sparr
can you elaborate on how the first matters, and what you mean by the second?
kbrosnan
most of the sqlite files are locked by firefox when the profile is active
using the same profile by two seperate instances of firefox is not supported, not tested, will cause issues
sparr
that seems obvious
but we aren't talking about two separate instances of firefox, are we?
maybe i misunderstood what he is trying to do
aitiba
sparr, we are talking about one
one instance of firefox and one profile
like general case when the people use it
:-D
sparr
right, so if you only start one instance of firefox, you could have two profiles that share all of their files except extensions
subone
i think you guys may be confusing my issue with aitiba's issue?
he was just wondering where to put searchengine extensions in his mozilla profile
i wanted to know how to run 2 launchers for firefox so that one was for development and one was for normal everyday browsing
if i can only run one instance or the other is of no matter
just dont want to suffer the load times if im not developing at that moment
passingby123
i am trying to run jondofox profile on ubuntu9.10 but everytime i try to use the profile i am given an error that profile is already in use
JodaZ
is there any way to filter connections going thru proxy ?
like pass some not over proxy
EugenA
i want to limit the download speed, any addons for that?

albino
Are about:config setting stored on a per-profile basis? Or are they global across all profiles?
Cork
per profile
its a gui for prefs.js
albino
wonderful
Cork: thanks
Cork
np
it would be kinda poinless with profiles if the perfs wheren't saved in them :)
albino
I didn't know if there were some settings that were more general than others which would apply globally
now if I could figure out how to set the print margins I would be in business
Tass_
how to disable that stupid dns cache of firefox?
not its job to cache dns. there are other tools for that.
hello feature bloat.
Peng
Wait. The DNS cache is the first thing you think of when you think "feature bloat"?
Tass_
Peng, it's more like a bug than a feature here atm :>
Peng
Tass_: Just curious, why is it causing problems for you?
Tass_
that's probably why. and add the daily polemism, and you're with feature bloat.
Peng
There may be a couple settings related to it in about:config, and it may be possible to use them to disable it. I'm not sure.
Tass_
Peng, just shuffling around with domains
Peng
It shouldn't matter, since it only caches for a couple minutes.
Cork
Tass_: your using the correct ttl when you fiddle with the dns?
cause its more likly cause by dns servers then firefox
i've used firefox with domains with ttl 0 and it works just fine
Tass_
Cork, hmmm
dolske
The DNS cache has been around for years, iirc because many platforms have crappy caching.
even then, istr it only caches nxdomains, and only for a short period of time.
hanibanaa
hi all
there's an addon which puts some changable backgrounds on the space between menus and top of tabs; I've forgot the name...
Peng
dolske: It only caches NXDOMAINs? Seriously? That's...interesting.
hanibanaa: Are you thinking of Personas?
hanibanaa
@Peng: yeaaahh... thanks :)
dolske
Peng: that's what I vaguely remember, it's been a while.

Peng
dolske: Sounds rather useless.
dolske
not really, keeps dead image links and the like from endlessly stalling page loads
sorry, another neuron fired, nxdomain and no answer.
Peng
Yeah, I shouldn't have said useless, but...caching everything would be more useful.
dolske
actually, from a quick skim, it looks like it does cache normal hits too.
bigon
hi, I've a problem here on RHEL5 (with firefox 3.0.18) I have machine connected through xdmcp and some time the network trafic goes really high render the termnal almost unusable
it seems that this doesn't happens with firefox 2

tapio
What should I use to extract/compress browser.jar ?
Cork

Peng

That is, XPIs are also really ZIPs.

"Component returned failure code: 0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE) [nsIJSCID.getService]" nsresult: "0x80570016 (NS_ERROR_XPC_GS_RETURNED_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/utilityOverlay.js :: getShellService :: line 312" data: no] ?
knoppix

