gonzojive
Is there a javascript console I can use to develop extensions?
kbrosnan
extension developers extension
TannerF
oh
gonzojive
It seems that the error console provided is not in the appropriate javascript context
lenswipe
using /exec -o i can execute shell commands and have the output piped back to xchat into IRC
gonzojive
kbrosnan: I have firebug active, but when I type FBL I get an error in the extension developers extension javascript shell

lenswipe
handy for ASCII art
but thats why it was posting that stuff in
gonzojive
kbrosnan: essentially I cannot get into the right javascript context
Pavel
kbrosnan: So if I download the source code, edit that line, and recompile, would that do it?
kbrosnan
no, that exact line is for the menu

Hi! I need help with firefox java plugin in a unix environment
TannerF
not easy....
kjeks
I'm unable to detect java, although I'm able to detect java using Opera....
auscompgeek
kjeks: are you sure you have Java enabled on that computer?
kbrosnan
detect? as a webpage/
kjeks
auscompgeek: yes, I've checked with "about:config"
kbrosnan
about:config will not tell you if Firefox knows about java
auscompgeek
kjeks, not in about:config, about:plugins
kjeks
I manually changed the java.default_java_location_others
auscompgeek
Why did you do that?
kjeks
because java is not installed at /usr/java
auscompgeek
I don't think Java prefs in about:config work anymore but.
kjeks
this seems to be the search path
No plugins appear in about:plugins
I guess that means that java is not enabled for firefox. Are you able to help me out ?
auscompgeek
Tools > Add-ons > Plugins?
kjeks
"Default plugin"
auscompgeek
The default plugin is irrelevant.
kjeks
Whenever I visit a page that uses java, this "lego" image pops up. The only problem with that is that this automatic plugin installation installs an old java version!
auscompgeek
:S
kjeks
auscompgeek: what platform are you on=?
auscompgeek
Windows...
unfortunately...
kjeks
I see. Java installation is slightly more tricky on a unix system
auscompgeek
Indeed.
kjeks
There is a whole lot to consider in order to make this work. And in addition to this, sun didn't bother to update their guide, so filenames to correct plugins are obsolete !
kbrosnan
for firefox, the java plugin you are using needs to be the default java in the PATH. you'll need to symlink the java plugin to a valid plugin directory
kjeks
kbrosnan: Yes, I know. I've already made a symbolic link to the mozilla paht
path*
kbrosnan
which plugin?
libnpjp2.so?
kjeks
kbrosnan: I've tried both 32- and 64 bits versions of jre, the one you are referring to lies in the x86_64 package
kbrosnan
if you are using x64 firefox then you'll need the x64 plugin
kjeks
I've made a symlink to this file in /usr/lib/mozilla/firefox
I've made a symlink to this file in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
kbrosnan
the 32 bit plugin will only work if it is wrapped by nspluginwrapper
kjeks
kbrosnan: To be honest, I'm not sure whether I have 32 or 64-bits version of FF. I chose the one that came up on firefox.com
kbrosnan
that is 32 bit
Mozilla does not have a x64 release build
kjeks
Ok. I thought so. Read what you just mentioned about nspluginwrapper
As far as I know, it should be possible to have both 32 and 64 bits versions of jre installed at the same time
So I decided that this might be the easiest way out
=
?
not decided, ment to say assumed
kbrosnan: Which file am I supposed to symlink to in the 32-bits version of jre?
I downloaded jre 1.6.0_19 from www.java.com
libjavaplugin_oji,so doesn't exist in this version
That's the file all guides refer to
what about libjavaplugin_nscp.so ?
I'm quite lost here :P
kbrosnan
what files are in .../java install/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/
kjeks
kbrosnan: haha....libjavaplugin_oji.so
TannerF
auscompgeek: in that one channel! keep it going!
distatica
On linux, does the firefox command thread, or fork, or whatever it's called? I'm trying to run firefox in supervisord so that I can keep it up, but after firefox opens the process dies and is restarted by supervisor
leading to a nice ugly loop. any ideas how this could be prevented?
