork: I'll dowload it manually as soon as it is ready, if so! Instead of waiting it to come to the repositories...
ha...
Cork
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/Firefox_3.6.4#Current_Schedule
Garp: you can get beta if you like
Garp
Cork: Humm, I like stability ;)
(as much as pssible)
Cork
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/3.6.4-candidates/build3/win32/
:)
Garp
Cork: for those under windows 32 bits, right ? ;)
Cork
Garp: 3.6.x is only 32 in any system
but if you go up one step you can get it for linux or mac too
Garp
Cork: OK.
Cork: what do you mean by " 3.6.x is only 32 in any system" <- 64 bits build is not supported ?
Cork
Garp: 64 builds are not provided from mozilla
Garp
OK.
Cork
you can run 32 on 64bit systems
Garp
(why?)
Cork
but there is no 64 bit built
cause they have bugs that prevents it
64 for linux is on the way and is supported and provided for 3.7(aka. 4.0)
mac is almost there too
windows is on the way, but doesn't even build yet
so it will be here in about 6 months
as thats the expected release date for firefox 4
(and its planed to have full 64bit support)
Garp
Cork: OK. I'm pretty sure that my ubuntu firefox is 64 bits, which means it has been unofficially recompiled?
Cork
Garp: the firefox you can get from repos is built by the distro group
not by mozilla
Garp
OK.
yes, of course, because they usually repackage with a deb-build
Cork
ya
if your running ubuntu btw, you might want to look at the firefox ppa
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-daily/+archive/ppa
Garp
Cork: are there plans to control cookies distributions by iframes on web pages following facebook stuff ?
Cork
Garp: there is plans for big changes in control over js and cookies in 4
pre domain
Garp
Cork: this is good to know.
Cork
Garp
Cork: looks like firefox developpers are working well
Cork
they are speeding along well ya :)
i'm on 3.7 (minefield) my self
so i get all the goodies as they come :)
Garp
Cork: I'll just wait a bit more I think.
Cork
lol
there are some big changed landing right now that makes extensions a bit hard to use :)
(moving the addons dialog into a tab)

jayesh
in firefox 404 error redirects me to http://www.vibrator.com/fsdf.com.. I never did any settings.why is like that?
Cork
jayesh: that sounds like a malware
<@firebot> Cork: Malware removal links: http://www.safer-networking.org (use the "Hosted by Safer-Networking" mirrors!) http://www.malwarebytes.org http://www.spywareterminator.com - get help at irc://irc.freenode.net/malware-removal
jayesh
Cork: yea.. still i'm not getting the concept.. where that redirection happens?
Cork
jayesh: a rootkit or something like it is grabing net trafic before it gets to firefox
or it adds it self as a plugin or something
there is loads of ways to do it
jayesh
ok. thanks.. let me find the exact problem
Cork: plz try http://https:// from browser.. i am so confused
Cork
http://https:// ??
thats not a valid url
lol
but ya, its redirected XD
jayesh
yea..
Cork
...
wierd
jayesh
i disabled every addon.. still it does
Cork
thats not caused by an extension
...
not sure why though
jayesh
hmm
Cork
(Action) diggs in
Garp
jayesh: could be at the DNS level
jayesh
hmm
Cork
no, its not
it doesn't happen in ie or chrome
jayesh
yea
Garp
Cork: hum, then...
Cork
and i get it in a clean lab enviroment
Garp
!
Cork
so its something in firefox, not the system
(Action) starts firefox with http logging
jayesh: its from the dns
jayesh
then why not in ie?
Cork
http://https:// = http://https => http://www.https.com
that in turn redirects you to www.vibratr.com
is its the dns, and that firefox adds www. and .com by it self
jayesh
great
jesperj
Is there a command/way to make firefox stop all pages that are downloading? (like when restoring a session and they all get reloaded at once)
to just keep the tabs open but not loaded and I can reload them one by one when I want to?
jayesh
Cork: thanks
Cork
jayesh: np
Garp
Cork: you answered to jayesh ?
(I'm also interested by this quanestion)
Cork
ya
Garp
currently I'm using a proxy for that: FF is configured to use the proxy; I stop the proxy, launch FF, it stuck on each tabs. There restart the proxy and can reload tabs at will
but if there is an easier way... ;)
Cork
there might be an extension
Garp
I must admit trhat I dont like too much extensions
they are very deep in the browser, and most of then doesnt got the good peer reviewing that FF code does.
Many of them are evn not uder a free licence!
And I'm pretty sure that any of theĆ¹m could easily dump all my passwords and send them to anywhere on the net in a few lines of code.
(or do whatever else)

is there a way to configure firefox to keep temporary files in /tmp instead of the user's home directory?
i have users whose /home is nfs mounted, and firefox freezes if the nfs server is under heavy load

Hey all, how do I create a new tab (command-T) that opens to the right of the tab that I'm currently on? Can I set that behavior to be the default?