bigon
nobody has an idea why firefox3 is really slow on my xdmcp client and not firefox2?
gp5st
how do i get an error for an extension?
if it's misbehaving and i don't know why?
progre55
hi people! what is the new technique called in firefox that is similar to the same origin policy? it was something to do with whitelisting scripts that might be executed..
Aquaguy
Hey
progre55
hey
Aquaguy
I'm having a problem with firefox I've reinstalled it and the problem still is there it shows and types strange characters instead of latin characters
www.hoocky.com/firefox.png
that's a screen shoot
anyone knows the source of the problem and how to solve it?
kbrosnan
corrupt fonts? os?
Aquaguy
It just happens on firefox, not in chrome / safari... showing the same fonts
JodaZ
Aquaguy, you sure that you don't have the same problem in other programs and that this is a firefox issue ?
Aquaguy
yep
JodaZ
Aquaguy, chrome and safari are basically the same, both webkit based, try some other program
Aquaguy
IE crap also shows the content correctly
kbrosnan
have you made a new profile?
Aquaguy
yes, and I totally unistalled firefox and installed it again
kbrosnan
clearing out the programs file folder?
Aquaguy
and I get a strange problem in firefox too sometimes I can't restore the window if it's maximized, the restore button of the windows keeps blue and the window gets stuck. That happened to me when I was in Vista, now I'm using win 7 and I get the same problem.
www.hoocky.com/browsers.png
that's a screenshoot of different browsers showing the same page
vaix
anyone have any idea why FF will not use automatic proxy configuration under ubuntu?
JodaZ
os proxy configuration is a vague thing
vaix
JodaZ: perhaps - but shouldn't in FF definint the automatic proxy URL over-ride any OS stuff?
how do i even debug something like this?
ShawnRisk
I am trying to download a flash video from a website and everything I try is not working. I have tried at least 5 add-ons
Kingstone
hey guys, when i download a file it opens the download window saying whether you want to open the file or save it. the Open File checkbox is always auto selected, is there a way to change it?
not that it will auto save
it will still ask me
but i just won't have to change the option to save instead of open
marcus_
hi all. does firefox make use of aspell for spell checking?
Aliii
anyone know a channel for help with userscripts and greasemonkey?
figured someone in here would know :)
vaix
why would firefox think its IP address is 127.0.1.1 ? there is no IP bound to that address on the local machine... it is causing rules getting our PAC files to work
zjblabs
are moderate visual regressions in page rendering known in a5
even the about page doesn't render properly:
kbrosnan
there were some cairo issues on the trunk. patch has been backed out.

Anyone know of any theme or styles that can make firefox tabs look like these miranda tabs? http://imgur.com/sEE8q.png
Pavel
Hello. Like many people, I want to disable the CTRL-Q shortcut for exiting Firefox (since it's easy to hit by accident when closing a tab). I've looked and looked, and the closest thing to a solution is keyconfig, an extension that is not hosted on addons.mozilla.org and might not even work for the latest versions; other than that, there is a bug report requesting keyboard customizing functionality that has been open since 2003. S
o, is there a way to disable a shortcut --- perhaps by editing one of the XUL files in the installation?
kbrosnan
Pavel: not trivial afik
Pavel
kbrosnan: Well, surely there is, somewhere in a FF installation, a XUL or JS file for the appropriate locale and keyboard layout, which has a line that associates CTRL-Q with quitting. If that line is deleted, the association vanishes.
kbrosnan: Or, is this not the case?
kbrosnan
i don't think that is the case. however feel free to extract .jar files to check
it is defined in code at http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/browser/base/content/browser-menubar.inc#116

i told firefox not to allow a website to get my geolocation and told it to remember that setting for the site, is there a way to undo this?
xiven
Why does my download disappear when I tell firefox to save file, the dialog disappears and nothing more happens with the download
kbrosnan
in private browsing mode or have firefox set to never remember history or have custom settings for history and have remember download history unchecked
xiven
What????
lenswipe
hey guys
im using firefox, but i cant watch youtube videos
it just shows loading and loading and loading and loading on the flashplayer
but nothing actually happens
nothing *is* actually loading
kbrosnan
os?
lenswipe
centos
its just suddenly started doing this
some videos load some dont
mostly its videos on the 4oDEntertainment channel
no error message
just the everlasting loading thing going round
kbrosnan
i can't see any of their videos because i'm in the us
lenswipe
yeah
im in the UK though
i can see some of their videos actually
like the one on the homepage
but most of them i just get an everlasting loading thing
kbrosnan
have the most recent version of flash? http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
10.0.0.45.2?
lenswipe
lemme check
no i dont
do i have to uninstall other versions before i update?
or can i just go ahead and install the update?
kbrosnan
would be best
different versions of flash being present tends to cause issues
lenswipe
ok
doesnt flash uninstall previous versions?
kbrosnan
not normally on linux
lenswipe
*sigh*
imagine that
i cant download flash player
it comes up in firefox as a download saying 0bytes/sec unknown time remaining
kbrosnan
wget http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/flash-plugin-10.0.45.2-release.i386.rpm
assuming you want the rpm for centos
lenswipe