A simple python script with subprocess launching firefox shows the same thing.
kbrosnan
mgiht try export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.
and launch ./firefox-bin
Pavel
kbrosnan: What about this line: http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/browser/base/content/browser-sets.inc#335 ?
rryouumaa
when i log into a site, there is a "remember me" button. it is after name and password. when i press tab, it does not go there, but instead goes someplace else. is there a way to change where tab puts focus?
kbrosnan
Pavel: key_quitApplication i do believe
Pavel
kbrosnan: So line 335 will "unbind" the key?
kbrosnan: Is the identity of that key supplied by the OS?
kbrosnan: Just curious...
infid
does firefox always do a HEAD request first, then a GET request, when loading pages?
live http headers just shows it doing a get request
so i'm assuming no
but i've read it has to to check if the page is cached first so it won't waste bandwidth by doing a get request yet
TheFuzzball
Does anyone know why FF is adding 2px to the height of my input button?
It renders perfectly on other browsers but not FF, really starting to get under my skin
I have used Firebux and compared the computed style of the text input and the button input to find they have almost the same style other than the hight and width differences
Here is the site for anyone that wants to look, http://sherlock.webhop.org/fuzzyguidestwopointzero/
Anyone?
kbrosnan
well every time i've loaded your page the location and syling of the search section has changed
if your fiddling with it currently it makes it harder to poke at it
TheFuzzball
I've stopped fiddling now :)
This is stupid, there is no padding or margin, it's just inexplicably got a 2px different height...
font face and size are the same, line-height are the same, what else is there?
kbrosnan
i have them on seperate lines in linux.
TheFuzzball
This is like trying to work around an IE bug... How did FF come to this?
auscompgeek
If it happens in Opera, Safari, etc. then it wasn't us ;)
TheFuzzball
Works in Opera, Chrome, IE, doesn't work in Safari or FF, which is odd because Chrome & Safari both use the same rendering engine...
But, if it doesn't work in Safari I am complaining in the wrong channel :(
kbrosnan
does not work in chrome for me
TheFuzzball
kbrosnan: version?
kbrosnan
http://pastebin.mozilla.org/713884
TheFuzzball
I'm at Webkit version 533.4
That's probably it
solrize
lorentz = process per tab?
kbrosnan
no
solrize
ic
kbrosnan
process per plugin. for approved plugins.
solrize
ah, ok. thanks.
a lot of my firefox lockups seem to be caused by DNS being slow
auscompgeek
Use a reliable DNS then.
solrize
yeah i started writing a local dns cache but got sidetracked
Pavel
(Action) finds that the BlockSite extension blocking sites like google-analytics.com (not necessarily the ad-serving sites themselves) can prevent unnecessary lookups.
auscompgeek
Pavel: NoScript and ABP also do that nicely :)
solrize
i use adblockplus for that
does blocksite do something different?
i have a brutal adblockplus file, stops almost all that profiling crap
Pavel
(Action) doesn't use ABP --- he only blocks Flash, and pop-* ads.
Jids
hi, how do i reduce the size of the gray bar at the top of the window when i fullscreen it?
auscompgeek
There is a userChrome.css hack.
I can't remember the code however...
Jids
auscompgeek, if you remember at any point, can you send me a memo please?
kbrosnan
Jids: check userchrome.org
Jids
kbrosnan: no such site
kbrosnan
er http://userstyles.org/
Jids
kbrosnan: i'm not looking for an extension
i'd come in a while ago when Fx 3.0 came out, and someone had told me how to change it... I just don't remember how
kbrosnan
Jids: userstyles does not require an extension, it you can view the userChrome.css styles and add them manually
Jids
oh whoops, my bad
kbrosnan: so where would i add these bits of code?
kbrosnan
http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css
Jids: ^
Jids
awesome kbrosnan, thanks =)
ioriqqe
hello
